I really like the first Odysseus with the steel bracelet and the blue dial. Yes, it’s a boardroom design, yes, it’s kinda quirky, and yes, it’s somewhat odd, but I really like it, and probably would buy it over a Nautilus or a Royal Oak.

The comment about being drawn back to the watch over and over was incredibly spot on. Occasionally, before I hunker down in bed, I'll look at saved photos of a Lange 1, Triple Split, and/or the Double Split Datograph Perpetual on my phone- I may have a problem.....

The evolution of Lange as a brand needs to extend into the sport watch realm and even the dive watch realm. There are multiple watch owners of AP Royal Oaks who have never purchased an AP dress piece. A brand needs to provide its patrons and aficionados with the opportunity to meet their broader horological needs by providing them with the entire spectrum of watch products and not just one type of watch. The dress watch category is stalled and even stagnant in comparison to the sport watch and dive watch realm. As collectors, we are one customer who wants to own a variety of different brands but a brand wants to sell a variety of different watches to one customer. Lange and Richemont look at Patek Phillipe or even Journe and see that those brands are selling multiple watches to the same customer. By extending the Lange range beyond dress watches, Lange wants to increase its ability to obtain multiple sales to the same customer.

When I think about Lange as a brand, the Odysseus doesn’t come to mind first. As you stated, watches like the Lange 1, 1815 and Zeitwerk spring to mind. The Odysseus is a very interesting watch though and the newer white gold versions with the slate grey dial really do look stunning. That dial colour really has enhanced the look of the watch. Seeing it on the leather and rubber straps makes me think that the Odysseus is more of an ‘Aquanaut’ than a ‘Nautilus’. I liked it on the bracelet but, I think that it really does look great on the straps. Maybe it’s just that new slate grey dial colour. A lot more subtle. The body of the watch doesn’t have the substance to be a Nautilus or Royal Oak. It’s too round and simple. The bracelet is a real sticking point for many. A bit of a mis match maybe? Another interesting video to debate over my friend. I must admit, the Odysseus is certainly growing on me. ✊

Man, that watch looks dope as hell. The only thing I'm not quite sure about is the day window on the left side, everything else, it seems to me like the Swiss brands made dope luxury sports watches but then they got one-upped by the Germans, again. Let Lange be Lange.

First, let me just say I love the channel, and find you very insightful. I hear negativity, but cannot square it. To me, the design is sporty and screams A.Lange. I tried one on the wrist, it is simply stunning. The feel on the wrist blew me away. Before trying it on, I was a little concerned about the integration of the bracelet, but to be honest- it is perfect in person, and the micro-adjustment is tops. Truly a first tier timepiece.

Personally having tried the Odysseus, I like it more compared to the Royal Oak and the nautilus and strangely enough I like the bracelet.....to the point I ordered one. Now what I would’ve liked to see is the new white gold version with a salmon dial ....that would’ve been a killer 😊

Agree. It felt so amazing, that all other opinions simply faded, when I had it on the wrist. A color combination to the likes of the 2019 Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon would be really interesting to see

Right now I can’t get enough of the brand and that includes the Odysseus. It’s not perfect but I applaud what they do on all fronts. I look forward to owning one at some point to really get to know it!

Interesting take. I have tried on a lot of Lange watches and didn’t particularly like their appearance other than a Datograph. The mechanics of course are the best. I had the opportunity to actually try on an Odysseus in Dresden. I thought it was great. It Looks good,great mechanics, and something I actually could wear on a regular basis as opposed to holidays. I put a deposit down and I have no idea when I’ll take delivery considering the quarantine.

Interesting designs are always divisive (at first). Some of us like what others do not... design in the fringes (though that is real stretch saying that for this watch). Perhaps the audience for Odysseus is different than their standard buyer. Lange took a chance instead of slowly evolving existing models.... that would have been boring and there is still time for them to do that. I like most of the brand's watches, and this is likely my new favorite. The fact that so many people hate it... only makes me like it more. It's a mile more interesting than the AP 11:59. Just an opinion...

The watch just got released. Of course it is not going to become an iconic piece so quickly such that when you think about Lange, you think about it. And if you simply made a Lange 1 more sporty, people will either say you are corrupting the line, or making a lame attempt to jump onto the sports watch bandwagon. You can't win them all. Between a half hearted effort and coming up with something totally new like they did, the latter is way more commendable.

I just love the white gold version with the leather strap. It's a unique proposition in the luxury sportswatch segment. There's nothing out there that combimes ruggedness with exceptional craftsmanship like the Odysseus! That's the watch that you can wear to your Board Meeting and then jump into your Land Rover, drive into the woods and go hunting with.

I think the Odysseus watch is such a misunderstood watch. It's a Lange for Lange fans/owners that want an every day wearable watch as opposed to a watch trying to become the next Hype watch.

Very good argument there. But maybe thay was the same with nautilus and royal oak in the beginning? Introducing new watch families to a brand takes some time perhaps. It's an open question that I dont have the answer to myself. Just some food for thought.

