I live off grid in Denali Alaska. When I go into the bush, I carry in my ruck or my quad a Mora, a Cold Steel O1 Tailmaster, A Cold steel Kukri, and a Leatherman Surge. If Im riding my Quad, which I often am, because im old.. ,i carry a council axe and a bow saw. Up here, i use what's proven itself to me.. OH I also never leave home without my 4 max scout folder. 1. Swiss Army RANGER 57 M GRIP: for fine work, game processing, and tools for scavenging. 2. Leatherman Wave with bit kit: for repairs and scavenging of items I find. 3. Cold Steel Tai Pan: for my defensive blade, I like the 13” dagger with wide enough bellies that it also slashes well 4. Gerber Strong Arm: for heavy-ish duty bushcraft and general knife tasks. As a fellow knife nut, this was a hard choice. I would have liked to have a small hatchet or kukuri. However, in a real SHTF situation, having tools that can do repairs, open cans, have awls, and more just seems to me to be a higher priority.

I was thinking a similar list. But I'm too connected to the land to bug out, so I'll have all of them till the end. But if I were younger, I have my 35 year old Buck almost 6" blade full tang and rubberized grip, a pound and a half camp ax on a slightly shorter than typical handle, my 8" fillet knife, a 28" spade with solid wood to a D handle handle and a diamond 325 grit/1200 grit Sharpal to maintain them. But I would deeply miss my pocket knives, my Schrade kukri, my KABAR, my silky 7" medium tooth, my boning knife, my high carbon chef knife, and my favorite wave serration steak knives, my double edge razor, the first aid shears, the S&W throwing knives and hatchets, the 16" chain saw, the roofing hatchet, the two utility knives, about 50 disposable utility knife blades, the two cheap WalMart machetes (gifts), oh, and the wood chipper that I just used on 4 dozen corn cobs to add to the compost.

I have a Mora companion, but I'd rather take my old school Gerber in place of the Mora, it has a blade similar to the Mora and a woodland camo handle, so that's 1 2. For defensive tactics I'd take Gerber CFB tanto (as seen in Olympus has fallen used by Gerard Butler) 3. My Becker BK7 or my esee 4 for bush/fire-craft 4. My coldsteel true flight. That's for knives most will know. Now for my normal carry 1.my leatherman surge black 2.my tanto w/red handle (my design) 3. My large recurve with serrations (Also my design) 4.my coldsteel kukri machete

My picks: 1. Big chopper - either the Ontario SP-53 Bolo machete or the SP-8 Survival machete. Ten inches long, 6mm thick, strong, heavy saber grind. Chopping, wood splitting, some carving. Tough 5160 (SP-53) or 1075 (SP-8). Nearly a hatchet. The SP-8 has a rectangular profile and a square chisel design at the tip, which may have some advantages on shelter building projects. 2. Large knife, but mid-weight with some fine abilities. Cold Steel Drop Forged Survivalist. 8 inches long, 6mm thick, but full flat ground. Well balanced and nimble for its size. Nice hard 52100 ball bearing steel, but still rather tough. Chopping, slicing, shelter building. It has a bowie profile, so it also makes a great fighting knife. 3. Medium-large bushcraft knife for larger tasks such as shelter building. Terava Jaakaripuukko 140. 5.5 inch blade at 4.2mm thick with a comfortable handle for lots of hard work. 80crv2 for easy maintenance and good durability. Scandi grind. 4. Fine carving and notching bushcraft knife. Mora Clipper. Same specs as the standard carbon steel Companion, but with a slightly more comfortable and slip resistant handle.

I agree with the Mora. Since I do not have a fixed blade, I’d probably carry the Cold Steel Voyager. For wood, I’ve always used a Sven saw for backpacking and I know it will keep me warm. Ive always carried bear mace, a loud whistle, and a tiny air horn. Just because it’s sharper than a razor and I’ve used it to cut bandages, vines, and most any material, I’d feel lost without the Milwaukee spring assisted with the serration.

