Crazy how people are critical of Emily's little hiccups during the show and at the same time deny Chester ever had these. To make it clear: Chester is one of the greatest singers to ever grace this planet, but he had moments where he wasn't in full control or sounded very forced or off in live shows. And that's nothing to be ashamed of, these songs are freaking hard and i can only imagine how hard it must be to doing that for 60 minutes plus on stage. For Emily honestly i think it was mostly being emotional and overwhelmed. And honestly in those moments i immediately started to feel like she was the right fit. How boring would it have been if they had hired one of the cover band singers, who would have more or less tried to be a clone of Chester and gone through the motions. This had the feeling of a real band, with real emotions and a live show that is spontaneous and embraces that. That's why Linkin Park stood out - they were and are in this lineup a modern band with that real old school feeling of a liveshow, where anything can happen. Perfection can be really boring in my opinion, this was exciting.
@RedCapBlockАй бұрын
I agree with what you said. Also, Chester himself said that Crawling was hell to perform. That's why they stopped playing the full band version and switched to a simple acoustic piano ballad variant of it. The mere fact that she was able to do the OG version her own way is something I respect.

@@michaeljames1337She was in a band before, sure, but she likely was a huge fan of LP well before she ever considered the prospect of being in it. The emotional weight of losing Chester being reopened in a lot of ways, the emotional weight of wondering if you can fill his shoes not only technically but also in the eyes of the fan base. There’s a ton of emotional layers to all of this, and if you’ve ever done vocal work before you would know how much vocalists will utilize emotion to achieve certain sounds, tones, and moods in their work. For her to have a few hiccups in a blind live show in which she officially appears as the vocalist singing alongside Mike where Chester was is perfectly understandable, and you can’t claim to know what it’s like to be in that position, all you’ve been able to do is just decide that she should have been able to handle it and dismiss her performance out of hand. Rather than judge her, if you’re a fan maybe support her. She isn’t there by accident, the band made this decision as a group, they clearly have spent enough time to write an album, and they must see or feel something that has informed them this is right. That's so interesting to hear! I've only just heard of them since the new song came out. I'll have to check them out.

@15:53 I mean I don't know about y'all but I cried like a freaking baby watching their show the first time, and as days go by I still get really emotional and cry a bit still. This for me, being now a mentally healthy adult, having had Linkin Park as a band that got me through a lot of bad stuff in my teens it's just... I don't know, anyway, she said in the big interview they did that she was like a huge fan of linkin park as well, so like... she's like us right, we're all very emotional about all of this, because to me this is the chance to ear such important songs for the first time again, but now I'm an adult, I have awesome audio gear to enjoy these things to the max and it's just incredible. I can't imagine what it's like for her!

I have so much respect for the entire Band doing this! Seeing Mike having so much fun is like giving a kid back its favourite toy. Its realy good to have them Back, I needed that.

This is one of my favorite videos from the stream!! The passion and excitement is contagious, you noticed a lot of minuscule details that made me appreciate her voice even more. I actually can't wait for the new album and see what they make with her voice. She's got this

I don't understand anything about musical techniques and loved your analysis. You were the only one noticing she was emotional. I noticed that too and didn't find a single youtuber commenting on it so far. It does still sound like Linkin Park even without Chester, it's amazing. Mike did a phenomenal job by choosing her. He was very happy through all the concert. Amazing.

Emily must have been interacting with the Chris Liepe vocal course, because looking back at her previous works, she has definitely had singing lessons, and performed vocal exercises to enhance her abilities.

Her grit sounds similar to the type of distortion that m shadows has started using over the last year or 2. At least to my ear. I have no idea what kind of distortion that would be but sounds great

man i appreciate your vocal breakdowns so much, it really helps me understand how to keep my own voice together when singing but also allows me to appreciate the full dynamics of other vocalists. i loved emily's performance and i'm really looking forward to seeing what else she has to offer.

