Ever since I found your channel last end of summer/fall, I've felt like I'm looking at my future. Same name, youngest child with the same name, Christ follower/worshipper, photography background, homeschooling. I found you from a dream that started stirring in my heart and soul of getting away from the hustle of "regular life" and go back to roots of self-sufficiency, getting closer to nature so I can grow closer to God, learn for myself and teach my children how food grows, etc. This dream feels so far away yet so close. It's a prayer I pray for every day. For some reason, as I watched you talk about your plans for the cottage garden, my eyes started welling with tears. I was kind of taken back because I really didn't know what I was feeling. I'm still not sure. I think maybe a mix of awe for just how beautiful this will be for you and awe in God and the beauty he allows us to partake in, I think a little bit of excitement for our future as well. I've always said I wanted to live somewhere with a cottage feel so I am so drawn to this. I think it may be a little bit of sadness as this for us also feels so far away and seemingly impossible at times. All that to say, thank you for sharing! It's inspiring, hopeful, motivational for me.

God bless KZbin for bringing us all together! I love that I have finally found my people. Even if we don't meet, it's so inspiring and uplifting to know we all exist! @MamaJESS My family is also working to live this way more. We are trying to get back to my grandparents farm, slowly fixing the house, barns, cleaning up the land. Some days it seems so far away, but I know that it is right in front of us. There's no going backwards, only forwards. I found this channel quite by accident, and so many things fell into place right around that time that I know I was meant to be here. Blessings to you and yours, you're homestead will be a reality, just keep reaching forward. ❤️

Jess, your natural joy is what encourages those of us who are just getting started, and also allows those who can't garden but want to, to sort of live vicariously through you. And, even if you don't think anyone else will ever watch what you publish, this is such an amazing platform, you are preserving for your children and grandchildren and every generation that follows, a real look into your daily life, from your perspective. Both the joys and the sorrows, they'll be able to have an understanding of how you lived in the world as it is today. Can you imagine, how cool would it be if we all had this kind of documentation of our ancestors from 4 or 5 or more generations back? People who we could never meet in person, but who are directly responsible for our existence. Its nearly like having a time machine.

I hate to admit it, but I have changed my garden plan 4 times already and pretty much where the plants end up is still in question, the weather has everything to do with where they go. We are still with freezing weather and snow, so pretty much, my garden is growing in the house under lights and on heat mats. Your tour was wonderful Jess, thank you. I will be happy to see the cottage garden as it grows and develops. You design, Miah builds, what a great partnership in growing your garden!! God bless you and your family. :-)

Jess, love your videos! Just wanted to tell you, when you commented about not planting a dozen summer squash...I had to laugh. We are a family of seven, too, and we totally plant a dozen or more summer squash - for one reason. We LOVE pickles (seriously, we can go through 2-3 quarts a day, no joke), so, we pick summer squash when it's tiny and pickle it like dill pickles. Absolutely delish! And, bonus, my bigger kids (ages 10, 8, and 6) can pack the jars. We put their name on the jars they pack, so during the year when we are eating them they can feel good about helping to feed the family. It's so cute seeing them beam with pride. By the way, your kids are absolutely adorable and you are such a good mom! Keep the videos coming! I also would love the roasted radish and dehydrated tomato videos!

What a joy to watch you and your enthusiasm. Honestly, 2 years ago I would have skipped this video, but at the beginning of 2018 I made a decision to start a veggie and berry garden, decided to build my own raised beds and have learned so much and made so many mistakes, but oh how those victories keep us going and re-planning for the next summer!! I am still learning and a bit vague about what to plant when, but hey, as long as we have fun and get some produce from our garden, which I am still harvesting here in late summer. I will watch this video again in winter here to start planning a summer garden as it will be so much different next year. For now, some Fall plants are going in and we see how they do

