My best friend/brother in law dated a girl just like this. She hated his whole family especially my wife and her younger sister despite them being nothing but nice to her (Ironically she liked BIL's older sister despite her being very nasty to her). Eventually it all broke down when she found out my family owned the home he lived in and not him or his family so she flipped out claiming that she had been scammed and how she only dated him for his money. Little did she know 3 months after she broke up with BIL my mother would sell him the house so it was his.

Story 1: I live in NYC. Lived there for 29 years or my entire life. NYC is expensive and if she is living in a good area to go to school so most likely goes to NYU and lives in Midtown Manhattan where the cost of living is mind boggling. the face that she pays $2800 in rent only is crazy that only $200 short of mine. and as for all the other expenses it adds up to be the right amount for her to live barely comfortably. Now the gf is sounding like a gold digger. OP makes $200k a year, and she makes less than $20k a year. she only pays for groceries while OP subsidizes everything else for them. If she can only afford groceries and is supposed to be paying student loans and putting money aside for a house, that is literally dividing her checks in to 3; $500 in each place and she's broke. She needs to do better. OP is NTA.

1) It is nice of OP to help out his family, girl friend is selfish and heartless and really has no say over how OP spends his money, it's not like he isn't saving towards a house or isn't paying his fair share of expenses. It's not like OP will be supporting his sister forever, she is in school and has expenses she can not meet on her own for now. NTA. After update: It's sad to find out girlfriend is selfish and overly controlling. OP should be glad to learn how she feels, before getting married to her. Sometimes the trash takes itself out, and it seems like OP dodged a bullet to learn now not to waste any more time with this heartless gold digger. So glad OP made her his X. 2) It's only a first date, OP should just bring himself. The thing to do on a date is to have fun, and to get the chance to talk and get to know each other better. After update: OP needs to slow down. This may be infatuation on his part, and she may just be comfortable with him but not be thinking of some long term commitment. It is probably too soon, because this his first ever relationship and he is so inexperienced. Maybe she is the right one, but more likely timing is not right for this to be forever.

FIRST DATE: Keep one thing in mind, many gals some thought were “out of their league” stayed home a lot because many didn’t have your courage to ask. If you ask her about her family, her hobbies, etc….she’s likely to talk some & you can just listen, keeping eye contact so she knows you are listening. Then, when it’s your turn to talk, you can talk about or question what she told you. Does she like to travel? has she traveled & where, etc? Schooling & sports or fav types of movies? Just a few topics to help with conversation flow if you need. You seem like a good young man…. Just a little tip, on a date, being a gentleman is AWESOME! After opening the car door for me on a first date once, he leaned in & put my seatbelt on me, winked & said “precious cargo”, I swear before I knew what I was doing I kissed him (somehow managed not to jump him rt then), & I reached over to unlock his door. We dated for years & stayed friends til he died, but what he did that night stayed with me always.

In the first story, I was open the possibility of the sister abusing her family's help, until OP mentioned how much rent and transportation were. The amount the family gives her doesn't even cover the rent portion. So I think it's safe to say that the family money goes to rent and she covers the rest on her own. Otherwise, I would have asked OP to go over the sister's budget to ensure she's not taking advantage. GF was awfully presumptuous making claims on OP's money. I was so proud of OP when he doubled down on the "Yes" to the parents living with them. Glad that GF is gone and now OP can find someone who actually shares his values, instead of valuing his shares.

Good thing they broke up. The GF is obviously showing signs of being financially abusive and was trying to isolate op from his family

I can think of a few things that would be wrong, but that is a matter of circumstances that don't seem to apply here.

But but but she deserves all his money! /s She’s so embarrassingly self absorbed and entitled, I wouldn’t want to date someone like her either.

I agree I’m out of college while my little sister is at the end of her high school career. I’m going to do my best to put her through school

The sister of OP in story 1 is going to be up for a rude wake up call when she graduates and suddenly her family isnt paying for everything. Most students have a part time job, and these guys are seemingly covering all her base expenses so jer part time job just seems to be "fun money". Which isnt a bad thing! I wish more students could have that, but it isnt the norm GF sucks but i feel like the family has been babying that girl-- i have no stake in that family beyond a reddit story so i hopefully cant be branded a gold digger

GOLD-DIGGER GF I agree with OP in his stance on things, with one exception. If OP is married, with or without children if his parents want to move in for their retirement this is a decision between his wife and him. Most of the extra work having two other people around will fall on the wife. Whether OP likes it or not, the wife has the right to veto having his parents move in just as he has the right to veto whether her parents move in with them.

First story OP's gf thought she was the prize, like most girls, if you earn $186,000 a year your the prize!

If people were feeling old in their 20s, should try being in their mid 40s.
