Thanks so much for this video! Thank you for showing your chart and talking in detail about your plan and the combination of foods to eat at each meal and snack. I am 28 weeks and 4 days with my 3rd baby and got the call this morning that I do have gestational diabetes this time. I've been researching all day and your video has helped me calm down and realize that it isn't the end of the world and may not be so bad...of course it won't be fun, but it will be manageable. Thanks again! 😊

Thank You so much Jen. Super informative video. I’m first time pregnant & last week I found out I’m diagnosed with GD. My GYN kept blaming me & stressing me out about it. I’ve changed my diet so much but didn’t know why my morning sugar kept spiking. So now I know! Thanks again ~your new subscriber

It is not your fault!!!! whoever your GYN is needs to stop saying that to make you feel bad!! Morning sugar is the hardest to control!! I was 31 weeks when I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. I am 32 now and it stressed me a lot. Watching this is a big help. Thank you for sharing your diet. I hope this works for me as well. Because its hard to go to a hospital to meet a dietician during a pandemic so this will really help me to choose what I can eat. My bad was drinking milk and eating fruit first thing in the morning but now I know. I’ll be using my glucometer for the first time tomorrow & I’m excited.

Nia Lopez you’re welcome 😉 I myself went back to watching this video the second pregnancy as well 🤣 it helped me so much to remind myself what to eat and what not to eat. Feel free to come back and refresh memories any time, but it’s simple just eat less carbs and more protein, but still gotta have small portion of healthy carbs coz those are good for you and the baby ❤️

I am 21 weeks pregnant and after my first glucose test and checking my sugar 4 times a day for a week, I was told by my ob that I have GD. My morning sickness went away at 19 weeks, and that's when I had to start checking my glucose, so for the past two weeks I've had to be careful with what I eat and from what the nurse at my OB said, my numbers are good. What sucks tho is that I have just started to feel good enough to eat, and now I can't eat! Hahahha i have 4 more months to go, and although I know I can do this for my baby, it's so sad that I can't eat what I want lol your video was so informative and encouraging! I have only gained about 2-3 pounds, and that's been a huge concern of mine since the beginning of my pregnancy, but my OB says everything is fine. I was looking forward to gaining healthy weight for my baby, but now having to restrict carbs, i feel it'll be difficult. I'm 5' and 131 lb, so it could be i was a litte overweight since the beginning. Your vid has definitely encouraged me to sign up for one of those nutrition classes on GD! Thanks for talking in detail about your food groups chart! The specific things we can eat from each group would be very helpful to learn 😊

Thank you so much, this video is super informative and supportive, especially for those like us. I am diagnosed with GD too and am put under Glyburide once a day. This whole thing has put me under stress and self-blaming the entire time before I found your story ( I did not get to attend such helpful GD class like you did). I am scheduled to be induced at 39w this November, so wish me luck. And once again thank you.

I'm so glad this video helped you! I was actually induced at 39 weeks for due to GD !! I've been wanting to share my induced birth experience also! I will upload that video soon (its hard to do anything when you have a young baby lol) I hope that video will give you some comfort and a little review of what will come in the future. And I'm so glad that now you know having GD is not your fault! I felt so bad for the longest time until I found out from my health provider that it was not anyone's fault! You are a wonderful mama for taking meds and watching out what you eat for your baby :) You will due just fine when Nov comes! Best of luck and I hope your birth experience will be so much easier than mine lol

Thanks for posting Jen. I just got an abnormal result for my first test yesterday, which had me all depressed. General research didn't make me feel any better, just hopeless and overwhelmed and near tears. You really helped me calm down a bit, while at the same time reinforcing my concerns--that it is a major lifestyle change. I hate fish, love carbs and dairy products, so I'm pretty much the worst candidate for this sort of lifestyle change. The healthiest foods I tend to consume are fruits, and now when I'm ready to embrace more fruits, I find out fruits are the devil? Ugh. But you still made this a little more bearable until part two of my test tomorrow. Hopefully I pass, but I probably won't. I just sense it. Thankfully my hubby is the most supportive I could possibly ask for. He is ready to start a diet with me, even though he will probably suffer the most, being that he has an extreme sweet tooth. Thank you again!
@JenJenBabyJayden
@JenJenBabyJayden 4 жыл бұрын
Oh dear Judy, I know exactly how you feel, I felt the same, twice with both of my pregnancies lol. I was hopeful both times and I failed my test both times, that wasn't so fun. BUT its all worth it when your sweet baby comes out healthy and thriving! The dieting part isn't easy but it can be done, your husband is so sweet to support you by doing the diet with you! He will def lose some weight and maybe become healthier in the process!! Although the chances seem slim but I still hope you pass your second test, and if you do pass it, still try to eat less sugary stuff so your baby doesn't grow too big for you to push out :) Good luck on your 2nd test!!!