Start it off with my Leatherman Wave+ and my White River Ursus 45 in 3V, the two knives I EDC anyways. Finish it with the pair of CRKT blades on my A-to-B Bag and plate carrier, a Kangee T-hawk and a Sangrador, respectively. The Leatherman has small blades for finer tasks, a small saw to effeciently harvest small tinder, and a small file. It really comes in handy for all sorts of basic everyday menial cutting chores. The Ursus 45 in 3V is an ergonomic and indestructible utility knife that could serve for defense, or about anything else, from harvesting game to shelter construction. I could use it as an e-tool or pry bar if I had to. In the forested Rocky Mountains, a small axe or tomahawk is an indispensable piece of kit. The Kangee has done a lot of stuff for me; wood processing, breaching, harvesting game. When you've seen how easily it effortlessly takes apart a deer, you understand the terrifying implications with regard to its use as a weapon...truly devastating. Then the Sangrador, a small double-edged dagger is what I feel is the ultimate fighting knife. It is sharp all over, lightening fast and responsive. Apltly named, sangrador translates from Latin for bleeder. I think these four covers all the bases with some overlap, and my drawer allows me to outfit my friends and family as well. It would be hard to leave some, like my Tops Longhorn Bowie and HOG 4.5 behind, but knowing my wife and kids have good cutting tools on them means I don't really have to.

As some one who has over 100 knives, plus a collection of Tomahawks and Axes, swords and machete's. Trying to pick just four. Not easy. But let me start by saying, I do not drive, and I need some special gear to help me through the day. So I have a EDC bag that goes with me every time I lever the house. In that bag I have a Swiss Army Deluxe Tinker knife, a old time Gerber Multi Pliers, with full size jaws and one hand open-able, and the newest addition to the bag a Cold Steel Voyager Drop Point folding knife, with four inch blade. These are always with me. So I will not could them. As for the four. 1. Mora Heavy Duty Companion. Great Blade. 2. Condor Tool and knife, Hudson Bay knife, the big one. 3. Buck 119 Special 4. Condor Tool and knife, Golok Machete. For wood processing and self defense. And of course my Work Sharp Guided Field Sharpener. Got to keep them blades sharp. Now of course I will be a wise guy and add my Nordland type C viking axe, haa a great blade and a hammer poll. And my Stanley Folding Pocket saw, with a selection of blades. So there you go. I think I would also have a firearm with me. But that's a story for another day :)

Sometimes I'll change out the ZT for my Buck 110 Folder, depends on where I'm going. I've had family members sneer & laugh at me for carrying those 3 items on me all the time.....until 1 of those items ends up being needed by said family members. Then I let them know how unprepared they are. ALL my friends know I carry these items. Even in a suit & tie, I've got those 3 items on me. Better to have it & not need it than need it & not have it.

1) Companion: Vosteed Nightshade 2) Tactical: Bark River North Country 2 fixed blade 3) Bushcraft: Tora Blades Havildar Khukuri 4) Big Blade: TFW Ginunting The Vosteed Nightshade is a folder I have used for everything: Household chores, Cooking, opening boxes, precision cuts and detail cutting, etc. The slanted blade really helps take strain off my wrist when I gotta make a lot of cuts in one sitting. My Bark River North Country 2 comes with a sheath I can carry on my belt. I like appendix carrying since its out of the way and can be hidden well under a jacket. My Tora Blades Havildar Khukuri is the one I like the feel of most. I love khukuris and have several in my collection. Tora makes some of the best ones that are historical reproductions. The stick tang construction makes the blade more top heavy and less strenuous to both swing and carry. And it can be used to fight in s pinch. The TFW Ginunting is a Filipino blade. Its machete length, lightweight and slender. It can be used to slice through vines and light brush but excels more in combat situations where the forward curve at the tip causes slashes to stab into a target and also "rebound" faster for a second swing. And the top 1/3 of the back edge is sharpened so it can do reverse cuts but also being blunt at the back end of the spine allows me to brace and block with my blade if needed.

