At last, someone who knows how to explain things. It's unbelievable how often I come across KZbinrs who make changing something on a camera more like a dive into quantum mechanics rather than a simple menu alteration......thank you. 🙂

Juan, as a retired professional of some 40 years in the business, shooting everything from annual reports to the decks of us naval carriers, and all formats from 8”x10”, 2.25 and 35 mm, it’s a wonder to me that so many features can be stuffed into such a tiny space. Your rundown and clear explanation of the various functions of the A7IV has been invaluable to me. Thankyou

Hi Juan! I am an avid KZbin watcher (about 95% photography related!) and I must say, your channel is outstanding! I shot Nikon for 13 years (latest camera bodies were the D850 and the Z7) , but have switched systems to Sony. As a new Sony shooter (I have had an A7riv for about a month) your tutorials have been extremely helpful. Very professional, easy to understand and fun to watch! The reason I switched to Sony, which by the way I never thought I would do, was ultimately because I want to shoot mirrorless and I want premium performance with regard to auto focus. I became frustrated with my Nikon Z7's AF shortcomings enough to compel me to sell all of my Nikon gear and switch to Sony. It was a bit scary at first, but now, with the help of your instruction, I am becoming more and more comfortable. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Nikon. I believe their cameras and lenses are superb. However, for me personally, Sony is a better fit! Videos like this one are very important to all Sony shooters, but especially newcomers to the system like myself. I will anxiously be watching and wish you all the best! take care, Rick

Rick, Thanks for your very kind words. Switching is never easy and like you said kind of scary. But it's all about practice. The more you shoot the faster you get used to a new system. Thanks!

I just purchased a Sony A 7R4 with a 24-70 lens and after listening to Juan Pond , My go to setting, i am more confident about using the camera since I am migrating from a different brand to the Sony . Thanks Juan for a very clear and easy to understand explanations of each setting. You made a very complex camera appears to be easy to tackle.

Thanks Juan. Great video. Your doing Sony's job making the A7R4 more manageble. Sony could win more hearts and souls i.m.o. through updating the menu once more by firmware.

Excellent video Juan. Great appearance at FLCC last night as well. I didn’t get an opportunity to introduce myself after your presentation but wanted to let you know I enjoy your channel and miss you on the Recompose podcast. Keep up the great work!

I mosly use tracking focus mode. This is a new mode for the Mark IV (it was first available on the 6400 and then on the A9 via firmware upgrade). I think that this is by far the best mode since you can mark an object (by default the spot is in the middle) and from that point on the camera track its location (switching automatically between eye/face/(body/object) tracking

Yes this works very well, but sometimes when the subject is moving very fast the camera can't keep up.

Thanks for making this video Juan. I like that you order them based on how they show up in the menu. Great tip! I was interested/confused that you had a few items in the function menu that you leave alone 99.99%+ of the time?
@JuanPons5 жыл бұрын
I guess I do have those menu items there because while I only change them very very rarely, I still change them more often than any other system setting. Makes sense?

Hi Juan, Interesting video on your camera settings. Pretty close to the way I have it setup. Have a couple of settings setup with custom using the custom dial. What I think is cool but have not tried it yet is you can save your settings to an SD card and share or even share online. I think this can only be done with the A7RIV. Cheers!
@JuanPons5 жыл бұрын
Hi Stuart. I have never really liked using custom dials settings. I tried them when I was shooting Canon and then with the Sonys and I still did not like them. I am eager to try the savings of the settings though. That does sound very useful, specially since the Sony service center seems hell bent on always upgrading your firmware even when it's not needed and they do it in such a way to erase all your settings.

Hi and thanks for the video. I have just purchased a used A7r in. Could I ask does the top middle control dial feel a little bit squishy 😔 compared to the front dial which feels really positive and you can feel it click. Thanks

It should not.

I have a question for you: When i check fullframe pictures in the 1:1 view (by pressing the af-on button in review mode) on the sony a7r iv it takes almost 3 seconds to load the 1:1 review on the screen or the viewfinder. Does that loading time change if you have a faster card, like uhs ii card? ( i currently only use uhs 1 cards).
@JuanPons5 жыл бұрын
I had never thought of this but you made me curious and I had to try and I have to say that yes the 1:1 preview comes up faster when using the UHS-II cards than not. For the test I used the Sony G crds with the read speeds of 300MB/s compared to a Sandisk extreme that shows 90MB/s on the card. Hope that helps.
@cryvee5 жыл бұрын
@@JuanPons thanks a lot for testing. Do you happen to know how fast it loads with the uhs ii card? Like perhaps 1 second?
@JuanPons5 жыл бұрын
@@cryvee it's about half, so I would say between one and one and a half seconds.

I'm curious. Quick menu is designed to give you access to settings you don't want to browse through submenus for. But 80% of the features you have pinned you ended your description with comments like "99% of the time I use auto or dont change this" or in the case of AWB "I change this 2-3 times a year" Doesn't that kind of go against the whole use for the feature? Wouldn't you be better off populating it with stuff.. you know.. need to change frequently?
@JuanPons3 жыл бұрын
You are correct. The things I change most often are programmed onto the different custom buttons for easy access. Then the things that I relegate to the quick menu are secondary things that I only need to change 2-3 times a year.