Such a great video. I have alot of question about GD as i am diagnosed with it at week 25. My blood level increased mostly after afternoon meal and i do agree when i get stress my suger came abit high. I really dont knw wht to eat but i mostly eat healthy. i hope my baby gona be fine. Its my first baby. also i today i test my suger after 2 hours i ate my meals so it came fine. but midwife said do check it after one hour of every meal. well plz let me know if i keep checking it after 2 hours? and pray for me thanks x
@JenJenBabyJayden
@JenJenBabyJayden 5 жыл бұрын
Dear you will be ok as long as you keep eating healthy! If that afternoon meal is when your sugar spikes, you should do some adjustment to that meal, more protein and less carbs OR drink lots of water after meal OR talk a 30 min walk. I had to adjust my breakfast to almost no carb at the very end of my pregnancy since I didn't have time to go on a walk after breakfast and water didn't help much. Everyone is a little bit different, but you will learn to know your body the best, and adjust to its need. My dietitian told me to test after 1 hour every meal, but I know some tells you to test after 2, if your dietitian or midwife ask you to test after 1 hour, then do as instructed, mine was after 1 hour from your first bite of the meal, and it had to be below 140. It was pretty difficult to control. Keep in mind, lots of water and exercise will lower your sugar as well.

Oh dear, try not to worry too much, most of the pregnant women pass their second test, but if you don't, that's ok too. GD is not that scary, just gotta eat often and eat healthy! you will be just fine! Don't sweat it too much! I know its hard, b/c I was just like you, I was super nervous too, but now that I've been thru all that, I know its really no biggie! so try to relax and enjoy your pregnancy ~

Oh I know it can be depressing when we first found out, but you'll feel better when you don't gain much weight from the pregnancy lol The protein bar was Nature Valley, I bought it from Costco, make sure to read the nutritious chart in the back, some has little to no protein, you have to buy the ones that has more protein to it, so it evens out the carbs.

@@mariosmith4859 Having GD doesn't mean you did not manage your diet well or ate poorly, mainly its just in your genes and you can't avoid it. Plus eating healthy and eating GD diet are two different things. Sometimes eating fruits are healthy in mainstream diet but not in GD diet~ Have fun learning about GD, I feel like I learned lots about food after having GD, it was one good thing that came out of this stressing situation, I learned to eat healthier in a Diabetes way

Any specific diet soda? How many times a day?
@JenJenBabyJayden
@JenJenBabyJayden 6 жыл бұрын
I drank any kind of diet soda, my favorite was diet 7up, and sometimes diet root beer. I switch brand just so I wouldn't get bored with one type of diet soda. I remember drinking only one or two glass at night with dinner, just because during breakfast and lunch I didn't crave diet soda, I wanted to drink more of ice water or tea, the things that refreshed my day. I don't think there's a limit, but moderation is the key, don't over do anything, you should be just fine.

Hi Jen, isn't it bad to loose weight while pregnant?
@JenJenBabyJayden
@JenJenBabyJayden 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Erica, the answer varies depending on each womens own weight, some moms are overweight and gain weight way too fast b/c the old myth says that Pregnant women can eat whatever they want, so under some circumstances, its ok for pregnant women to lose weight as long as the baby is growing on schedule. When pregnant women gain too fast, the baby may grow too big and can result in difficulty giving birth. Since I had GD, I had to control my weight and sugar to make sure my son did not grow too big. I was gaining weight too fast in the first and second trimester and people always tell me my belly looked way to big, my doctor even told me to control my weight since I was gaining too fast and the baby was way ahead of his growth schedule, it wasn't until after I found out I had GD that I realized that's why baby's was growing so big. some of the GD mamas give birth to 10-13 lbs baby! I was lucky I was able to control my diet well so my son was only 7.5 lbs.

What happened after you gave birth? Did you end up taking the test to see if you have Type 2 Diabetes? How did that go? I am nervous about that test. Thank you for sharing your story. ❤️
@JenJenBabyJayden
@JenJenBabyJayden 5 жыл бұрын
I actually have not taken that test yet, I was suppose to go in 6 months postpartum, but I was so busy taking care of my son I never went in and then I got pregnant again lol. I think you can go in and take that test any time after the 6 months postpartum. I'm just trying to eat a balanced meal, if you are really concerned, keep taking the 4 test each day after meal and when you wake up to keep track of your blood sugar. I'm just waiting until I have more time to go in and take the test, but for right now, having a toddler and a baby is not going to give me any time to go take that test.

