Polish person: good thing for Polish team is that nobody here expects anything from this team, its the very first time like this since 80s. I still remember all these overwhelming expectations in 2002, when we lost to South Korea in group stage, and it hurt people here a lot. Same for 2006, nobody thought we could lose to Equador. 2012 - we were in the easiest Euro group ever and couldnt even get one win against Greece, Russia or Czechs. 2018 - disappointment vs Senegal and brutal beating from Colombia. 2021 - disappointment again vs Slovakia and Sweden. Now everyone in Poland knows our team is shit, and it might be good for these players. We can only get some points vs Austria probably, but nobody will care if we lose because Austria is very strong, not talking about Netherlands and France. Doesnt matter for us if Lewandowski plays or not, he doesnt do well recently in this team. its similar to 2008 when we got into a group with Germany Croatia and Austria, we were lot worse team than Germany and Croatia. In conclusion: i dont think we'll get more than 1 point here, it wouldnt surprise me at all if we lose everything. But they play with no pressure, so maybe a goal or two and we'll see

On paper Germany is still clearly above everyone else in the group, and Group B (Spain, Croatia, and Italy) as well as group D (France, Netherlands, Austria, Poland) seem more competitive. I wouldn't consider any of your bold predictions bold (they are all quite sound if you follow football) except maybe the Bruno Fernandes one, which seems a bit random given how many exceptional players are playing at the EURO. Regarding your full predictions, I agree with literally all your group results. As an Austrian myself I would not go too crazy with the hype of our team, I am not sure whether we even get out of the group, the group is too tough to call and anything can happen. So I have Austria as one of the 3rd placed teams to advance, which means my playoff bracket would look a bit different. In the knockout rounds my prediction is that Spain will beat Germany in the quarterfinals. Spain has been an achilles heel of Germany in the past 20 years and I don't see that changing here. Austria vs. Portugal...I am not sure Austria would win this, you never know what to expect from Portugal, but I think their individual class is a bit too much, so I'd go with Portugal here if I had that matchup in my bracket. England vs. Croatia..I somehow feel like Croatia is gonna be really really strong again. In my bracket Croatia is in the semis, so I'd probably have to go with them here. If Germany really goes against Austria, I have to go with Austria here. Rangnick knows what he is doing and if it comes to that matchup he is gonna show everyone in his home country who the best coach really is 😄. And Austria would lose against France in the final because of...more individual class, more experience, a deeper squad, Mbappé...so basically because of everything :D. If the final is Germany vs. France I would actually go with Germany because the play style of France is a good fit for Germany as opposed to some other teams (like Spain in my opinion). In my bracket Spain, Portugal, France, and Croatia are in the semis and France will win it in the end.

Enjoyed that mate, & looking forward to the tournament! Agree with you on a lot; Croatia and Belgium being underrated, think Croatia still have that edge and while Belgium were poor at the World Cup a lot can happen in two years and they qualified well. Also have similar reservations about England. Gareth's team was bold and young, so it should serve us in future tournaments but whether we have enough experience in the team for now I'm not sure. Also not sure if the balance is there, and not having a settled back four is huge. But hopefully we still have a good tourney, it's still a great time to be an england fan. Personally I have Spain and France in the final, I think Spain are going under the radar a bit, they look strong and have the nations league under their belt. But as you say, sport is inherently unpredictable so not sure why we even bother with playing at nostradamus...

I quite disagree about the team being worse than the 2022 world cup. Defensively we are much better, attacking wise we have a lot more creativity and options in the attack with Frimpong, Xavi Simons, and Malen able to cover the right forward position. Memphis has looked great in recent weeks and Weghorst and Zirkzee (and maybe still Brobbey) from the bench or as tall physical striker options being a great rotation. Midfield wise we are weaker, but Reijnders, Veerman and Schouten are all great players, Veerman and Schouten who have been amazing for PSV all year and Reijnders being the best midfielder for the Netherlands since the world cup. Frenkie De Jong is a miss but Schouten is a different profile in the same role and honestly is a better fit currently at DM for how the team plays.

I really think you're underestimating the Dutch. First of all, I think their midfield is a lot more solid than you think. Second of all, I think you're underestimating Koeman, he's not world class but definitely better than the likes of Roberto Martinez, Southgate or Tedesco. Additionally, the past European championships have shown that you mainly have to be very difficult to defeat to get far into the tournament and the Dutch have the best defense of the entire competition in my opinion and seem to have chosen for a more conservative midfield, meaning more protection of their defenders.

If you watch that euro favorites video Alfie put together you’ll see that the favorites going into the tournament have rarely won since the format was expanded in 1984. 1988, 1992, 2004, 2008, 2016, 2020 were all unexpected champs. A favorite hasn’t won since 2012 (Spain). With that said, I agree. It’s France’s to lose.

We Austrians tend to start dreaming as soon the national team plays half decent, but I don't see many people here who actually believe that we will reach the semi-final. I've now seen multiple predictions guessing Austria will get far. I believe a lot of people don't know that we are missing 3 key players (Alex Schlager, Xaver Schlager, Alaba) and that our attacking subs are absolutely woeful.
