My favorite fish is fresh salmon. I bake it with butter and Old Bay Seasoning which is popular in the US. It is healthy and doesn't take long to prepare. Normally, I have a baked potato and a salad with it.

We made this for the first time on Pi day, 2023. More expensive for us at $1.78 USD per serving (1.66 Euros) This is just a tad over our usual meal but we really enjoyed it. I used tilapia which is the cheapest frozen white fish I could get at Aldi. We were wary we’d like it but we love it!

Hello Jane, we have never had fish pie in our family, or have not even heard of “fish pie” in our area of Canada. That surprises me. We live on the eastern coast of Canada and we do eat fish at least once a week or more often. I’m glad I watched your version of “fish pie” and we will be making it very soon. Combined with the green beans, it looked delicious. We like other forms of meat pie, ground beef, chicken and turkey. These are not usually made with parsley, but with a savoury gravy base. We do like all of the ingredients so we will be trying this dish very soon. I already had frozen fish on the grocery list for this week. Thank you for teaching a Nova Scotian about “Fish Pie”.

What a good deal you get for fish there! Over here one portion of pollock is equivalent to €1.04. Even so we try and have white fish once a week and oily fish once a week. I usually put veg in my fish pie but I'm going to try it your way with the veg on the side. It's a good way of keeping your options open for what veg you have with the main eh? 😋 thanks for the inspo

I ofthen use frozen fish in meals, canned in salades, fishpie is one of my favorite... . As a treat I buy fresh from a fishmonger on the local market. withingfilet for example. €2,50 of fish feeds two very well "fish chips" whitout gluten and lactose . Clean and dry the fish, put some salt to the taste on the meat side. Leave it for 5-10 min. Use a tbl spoon of flour (rice) and a tbl spoon of slightly grated semolina in a morter. coat the fish lightly in the mix and fry in little oil med - hot about 2 min each side. I ask for the bones to make fishstock. And to us its date night at home. Feels like having restaurant dinner, I bake some chips in the airfryer and serve veggies on the side, light a candle or set the table outside. And enjoy

We have some widowers in our area, who are keen fishermen. They get me to take up their trousers, sew on buttons or do a bit of mending. I get paid in fresh fish. We like our fish lightly pan fried in a small amount of butter and served with salad, picked straight from our garden. The limes we squeeze over the fish are from our tree here.

Thank you for all your info on cooking for two. I came from a large family and I love too cook. I only have three kinds and five grandkids but I feed other kids in our neighborhood that don’t have much food. And yes here in the South part of the U.S. A. We fish a lot. But we love catfish . to me it’s the best. We have two different cat fish here the yellow and the blue . I don’t like the blue they’re a strong smelling and strong fishy taste. But the yellow is just the best one to fry and eat. But when fishing we eat whatever we get on the line.

I love fish pie. When I was a student a friend made a fish pie and asked us to guess what was in it. We all failed to guess. It was a tin of baked beans and a tin of sardines, mashed together and topped with mashed potato. It became a regular favourite with my children growing up. 2 tons of each for a family of 4. If we had company, I often made it, serving it with fresh greens, and nobody ever guessed what it was made from. Adding a dash of Tabasco sauce (or homemade chilli sauce) brings a nice change. 🌺🥦😊

Hi Jane, a video I would love to see is one on the reasons for avoiding food waste. Now, those reasons are obvious to some of us, but many of us live with one or more people who don't like leftovers, won't eat the crusts on bread and so on. It drives me nuts as I am then responsible for eating up everything! Some people say it makes them feel poor if they have to eat the same thing two or three days running. As the main cook, I'm overjoyed if I get a night off cooking! My parents and grandparents were not poor by any stretch but absolutely NO food was wasted, ever. No doubt this was due to the times they grew up in, and I'm lucky to have had their example growing up. One of the food wasters in my family is exceptional at other forms of frugality including use of power, up-cycling, making things last and so on. I am just asking for your help because often information is better received from someone outside the family ;-) PS we both love the mid-week money chats and look forward to them.xx
@littlesquirrel50073 жыл бұрын
I personally avoid food waste by making half a recipe so there are few if any leftovers......as I am one who hates eating the same thing again
@Frugal-Sue3 жыл бұрын
I sometimes freeze leftovers and then what take it out I create something different with it. For example, small amounts of left over ragu/ bolognese can be put in tortilla wraps, rolled up, covered in cheese and baked. Or cover with cheese sauce Or turn the ragu into a chilli and serve with rice or tortilla chips made from wraps. No one realises then that it's leftovers

Absolutely love fish pie, one of our favourites. Following your advice I have made the swap to frozen fish. Another fish dish we like is fish in tomato: soften onions (red are good) and garlic, then simmer passata/whizzed up tinned tomatoes and then add the fish when the sauce is thickened. I then throw in loads of basil, which I grow in the kitchen. We have with rice, but recently tried orzo, which is cheap and cooks quickly and can be added into the sauce.

Lovely recipie. I've always cooked the fish first - interesting to know that you don't have to. I am really trying to reduce the amount of power I use atm. So the tips I would add, if I may are; cut your potatoes small and steam them in a stove top stacking steamer ( less water to boil); fill your oven - put nuts to roast or cookies in the bottom ( cooler) part; realise that there is heat still there after you finish cooking ( especially with an electric stove - so I don't think this one applies to you, Jayne, but your followers might be able to use it) so don't cook everything for the full time - for example i would cook this pie for 15 mins, turn oven off, wait another 15 mins before eating.