Is almond milk okay in the breakfast
@JenJenBabyJayden
@JenJenBabyJayden 3 жыл бұрын
It looks like almond milk only has 1 carb per serving and should be ok, but it also varies each person. I was very carb sensitive to an extent I couldn't even have whole wheat toast in the morning. Try it for a day and see if your sugar is ok. If it doesn't spike, then you should be fine, but if it does then its better to have tea or just plain water in the morning.

That’s a lot of foods. I was diagnosed with this 10th Dec 2018. I cut out all the fruits, all wholemeal n whole grains, all carbs, starchy carbs, milk, no snacks. These ppl aren’t serious about the diabetes or losing weight! I also fast 12 hrs a night no snacking. U don’t need to eat 6-7times a day just coz ur preg ur not eating for two baby only need 300k. I’m 31 weeks preg n eating 600k. I’m in ketosis which is great. I do feel like shit n tired, I’m on metformin n insulin. From 16 glucose reading I’m around 5.5-6 now. Great by god blessing. My bf is 2 eggs with a slice of cheese and a cup of coffee with almond milk. Lunch is grill chicken with spinach, glass of water with a slice of lemon, handfuls of nuts. Dinner fish steak, with pepper or 5 broccoli heads. Glass of almond milk. That’s all I eat ate since 2 weeks. Prior to this I did have fruits then the reading were high so I decided to go extreme n cut out all this for the safety of myself n baby during delivery. His already 4.5lb n I have 9wks to go, I don’t want c section n they predicted baby will be 9lbs! Whilst at uni n everywhere I go ppl was saying if I’m having twins! My mums thought I was 39weeks😰 I told the midwife at 20wks why is my belly so big they just ignored me. I had to oven wait till 29wks for the GTT. They waited so long my baby’s already got big. I hate the uk system!

Salma Khan wow! UK and US def have different gd diet education ! My nutritionist have taught me that I will need carbs in my diet, cutting it out entirely is not good for the mommy or the baby! However ! As I get closer to my due dates, I find out I can’t eat as much carbs as before, but everyone has different body reactions to different food, I know plenty of mama who can eat more carbs than me at the end of their pregnancies 😢 eating every 2-3 hours is so your sugar don’t drop and spike when you eat again, small and healthy snacks are ok to eat ! I don’t eat as much fruit as I hoped for too, one mini mandarins or small apple with peanut butter are usually what I eat, not too sweet but enough to satisfy my cravings ! Your diet seems similar to mine but sometimes I do eat two pieces of wheat toast with my meal or corns, and I always drank water and walked to decrease the sugar! I’m in Asia now and I can tell you their gd diet education is sooo different here too! They are sooo looose here ! I think I controlled my diet better with my first pregnancy bc of this ! I’m 33 weeks and almost 34 weeks and baby is already the size of 36 weeks, gotta control it better now so this second baby doesn’t get too big 😖

Faryal Waqar for both of my pregnancy I took a medicine called metformin, I’ve never taken insulin so I cannot give you any suggestion on that. I suggest you join a fb group named Gestational Diabetes Support Group, there are so many mamas there with experience of using insulin, they might be able to help you more on the experiences with insulins. One hour after meal 140 sugar is ok. Just nothing above that. Always talk to your doctors and maybe consult a couple mamas in the support groups to be sure if you have any doubts ! They are super helpful !

All that is crap serious you need to get to know your body and that menu is crap as well. Everyone is different stay away from toast. And for the record don’t eat fruit for your snack in the morning so that’s a lie as well. Stay away from fast food. Use coconut oil and fried chicken is a big NO NO!! If you are going to do a video and help others don’t tell lies about what is good for them. SMH

MollY ME Who should I trust? Kaiser Permanente dietitian or you ? I think I’ll pick KP dietitian over you, they have years of experience on helping GD pregnancy mamas. Wheat toast with low carb are perfectly fine for you, you just gotta read the labels and see how many carbs each serving like I mentioned in the video. Fruits are ok as long as they are not high sugar fruit, small portion are good for you, you cannot avoid all carbs, your baby does need carb to grow as well. I’m not saying to eat fried chicken 24/7 but pregnant mamas will have cravings once in a while, and fried chicken is better than fries and hamburgers since it’s lower on carbs. Nothing in my video is a lie, everything is based on my experience and what I learned. My baby was born 7.5lbs and healthy bc I controlled my diet well. Instead of telling ppl their experiences are lie, maybe be more open and learn more about different food women can eat during GD and it would still be ok. No one can diet and eat 100% healthy. This video is to help GD mama to get an idea what they can eat and still not spike their numbers. I’m not 100% perfect, we are all human and will have cravings during pregnancies, it’s about how to control your number while still trying to eat what makes you happy.