Thanks for the video. I grew up in East Tennessee. I was surrounded by the easter deciduous forests similar to where you are. I would pick one set of blades for that scenario. I lived in Oklahoma City for six years. I lived in southern Louisiana for over ten years. I've now been in Wyoming for over ten years. I've lived other places for shorter periods of time. I lean towards a different set of choices for each location. Much would also depend on whether I could carry a true axe or a saw for processing wood. Either of those would be better than any kind of "blade" in a survival situation. Because I live where there isn't a tree within a mile of my house in any direction, I don't currently own a good axe or even a good saw. Much would also depend on what other weapons I could carry for self-defense and whether I lived in a place where I thought I would need to fight my way out of my location. For instance, I lived in western Houston for a little over two years. If things went insane at that time and I had to get out of the city but didn't have access to firearms, I'd have to choose blades that would be primarily fighting blades. I have a short sword that has "Cobra" stenciled on the blade. I think Windlass made this series of modern fighting swords. I'd probably pick this sword, pick a tomahawk by a company that I refuse to acknowledge any longer, and pick a push dagger from that same company. None of these would really be top choices for other situations, but I would take them in hopes that they would give me the best chance to fight. My fourth would then be a bushcraft knife. On the other hand, I wouldn't take the sword or the tomahawk if I had access to firearms and ammunition for self-defense. There's no point in using a short sword when I have the option of shooting an attacker. I would still carry the push dagger in case someone got close to me by surprise and I couldn't draw a gun in time. I currently live in a very unpopulated part of Wyoming. If I had to go somewhere, I'd have a reasonable chance of not being surprised by someone getting close. Under those conditions, the push dagger doesn't seem as important. Survival would depend on getting to some place with trees, but I'm not sure where I would go or what trees I would find. I don't have a real saw right now. I think I have a Harbor Freight version of one of those Asian trimming saws. I'm going to assume that the saw would cover many of my wood processing jobs and not count against my total. 1. machete - I have two old machetes that I've used quite a bit when I was younger. I'm not sure which one I'd take, but I feel confident processing wood with them. I'd still hope to use the saw for most wood processing, but a machete is still a great tool for building shelter and can be pressed into service as a weapon. 2. kukri - I have a couple of kukri. I'm not sure which I'd rather take. I'd take one. A kukri would be a good backup for wood processing, would be effective for self-defense, and could probably be used for hunting. 3. bushcraft knife - I have a Gerber of some kind that would probably be my first choice. 4. bushcraft knife - I would probably take my other bushcraft knife from the company that I don't like to name. Maybe I would take a smaller kukri instead.

All-purpose fixed: Jeff White French trade knife in 1095. Perfect design, ancestral value, convex grind, 90° spine, 6 inches yet light blade. 3. G. Bruks Small Forest axe. Wood processor that is light, packable and capable. Can also kick ass. 4. Beater : Mora Bushcraft knife. Gotta have a scandi and this one has the firestarter/sharpener multisheath and is a dream to use. If I can cheat a bit I would add an Opinel no9 as a kitchen knife.

(Could even dual-wield with the SCHF45 since I have martial arts training) 4-lastly, Smith & Wesson CKG21BTS Extreme Ops G10 Folder, one of the best folders I have ever had, good for fine cutting or combat, and has sentimental value since it was a gift from my dad.

I carry it in a Rob Evans (from Wales, UK) leather dangler sheath. 2. Victorinox Venture Pro + kit system (updated from). This is the main bushcrafting tool. 3. Cold steel SRK (CPM 3v, sabre grind) belt knife. General work. 4. Victorinox Ranger Grip 79 folder. I confess I'd probably slip in a little V'nox paring knife and hope no-one notices! ;-) Cheers mate!

