Those lilies are absolutely stunning. Every summer my neighbor plants them in her yard. This year I decided to copy cat her and planted one in a pot. It’s growing and flowering wonderfully. We get the Tropicana variety in the garden centers. Thanks for sharing!

My goodness gracious...Wow-za!!! What a beautiful garden. Thank you for sharing. I just invested in canna this year and hope to save them for years to come. Thanks for inspiring me. How do you keep the areas around the base of your cannas so weed free? Beautiful garden!!!!😊
@PlantSmartLivingNOW Жыл бұрын
Thank you Tammy for your kind words, I use mulch around the base of my plants to keep the weeds from growing! 😊

They certainly are beautiful! The red theme you have going on is really something to see...your own little paradise. As someone said, "life began in a garden." It's no wonder all that beauty touches our souls ☺ the good Lord gave us the capacity to appreciate it. Happy trails!

Fred, I am guessing that maybe you plant last years bulbs that have already multiplied all in one chunk without separating? Because if you separated them once they have multiplied, I'm thinking that your plants would not be that large. They look extra beautiful in such large clumps, or as you say, a boquet. 😁.
@PlantSmartLivingNOW Жыл бұрын
If the clumps get too large in diameter there certainly is nothing wrong with separating them if you wanna put them in other areas, the smaller size clumps also look beautiful. 😊

Hi Fred, Your canna llly placement on the lawn is so beautiful. This video is inspiring. I've never seen the Canna lilies, set out like that . It does look really tropical . Thanks for that idea. I have 2 questions, what's the material that you use around the base of the Calla lilies - is it Mulch or straw. Also at the 3:50 mark in the video , is it just one Canna lily plant in each section, or multiple?
@PlantSmartLivingNOW2 жыл бұрын
I use mulch around the canna lily plants and those areas you mentioned are multiple plants, they grow bigger and bigger each year. Thanks for stopping by and sharing!

I live in zone 9b, weather gets to 3 degrees, 110+. My cannas are burning down. We don't need to dig out because we don't get below freezing. I planted them fall 2020. My question is, do I keep watering once they die back?

I have canna lilies which return each year, same zone in S.W. Connecticut. They are prolific!! The flowers are edible and tasty! I like breaking off the flowers are sucking out the nectar.... very small amount but sweet and delish! My canna lilies are against the home foundation, facing south, so they receive sunlight all day, and I nrver dig them up. They return strong and spread a little bit each year. I would like to propagate these so I can try planting some more around ! Do I dig up and split the root rhizomes? How abiut the black round seeds?? Cheers, Farmer Fred! I love your channel, please keep sharing your passion with us! What will you plant for the fall and winter? I am planning on a carrot bed, 4 types of kale, maybe broccoli, maybe try cabbage and turnip. I am a beginner, learning and improving each year. Peace and blessings!
@PlantSmartLivingNOW7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind words… you can dig up and split the root rhizomes… I do that every year… That way you get more plants…You could try planting some of those seeds in a pot and see what happens… It's always fun experimenting out in the garden…I planted Curly leaf kale in my garden and broccoli as a cold weather crop…I also have an abundance of sweet potatoes that I will be harvesting probably in another month to store over the winter and I also have butternut squash that I will be storing over the winter as well… Thank you for stopping by and commenting and I hope you have a wonderful day!
