Dude you’re getting so good! Haha the pink is INTENSE. I wanna see a video explaining how you wrap the rails and finish them?

Oooh good idea, got some pro tips taking to John John’s glasser, Chris Culpin, absolute legend. Shared some golden nugget tips, ought to make a video on that

Oi mate, I have just bought an old board to remodel for practice purposes. I love your videos and they already have helped me a lot. I just need to figure the inch part since we don’t use inch. Could you also let me know which oil with the buffing pad you use for the finish? I can’t find the video anymore where you once told which one you use😅😊 thanks already. Have a good one!

Hey that’s super exciting Chrisy, I’m always in favor of fixing up and old board! Glad I could help out and share the stoke! I use this marine wax, I really like finishing with it after sanding to 300 grit amzn.to/43gOEvZ

Sick man! did you use poly or epoxy? how long did dry the paint before laminating? cheers
@JDubHannah
@JDubHannah 2 жыл бұрын
We glassed this one with poly, and the wait time before laminating really depends on how thick you air brushed the board. A really good light air brush is totally dry in 30 min or so, this one we did a bunch of layers on to really get it neon pink, so I let it air dry for at least an hour or two to make sure it was totally dry! Hope this helps!!

Great work like always!! On your next video, could you show and talk about your lamination rack and how you calculate the thickness of your tail and nose. Thanks a lot!

Guess what hahahha, literally filming a vid on my glassing table right now! Probably finish it up and have it posted by this weekend! Regarding tail and nose, are you asking about thickness or rocker?!

@@JDubHannah .. great just on time for your new release!! Yes, thickness for tail and nose.

just posted Glassing stand vid! Regarding nose and tail thickness it’s more of a feel / personal preference. On fish boards I shape them for typically surfing smaller less powerful surf, to match less powerful surf like my tails a little thicker keeping more float right under my feet. For more high performance boards meant for more powerful surf I thin out my tails allowing them to sit lower in the water for more control and I’m not really worried about generating much lift, depending on how powerful the waves are somewhere around 3/4th inch is a pretty happy spot for me. I use surf calipers to measure the thickness! kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6O0qXmAe7KWl6M.

Hey man, been watching quite a bit and learning from ya, great vids. One question though.. what's the consistency of paint you are shooting for out of the HVLP? Been trying to find mixing ratios for the Nova paints I have (which is fairly thick but can only find suggestions for an airbrush
@JDubHannah
@JDubHannah 6 күн бұрын
Man it’s hard, I don’t have any hard ratios I recommend, I tweak and dial in each paint mix every single time. You can make it surprisingly more liquid than you would think. I think a good rule of thumb is to target a viscosity similar to light runny agave syrup! That or even slightly more runny! Hope this helps

@JDubHannah it does for sure. I know pressure plays a part as well. I think around 10psi is typically a good starting point?is that about what you run? I've heard a comparison of melted milkshake too.

Heck yes, such a fun sport chasing waves and spending time in the ocean, and seriously board building is the flip side of the coin, the yin and Yang, doing one makes you enjoy the other even more, they play off each other. No sir, read some books on shaping theory, then spent a lot of time getting tips and advice from guys in the industry and slowly taught myself! Part of the barrier to entry is just the basic knowledge of tools and design etc… so in my earlier vids I try to publicize that knowledge to help out other people who are interested and want to get into it!

The second layer of fiberglass cloth threads should be ideally 45 degrees offset from the one on top or under, however I did one lamination at 30 degrees it was almost as strong as 45 degrees

What board shape is that and what are the dimensions because that board is sick
@JDubHannah
@JDubHannah 2 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks man! It’s my own custom shape! 5’9 x 21 x 2 7/8, she is an absolute hound in small to chest high Cali surf. 37 liters for paddle power with a wide planing surface to capitalize on weak to medium power waves. She rips! To wide and too much volume for anything very hollow/steep and powerful but made not made for that🙌👍

How much would it cost for u to make one
@JDubHannah
@JDubHannah 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the ask, but unfortunately I’m pretty much maxed out through till summer. I charge 500-700 bucks a board depending on what a person wants, air brushing, resin tint, heavy duty glassing job etc..