This is my first comment on your channel. I've been watching since the beginning of your BIG break out garden tour video. I absolutely love your garden! You and your lovely garden are the inspiration to my family moving back to our house in the country and getting out of this noisy, small spaced city life. I've had raised beds and gardened in the city for years but I want the garden of my dreams now, as you are building. Many people do and many don't get how that feels. I have plenty of land in the country and have already put down cardboard to start getting ready for planting THIS YEAR there! I'll garden at both places since it's only 30 minutes away until we move, also this year hopefully. The main garden will be in my side yard because that's where the most open space is that's closer to the house. Funny how that worked out. Then the hay fields will be turned into more garden, yay! I'm 39 and hubby is 40, we lived there in the county for 14 years before moving but I couldn't convince him to do a garden there....thankfully him becoming a vegetarian(along with me), he now wants to grow those organic veggies ourselves. Thank you for the inspiration and all of your hard work on the garden and the videos that we all have been able to enjoy for free mind you. :)

It would be great to see a drone video of your garden. It makes it so much easier for me to see the whole picture. I can't wait to expand my garden out but, since we will be building a new house, I think it would just get destroyed. Thanks for the videos--love your smile!

I absolutely love hearing your plans. It gives me new ideas for my garden. I am also one of the folks who appreciates knowing the different varieties you are growing. It's just nice to know how things are growing for other people. Especially, if it's a plant I have too.

Something I learned about okra last summer...I had alot! So, I started dehydrating some to see what it would be like. It's amazing dehydrated! I throw a handful in a soup or stewed tomatoes to eat over rice (cuz in the South stewed maters and okra over rice are a thing!) And the slimy factor is completely gone with the dehydrated okra. It also holds up really well when simmered in a sauce or soup as opposed to fresh okra which kinda falls apart. And stored in Mason jars, you can have a ton of okra preserved dry and use up almost no space.

Ive added a few things to my garden this year that you grew last year like Kajari melon, corbaci pepper, cucamelon, and a ground cherry. there is so much I want to plant, but my garden isn't quite as big as yours. I've also heard the adage of not growing potatoes near nightshade plants. But I've also seen people grafting tomato tops to potato bottoms to grow double duty veggies in the same footprint, and you can't get any nearer than on the same plant. So I'm very confused. xD Love the vision for the coming garden though. Gets my imagination running wild for my own little setup. Love your garden walkthroughs. Your rundown of varieties is what caused my seed collection to double in size. I saw SOOOO many things I just NEEDED TO TRY. For me, growing a typical veggie that everyone is familiar with, but a variety that is nothing like the norm, tickles me no end. I get unending joy from them - I just can't wait for my little thai lavender frog eggplants to take off.

Hi, love hearing your thoughts and plans for the gardens, the entrance to the new garden how about a moon gate with roses or honeysuckle growing up over an arch (cattle panel ) and a bird bath or sundial in the middle of the garden where the paths cross. Historically cottage gardens were a mix of herbs and fruit and veg and decorative flowers all mixed up together.

Hi Jess, My name is Toni, I am over in the UK, this is my 4th year of growing veg, each year i double what i grew before, went looking for ideas on net, came across your channel and have just been hooked! you are such an inspiration!! I have previously planted in raised beds, but used towers of car tyres and a couple of old rowing boats, salvaged a load of pallets recently and started building bigger raised beds, love your arch idea and having a go at that. Also trying straw bale planting. I have a bit of a 'skip rat' reputation of finding other peoples waste materials and building them into something great for our campus and garden, its an amazing world isn't it! Last year i threw some old potatoes that had started to sprout, into a car tyre tower i hadnt used, they were meant for the compost heap, i just didnt have time right then, forgot about them, they grew, i topped u some compost on them, left them to grow and they did really well, dont know what they like about the rubber bed, but they liked it, so going to purposely plant some this year. Happy planting and look forward to seeing the window house, cottage garden sounds great and everything else you have in store for us this year, love watching you.

If you end up having an overabundance of anything, dehydrate them and put them into a flour mill. Use the powder in Doughs, mixed with Cornmeal, press into Cubes & Can to use in soups & especially using them in your Roux for soups & sauces. 👍