1 - SAK RangerGrip 78 2 - Silky Saw Gomboy 210 3 - ESEE Gibson Axe 4 - ESEE 4HM The saw and axe will get shelter building and fire prep done, along with making it far quicker to build camp items than a big knife would (not to mention save your blades for actual cutting/slicing/carving tasks). While you're not going to be chopping down trees or splitting logs with the Gibson axe, for all around camp use it's a great tool and doesn't take up much room compared to a mid size or full size axe. Once I get a Lost Trail 5 by Schwarz knives, I'd swap that with the ESEE 4HM

I’d have to say for a big blade that was used strictly for defending myself I’d have to go with my 1917 frontier Bowie from cold steel. It’s kinda heavy but joex did a test on it and it’s pretty tough. And had a 10 inch blade. That would be my side strap in questionable scenarios. You have me wanting a Gerber strong arm to add to my collection. My seal pup has been paired with my black talon 2 for my current edc right now

1. Vic Ranger Grip 55 or 78 on belt 2. Gerber Strongarm for bushcraft and defense 3. Silky Pocketboy 340-13 4. Skrama 240 I would take 5 Items. Backup Cold Steel SR1 Lite on belt. So I have a multitool with a decent knife size for daily tasks, food prep. and a sturdy folding knife for bushcrafting always on me without generating too much attention.

Cold steel gladius machete with edge modified by Baryonx knives & tools. That is they thin the edge, making them quite a bit more cutting power. Machete Bowie, also by cold steel, also Baryonx modified. In this case, they also square up the spine for striking flint. EF 141. After removing the odd belt clip thing, and wrapping the grip slightly with baseball bat tape, it is a near perfect EDC for me. I also thinly wrapped the scabbard, and it rides close to my waist in almost any position without failing. I haven’t had to rewrap in several months. A pair of substantial throwing stars or bo shuriken, as opposed to throwing any of the others. (Someone should craft a system for this). I’m counting the pair as one.😮 And, whatever finer delicate cutting tasks folding or not, various blades, I can’t see counting them at all😎 It’s always time to break the rules.

For the shuriken look at RMJ Forge.
@peterwilson12956 ай бұрын
@@bernardbarr2354 Ya, thanks $100+ for one? Tho it does look quality, the true spirit of Shuriken has been dulled. I’ll (practice distance) and make effective strikes with the cheapies. Which in a few cases, are very good quality anyway. I have used, and successfully cut nail spikes to various lengths and points. My target set ups emphasize from the groin passing the abdomen, to the sternum > manubrium (above the sternum) throat, mouth, eyes. I have some older “on target” 10” which penetrate very deeply, and I am consistent with. Pretty certain a direct sternum hit, would be severely distracting, as well as the groin. These blades are very thin. Thx for the input.

I like your choices. It's very similar to what i would grab if i had to grab 4 "End of the owrld as we know it" blades, though I'd have a 5th as i never go anywhere without a folder (99% of the time a CS Recon 1, Voyager or 4Max/Scout) Well, technically 6 as i always have a Leatherman on my belt as well 😂 I do appreciate that you added the Strongarm. That thing is bomb proof. I've clawed ipen a car door with that thing to extract a crash victim. My 4: 1) Slicy - Mora Bushcraft Black. It's as slicy as any other Mora but has a ferro rod attached. 2) Tactical - My Strongarm 3) Cold Steel GI Tanto. That thing is nearly as indestructible as the Strongarm 4) Big knife, chopper - Condor Heavy Duty Kukri
Got a Galdius also. The scare factor alone is worth the pick.

Jaakaaripukka 110 (similar design and purpose as a Mora, a little thicker than the Companion and not stainless, but the same basic 1000 year old design.) Spartan-Harsey Difensa (latest in Magnacut, so stainless with a good amount of toughness). Terrava Skrama 240 OR a ESEE/Expat Knives Kukhri APOC Yataghan (17 inch blade, crosses into short sword. Good for fighting and for cutting through vines and brush.) If I could cheat I'd add a hatchet or it would replace the Yatagan or the Skrama (or Kukhri). Tied for second choice for the mid length, 5-7 inch category would be an APOC Wayward Camper or Cold Steel AK in S3V because both are insanely tough. I would miss my Toor Mutant for a defensive knife and my old Benchmade 710 for general purpose light cutting. And of course the Swiss Army knife and Gerber multitool.

