There are lots of little hints throughout the film, the 'glitches' are the gradual formation of Tyler as a separate entity, several times they reference that there is only Tyler, notably when he self-harms in his bosses office it reminds him of the first fight with Tyler, because it is the same - a self-harm fight. As for Marla, I think she is the initial catalyst to push him over the edge mentally and generate a distinct Tyler, but then as he interacts with her more she is the catalyst for his realisation of worth outside of self, the return of empathy - so Marla is the critical instigator and resolution factor in the psychosis of Tyler.

From all content-creators regarding reacting to movies I've found yours more 'real'. Your now Wifey is genuily not a nerdi from orginal - the growth of her interest the past few years man.... The view on plotholes and her going down the rabbilhole, it really warms my heart. mostly because every She understands what it is to be to be a nerdi ans makes me believe that the genre of imagination is for Everyone.

One of the best movies of the 90's. About it being visually dark, they actually made a separate physical print of the movie after release with silver nitrate, as there would be metal on the print which would more effectively block light and make the dark parts even darker when projected. And congrats with your marriage!

While the film is about a guy having an existential crisis, I think what gets largely overlooked about Fight Club is, the movie is very much about relationships and “Jack’s”(Ed Norton’s character, since his actual name isn’t revealed, was how they referred to his character on set, to avoid confusion), inability to form any sort of relationship or attachment with virtually anyone except maybe Bob, but that was largely completely under false pretenses. The character wanted to have relationships, but didn’t have the ability to do it in a healthy way and most often substituted hate or anger in those situations, to avoid opening himself to being vulnerable in any way, so he has to create his own imaginary friend to have any kind of connection with someone. Then he uses his Tyler personality to have an unhealthy relationship with Marla, and all of the cult he creates, but even then, Jack gets jealous of Jared Leto’s character’s relationship with Tyler and reacts with anger. At the end, you feel his biggest psychological breakthrough is Jack starting to be able to have some sort of honest relationship with himself and killing Tyler is him eliminating his “buffer” he created to have any kind of relationships with other people, most importantly Marla, he’s accepting the responsibility and vulnerability that he previously used Tyler to shield him from. Also, the car crash scene is very important, because it’s almost like him paying some sort of penance for being morally and ethically compromised working at the car company, by putting himself through what so many of the people he had written off as “part of the formula” who lost their lives, had experienced. So, essentially, the film is about Jack finding a way to try to regain his humanity, that was lost in his broken home growing up and his strive for success in our modern consumerism culture. He uses Tyler to put himself through extreme situations, to rediscover his own empathy and reteach himself how to connect with other people and what is important to him in life.

15:08 Yeah, if you really wanna meet a really messed up person, look up the guy who wrote the book "Fight Club". His name is Chuck Palahniuk. Very nice guy. And this line, Marla says here was ad-libbed. The original line was something along "I hope, I´m pregnant. Because I really wanna have your abortion!" And the studio wasn´t too happy with that one. And when Bonham-Carter said the other line, they were all like "Erm.... Can we perhaps go back to the abortion line?" lol But Fincher kept it in. I love these stories. Palahniuk talked about it on Joe Rogan´s podcast!

Hope you have/had a great wedding. I hope you will soon come back with "my wife watches.." soon, but enjoy your honeymoon! Fight club is a great movie, and I would reccomend actually watching it a second time. Why? With knowledge of Tyler and narrator(I read comments in other places saying his name is jack, because of the many qoutes similar to "I'm Jack's complete lack of surprise") is the same person, it's a total different movie! I love that detail. You talked early in the reaction about the flickering. Watch the movie again, and it is Brad Pitt. My favourite quote from Fight club is “Advertising Has Us Chasing Cars And Clothes, Working Jobs We Hate So We Can Buy S*** We Don’t Need.”

one of the most ironic parts of the movie is when Tyler gives his "Middle Children of History" speech, he comments about how their generation had no great wars and no great depressions. Fight Club was released in 1999, so 9/11 occurred 2 years later, while the Great Recession occurred 9 years later. and ya, those events totally made the country (and the world) a much more stable place, and everyone gets along beautifully, while corporate greed has been eliminated... (heavy sarcasm)

I think part of what changes the dynamic has to do with war overstaying its welcome, so to speak, in the general public perception. US involvement in World War 1 and 2 (aka “The Great Wars”) combined are less than a decade. Consider how different the perception of them would have been if either one had dragged on for around 20 years. That’s pretty much where I think we are now, but with less of a cause to show for it.
@spacemonkeyentertainment6413
@spacemonkeyentertainment6413 2 жыл бұрын
It's less about actual wars (other than the symbolism of "aggression") than it is about complacency, just going along with things and the lack of motivation due to the absence of challenge -> No purpose. Just like the middle child is "just there", because it's not the oldest, hence first, which by default is special, but it's also not the most recent, you know, the one getting all the attention, because it needs more caring. So, if one doesn't stand out as the middle child by their accomplishments, at least in Tyler's (Brad Pitt) view, you're a nobody. The whole movie is a journey of finding purpose, Norton being afraid of change, because it might reflect badly on him in the eyes of other people, hence the secrecy about everything, while Pitt is the opposite, carefree and rebellious to the n-th degree - caution to the wind, go for it even if you blow yourself up. In the end Norton dials it back and finds a "healthy" balance and individuality for himself. It's not about great events, it's not about overcoming great hardship or facing death or struggle or whatever - yes, those things can be catalysts for "finding purpose", reasons to ask yourself "what do i actually really want ?" - but ultimately it is about empowerment in the "live your dream" way and if for you that is dancing to Rick Astley in your pyjamas, then that is what it is.

This was based off a short novel if any of you guys don't know. Found it at a library, read it in two days (wasn't sleeping well so that helped a shit-ton when reading 'Jacks' perspective); and this movie is a perfect 1 to 1 recreation- the prose, the quick line delivery mirrors the paragraph structure, every beat is on time. there is only one difference; there is one chapter about Marla and the Soap, and it was wild, definitely worth the read it if you've got the time and want to re-experience the story in a slightly more in depth way.

I had a similar internet connection “crisis”. I went between 5 to 6 months before anyone could provide us service. Hopefully you don’t have to deal with it for too long.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time. I was 14 years old when I first saw it, and I am 34 years old now and it still holds the measure;)

Why do I have a feeling Holden is gonna be making his normal innuendo jokes on the honeymoon well getting ready to or already engaged in honeymoon activities, lol. Love you two, Congrats and have a innuendo filled honeymoon.

Hahaha. Nowadays, I live in South Korea, but I was born and grow up in Uzbekistan. My friend back at home used to complain that not a single internet service provider has covered their recently constructed apartment building, and he used to say "I bet, somewhere in Europe or USA they don't have such problems". Well It seems he was wrong)