This slate grey Odysseus is leaps and bounds ahead of the blue dialed model. I think a lot of it has to do with the fluting of the dial circumference and sub dial. Even the opposing day/date complication is passable. They're getting much closer with this model in my opinion. If you put this particular model on a mesh or beads of rice I think it would look fantastic, as it stands I have to say I am becoming a fan. Maybe like VC with the Overseas, "Gen 3" (more like third revision) may be the one that hits the mark.

I have huge respect for the brand and would kill for one of their digital models which are just incredible. This one though just isn't growing on me tbh. I don't exactly dislike it, but it certainly doesn't drive me crazy as I would have expected it you'd described it to me. Great vid as always.

I think the problem with releasing SS versions of their respective icons like the lange 1 or datograph is that then lange will not be able to sell the platinum and more profitable versions....If they release an SS datograph that costs the same as a platinum that alone is gonna be controversial and not sell either. Its a tricky one. Luxury watches are tricky as they are just luxuries so people need a reason to buy one and spend a lot of money on a precious metal object.

If you view it as a sport watch in the vein of the Day Date rather than in the vein of the GMT Master ii it makes sense. Yes a sport watch, but a dressy sport watch. The bracelet is the problem, as everyone knows. Put this on a simpler, more masculine bracelet (NOT mesh, good lord, no!), something like the President bracelet on the Day Date... or, what I predicted: that they'd do something like the Nautilus bracelet but with a double link in the middle that echoed the look of the big date window), then the steel Odysseus would be a huge hit. Next step... just get rid of the day function and make it a jumping hour GMT home time indicator... and you'd have my grail. And honestly, I think they'd be pre-sold for 10 years like the Daytona.

I can totally relate to where you are coming from, with the rest of the line up they just hold your attention, fascinate even! Then you look at the Odd yseus and it just looks a bit....not right on the bracelet, I cannot put my finger on it but it really is the integrated bracelet that is awry! Why could they have not released it in the 2 dial colours, but with a bracelet and the 2 strap options (think VC Overseas), now that would have been a winner!!

Curious thing about that SS bracelet on the Odysseus. I'm not too sure it's an ALS design. It's definitely not an exclusive since JLC also uses that style in some of their models such as Master Geographic Ref. 1428121, the Geophysic Universal Time Ref. 8108120 or the Geophysic True Second Ref. 8018120

I love this watch, i really can dig into the design and its language, but i recently was looking through brands and what watches to put on my dream bucket list, if i would have to choose only one iconic watch of each brand and i totally forgot about the Odysseus. For me personally this tells a lot about the abundance of this watch and that it doesn't match what the brand stands for. Even if it resembles exactly what i would have imagined a Lange Sportswatch to look like and clearly speaks the german design language of the Brand

Then again, icons are often made by time and compared to other models from both competitors as well as Lange itself, the Odysseus still remains rather new and only one of six model lines from the manufacture, which makes it hard to think of Lange & Odysseus, just like one thinks of Patek Philippe & the Nautilus or Audemars Piguet and the Royal Oak.

Overall, I like it. But I’d change a few things: change the red 60 to black text and ditch the integrated bracelet. Also, if they had put out the gray dial first, I think they would have gotten less backlash. I would love to see it in the metal.

This watch, I can’t get my head around this watch. The first time I saw it in steel, the bracelet looks like it was not designed for the watch. There is not symmetry between the case and the bracelet. I said to myself, this would probably look better on a strap - ironic for a steel sports watch with an integrated bracelet. Now I see it on the strap, it does look better in my humble opinion. However why did they maintain the end links? I listened to the CEO of Lange who said the leather and the rubber are two different model numbers so you’d probably have to buy the other strap by yourself - you won't get both straps with the gold model. He also said that the bracelet from the steel model would not fit the white gold models. This I find strange. Look, I’ll never own one of these watches but as an academic exercise, I find some of the decisions around this model strange. It's fine to look at watches in the abstract on the web but if I had the money in my hand, I'd spend it on something else. So a miss for me. For me the Lange1, Zeitwerk and their chronographs are what I'd go for.

The Odysseus is not my cup of tea, but to each ones taste. The model is "tame" an no risky jump like the Royal Oak or Nautilus were. Too close to the rest of the line. Maybe I am wrong, but imagine a real Lange sports watch. Something radical an unexpected, but in their design language and quality. Langes are just stunning in craftsmanship and details. "Trinity" should be finally changed to "Quadriga".

The bracelet still does not work, nor the leather or rubber, the end link integration with the case doesn’t work, it’s too fussy, trying too hard. The other thing wrong are the hands, too pocket watchy not enough sporty.....but the whole watch looks better in the grey. Still what’s the point in critiquing when I’m not a potential customer?

I think if Lange had just given the Odysseus a more conventional lug and bracelet design without trying to go for the current ‘trendy’ integrated look. It would of been a more successful and less forgettable design, while still comfortably falling into the ‘sports watch’ category they were aiming at. It’s overall just not that great, even the new white gold variants. A rare faux-pas on the part of my favorite high-horology brand. A design by committee I suspect...as in the high-ups in the Richemont group maybe wanting a sports watch from the brand to try and make for a more profitable proposition within said parent conglomerate?

i think that the rubber strap reference looks great. unfortunately the design doesn’t allow for strap/bracelet changes. that’s a big weakness imo if i were looking for a sports watch in this price range. beautiful watch nonetheless.
