The children providing the background noise was wonderful to hear. Even in large neighborhoods you don't hear kids playing and having fun anymore. They were able to forget at least for a couple of hours all the problems that were going on around them. No phones or internet a simpler time. Just a chance to be a kid.

I grew up in NC and call it home. One day I hope to live there again. I am 56 and live in Oklahoma now. The only thing keeping me here is my 94 year old dad. I cook all his meals. He still lives alone in the house I was raised in after moving here. My mom passed 5 years ago and my dad misses the H out of her. I so wish I could donate but I don't have a job and have not been able to find one. I am living off what my dad pays me to cook and all that goes to my bills. One day I will be back on the mountains in NC. Praying for you all!

I have been following...... I appreciate the fact that these videos aren't about the government/political. I PERSONALLY am of the opinion that the community knows their needs better than ANY "official" (so to speak). It's ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL that community members are coming together to help each other. Not saying that outside help isn't welcome/wanted, the community can help fill those unknown gaps and communicate that information to ANYONE that is trying to help. God Bless you all!

Flip side of that, I'm seeing other channel comments where people expect ALL the work to be donated. Not reasonable. These crews have to eat. Fuel and transportation has to be paid for. So, sure, now and then, charity or a break on pricing. But until someone is willing to do that work themselves, don't judge someone for charging a fair price for the work performed. The reality on the ground is that this work is going to be ongoing for weeks, and for many, it's an opportunity to keep their people employed with winter coming on. Like I said, don't judge unless you're willing to do this backbreaking work yourself.
@Brifromscratch3 ай бұрын
No judgement here. We feel like everyone needs to do what they need to do.

I'm also blown away by folks that live there and outside observers that are saying negative things about government help. It seems that they expect that help to be everywhere all the time. This is a recovery job that is of epic proportions, it will be ongoing for years. The process of evaluating what needs to be done, and funding for it is always a tangle of red tape, but it will get done. The community helpers are the bridge to get there. They are able to do what is immediately necessary. My heart has broken over the misinformation. We can be better.

I live on Rush Creek Road and I have been working with Gabe and Thomas. They were the first ones to meet us after we spent 6 days on our small backhoe working our way out. They were a pleasure to work with. There’s still so much work to do. But we are getting there. For perspective, it would cost us around $80k to actually make our road accessible by emergency vehicles. 50+ loads of gravel and repairing multiple mudslides. We are working at it every day while also trying to go back to work to afford it all. I am the volunteer president of the HOA but I might resign in November 🤪❤