The first thing I would grab would be something that could excel at multiple tasks. Which would be my Zombie Tools Scyllis. Styled after a Persian fighting knife. But nearly a 1/4” thick of well heat treated 5160 spring steel. Can easily shrug off batoning and chopping. But could easily transition to a fighting knife. Next I would take my ESEE 4 for smaller hard use tasks and game processing. Third I would take my Kobalt folding saw with interchangeable blades for metal, wood and plastic. And lastly probably a folder. Which, as much as I love all my fancy folding knives, would probably be my Ontario RAT-1. Until I get a Cold Steel AD-10 anyways haha
Glock 81, spyderco para 2 in m390, cheap victorinox chef knife for cooking, my old okc raider bowie and my cold steel 2 handed slant tip machete. Im happy with those

Your Apocalypse Grid Down, Bug Out on Foot, Camp multiple nights, Harvest Game, Process Wood, Defend yourself scenario is tough. 4 Blades must provide a wide range of capabilities without weighing you down, a Tall Order! 1.Gerber Down Range Axe/Hammer/Pry Bar-for rough brute work. 2.Bidor Parang-for deep in the woods work. 3.Leatherman Surge Multi Tool-for transitional, versatile and delicate work. 4.BG Survival Knife with Fire Steel, Integrated Sharpener, & Whistle-for if I could only have one.
@leojoseph63856 ай бұрын
Thanks for the fast Heart. Item 1 would be sacrificed to keep a Bug Out Bag Kit with 70 ounces of Water to 20 lbs. If there is a prepared, and genuine Bug Out Location waiting for you, then personal Security/Safety, Water and Speed are the priorities enroute to the BOL. Security would be augmented by a 9mm CCW with a Suppressor, and also a High Lumens Flashlight with UVC light for Non-Lethal options. Spare Wool blend socks, Silk-weight thermals, Wool watch cap, Swagman Poncho, Small FAK, and 2 large Lawn Bags would minimally round out the Safety portion. 70 ounces gets you 4 days max in such a stressful scenario. Therefore a couple of Straw Filters, a Titanium Grayl Filter, in addition to a Small Water Bladder and primitive filtering will be essential. Speed will be drastically improved if the route is reconned and well practiced during day and night travel. Day/Night Land Navigation with or without a Map & Compass is a must, otherwise you’re an easy victim when you’re being hunted. Perhaps these parameters could be another video!

Lots of great comments and interesting choices. If the knife/tool limit was 5 vs 4, most of these suggested kits would be very complete if just a Mora Companion was added. Very light weight, doesn't take up much space, competent with many common knife tasks. To me, there is no downside with adding a Mora/ I would also carry my Schrade LB7 that I have used for over 50 years.

Going by the knives in my collection, I’m taking: 1) My Japanese short sword for fighting and defense. 2) My Biohazard brand Kukri machete for large scale bushcraft and combat. 3) Cold Steel SRK for skinning and butchering wild game, plus minor bushcraft. 4) My Ozark Trail folding pocket knife for small fine tasks. I have more knives in my collection, but these are the for main ones I’m picking. Edit: I chose to replace my Ozark Trail multi-tool with the Cold Steel SRK because it’s an actual knife. I’m still keeping my Ozark Trail multi-tool for general survival purposes though.

I have three very useful. A traditional kukri 5160 steel. The condor bushcraft parang and the Ralph Martindale #2 Machete. You can solve anything with this equipment. Saludos Amigo

I would probably need more than 20 of these boxes to store my knives. I fully agree that first Rambo knife and the Tracker are worthless movie props. Also the idea that you are now gonna live and survive in the woods is pretty far fetched. It's most likely that you stay in the house as long as you can and if you have to leave stay in the town or village and find some abandoned building or structure for shelter. I also wonder why my tool(knife) set would suddenly change in case of an apocalyps compared to bushcraft, outdoor, survival, camping, backpacking? So the list would be something like this: - A pretty simple SAK in my pocket attached with a lanyard to my belt, for instance the Pioneer as my last resort and tool. - A multitool and I gravitate towards a Leatherman for instance the Rebar. - A small task and foodprep fixed blade knife for instance the Mora 546 or Companion (in stainless) or on the higher end the Fallkniven R2 Scout in Elmax. - A lightweight machete with a max blade lenght of 30 cm (12 inch) so it fits inside my backpack for instance an Tramontina Latin machete.
