Yes, I see people talking like Hashirama's dream has failed. But in reality, what he did was a huge step forward. Children still died but at a way lower rate, and that was only the ninja who left the village to go on dangerous missions or on the battlefield. Civilians became pretty safe and sound, which wasn't the case before Konoha was founded as they were also part of the high deaths rate. So yeah Hashirama and Madara didn't exactly created the safe haven they dreamed of but they came pretty close.

Well I mean Hashirama is the one who found Itama after he'd been presumably tortured for information(looked like it) before being killed by a gang of Uchiha, which was the last straw to push him into striving to create a Shinobi Village...and yet he didn't even blink at the fact that Madara was an Uchiha. I think Madara could have killed Tobirama himself and Hashirama still would have tried to make peace at that point since he always seemed to be focused on protecting Tobirama AND others whereas Madara was mostly only concerned with protecting Izuna.