@brittanyloch6703Ай бұрын
She really needs to watch your reaction! So many voices of criticism around her, she absolutely needs a voice of someone who actually understands how good she sings and GETS when she has any "fuck ups" as so many others continue to say. I also think she did an EXCELLENT job especially with how incredibly difficult it must've been for her to step into such a massive band with a massive fan base, and to get on that stage in front of the whole world!

She was apparently getting emotional and that's where those hiccups happened, which makes a lot of sense! That show had to be HEAVY. Especially during Waiting For The End? She's amazing.
@SarahsVeganSpace6 күн бұрын
I loved this. This show was so emotional. As true Linkin Park fan from the first minute, it was like coming home. Linkin Park always nailed how the different elements of music compliment each other. Finding another vocalist to compliment the songs this awesomely and still having her own unique technique that is not the same as Chester, is another testament why Linkin Park is one of the best bands ever!!

@wesley6442Ай бұрын
Love you videos, Chris your energy and excitement and genuine compassion for music and singers is infectious haha! In regards to my opinion on the new singer, I think she's awesome and as a vocalist myself (still learning fry screams) who has played a live show before with my own metal two man band, I feel she still needs a little more practice I mean granted she had only 8 months to get up to speed on everything that is my honest unfiltered opinion, some songs she really kicked ass and others you could tell she struggled but as she spends more time and practice and finding her voice and gaining better control she'll become a master and I am already thoroughly impressed by her, she's a great addition to LP glad to have her on. I played a live show not long ago and I thought myself a Master at my own singing style, I use compression style singing and I have it down pact but I didn't even consider warming up before the show and talked a lot before getting up on stage and to my surprise my voice actually cracked once during the first song and I was like "no way.." lol it felt a little embarrassing, especially since my music is dark, serious and brutal so I felt kinda silly but I don't think anyone noticed because of the wall of sounds and hey, no one's perfect haha but I had a great time, so whenever I see other singers and performers on stage I get so giddy and vicariously excited because I know the excitement and rush of getting up stage and capturing everyone's attention in the moment.. it's an amazing feeling! we even had a mosh pit going on which was so badass haha seeing this live performance makes me want to get up there again, it's such a blast

Her cleans are absolutely phenomenal Edit: Also funnily enough she actually has a song with Dead Sara, 'violent' that kind of mimics the 'shut up' from one step closer. Not as intense but probably why she's able to do it so well.

So much to say but firstly thank YOU for this heartfelt realistic analysis (not ignorant and/or opinionated). So much hate in the comments. Of course she's a pro singer (not a newbie or an amateur) and she is singing/screaming in so many different ways without a break! I can't even comprehead the pressure and stress she was under to do somebody else's music (not her own!) justice. I preferred the song they created together, probably because they're is no comparison, and I can't wait to hear what they've been cooking. Can't wait.

Watched this too many times to count and Chris you nailed every aspect of this. I personally feel she was amazing and even though it was the original stuff she put her own twist on it and made it her own. Especially in Crawling when she sang/screamed reaaaaaaaoooooollllll!

The poor girl was under tremendous pressure to come up with the goods. She was emotional, probably had a frog in her throat, She had to stop, or pass to the crowd several times, but Mike wasnt worried. He knows Emily has the good. Mike was also very timid for the first few songs....before finally loosening up. And lets not forget this is live. The album is going to sound great when it's released in November!
@ledooniАй бұрын
Your take on all the different aspects of her performance perfectly reflect my impression. They really give her voice and her emotional style of singing room to shine and it sometimes does sound rough which is exactly what makes it great. It even somewhat shows in the studio version of the new single and I wish more bands were doing that. Kinda reminds me of the best Breaking Benjamin and Three Days Grace times. Really hoping to get tickets for the LP show in Hamburg or for more shows to be announced for next year. Thanks for covering this, Chris! 🙌

I like how you also went into "explaining" the imperfections I really felt heartbroken on the Livestream and got mad when people wrote like "wtf.. oh no.. stop.." etc If you REALLY watched it as you said and listened you KNOW its not because "shes weak or cant do it" but its just the moment.. the crowd.. or the Emotion (big time here).. Love your stuff keep it going. :)
