I liked that Mayfeld A- had a moral compass after all, and B- killed everyone that saw Din's face, and basically swore not to tell anyone that he took his helmet off. "You did what you had to do. Kinda sad they talked over the part that setup Mando removing his helmet for the scanner. Mando told Mayfield if they don’t get access to that data, he’ll lose the kid forever. Then Mayfield told Din that the machine requires you to show your face, and he can’t do it because the officer knows who he is and might remember him. Then Din decides to do it for Grogu. He THEN tries to access the info without taking off his helmet, until he absolutely has to. But he does it. It makes Din’s choice way more meaningful, and completely changes the tone of the scene.

Clone Wars picks up not immediately after Attack of the Clones, it starts at a point where Jedi are now Generals in the war working with Clones, and early on Obi-Wan expresses concerns about Anakin settling into a life of war too easily, but he’s an effective soldier and general. He gets Ahsoka as his padawan partially because of how impulsive he can be as Ahsoka is also very gifted but hot-headed, so Anakin learns to be a better Jedi by having a padawan so similar to him. They also expertly weave around the timeline of the films so by the end it feels like a very organic story that heavily improves Anakin as a character
@tommyschroeder33364 жыл бұрын
Well spoken
@RandomGuy2854 жыл бұрын
I don't think it was necessarily about the personality of Ahsoka matching his (although that helps). I think they gave him a Padawan specifically to slow him down and make him think more. Nothing matures you quicker than now having someone you're responsible for taking care of. If one of his reckless, dangerous strategies backfires, it won't just be him that gets hurt anymore. I think they gave him Ahsoka specifically because she was advanced for her age, skill wise. They gave him someone that could still keep up with him when necessary, but also someone young enough to make him concerned about her safety.
@KnowYourMarvelNews4 жыл бұрын
RandomGuy285 I agree with all that, but I’m pretty sure Yoda specifically mentioned either in the movie or one of the early season 1 episodes that it was at least partially because Ahsoka was so similar to him. It was also for all the reasons you mention. Maybe I’m misremembering that, but I swore it was specifically mentioned at some point for why it was Ahsoka specifically that was chosen to be his padawan. Either way, it works lol, and Ahsoka and Anakin really are some of the best SW characters in large part to Clone Wars
@obesebird4 жыл бұрын
The first season and a half of clone wars being aimed at kids doesn’t make it bad, it’s just as the show went on the audience grew up and the stories got darker and also more interesting. But if you think about it the original trilogy is also “aimed at kids”, so it’s not bad, it’s just the more involved storylines happen after about halfway through the second season and then it’s 5 seasons of ranging from ok (aka jar jar or r2d2 and c3po episodes which there are few) to best Star Wars arcs ever. Only thing I will say is that the clone wars movie is a little rough but it’s also the first introduction to ahsoka and the beginning of the series, so they were still kind of laying the groundwork for what the series would ultimately become.
@acdragonrider4 жыл бұрын
Correct. Star Wars is a family adventure and George Lucas has said this many times. We have to keep that in mind even though we often want darker things. In my case, I have always liked the prequels because I feel they are more complex than the originals.

I keep hearing Holden ask who's funding the Empire. The Empire is. The Empire may have lost a lot of its power, but it isn't powerless. The Star Wars galaxy is a huge star-scape and the Empire holds sway over many rich and influential planets even now. In fact the planet in Ep. 7 is part of the way the Empire gets its funding. Its a secret mining facility where they procure that explosive compound. While the Empire surely uses much of what's taken from there, they also most likely sell some of it as well, thus putting credits in Imperial coffers. You can be sure that, besides many obvious revenue streams from the planets they still control outright, the Empire has several other secret operations going on that give them considerable credit flow.

This comment does not contain spoilers. The Clone Wars movie is probably the hardest to get through... but it's not *terrible.* None of The Clone Wars or Rebels is *terrible.* Just understand, Ashoka is a fan favorite character for a reason. And also understand that it took an entire series of multiple seasons to develop her that way. So don't go expecting to like her right away. As for watch order, watch all of Clone Wars, seasons 1-7. Then watch Rebels. The release order is TCW 1-6, Rebels, TCW 7. But the reason for that break was due to internal politics, not story telling (unlike the movie order). So just watch all of TCW, then watch all of Rebels. Chronological order of everything in case you're curious: - Episode II - The Clone Wars Movie - The Clone Wars seasons 1-6 - Episode III / The Clone Wars season 7 (they happen at the same time, this isn't a spoiler) - Rebels (Omitting details here for spoiler reasons) - The Mandalorian - The Force Awakens Whichever you choose to watch won't matter. Just as long as you pick one and stick with it rather than jumping around. So if you watch TCW, don't go watching The Force Awakens in between seasons or something.

Mando taking off his helmet in the Imperial Refinery calls back to what Bill Burr's character says earlier in the episode. "Everyone's got their line they don't cross until things get desperate". Mando is so desperate to save Grogu that he'll do anything including giving up his creed in that moment of not revealing his face. His love for Grogu is more important. As far as the "funding" of the Empire. I take it as even though the death star was destroyed, and the Rebels technically won, the remnants of the Empire are strong enough that they can still survive and pillage communities in smaller numbers. They just go into places and take what they need/want by force, so they don't really need funding per say? Just my thought path on that.

There is one important thing when you watch the clone wars: You should not watch it in release order, but in chronological order. The arguments of people that say Release is better are mostly only that 'it's easier' or that you can see how the quality improves over time. Imo those arguments are BS. These arcs partially build on one another, the character development is more consistent and you will form way more emotional connections to the characters (Example to those who watched it: Domino Squad). Let's be real here. Having a good, more coherent story that builds on itself is more important than seeing at one or two points that this episode has a little worse Animation quality than the episode before. Especially since from season 4 on Release is = Chronological for the most part (only a few exceptions). There is even a chronological list on the OFFICIAL star wars website (you dont need more proof on how the makers WANT people to watch the show). It has some really weak arcs and starts out a bit.. special, but from season 3-4 it really picks up and contains some of the greatest star wars!

Respectfully Holden, to put episode 7 in the episodes 1 & 2 category is a bit unfair. This episode you get clean and green Boba Fett, The Empire gets to be the good guys in an epic moment and saves the day, Mando takes off his helmet bc of his love for Grogu, Mayfield has an epic scene at the table, Mayfield has the best sniper shot in the history of Star Wars, and we get to see that ion thing from the boba’s ship that we haven’t seen since episode 2. All new character building things and call-backs to the good stuff. Can’t wait to see clone wars! Edit: I saw a thing (not my idea so I don’t take credit for it) saying that Mando took his helmet off bc he wanted to see Grogu with his own eyes just as Vader wanted to see Luke with his own eyes when he took off his mask. To answer the question of who’s funding this well let’s get really boring about it. The empire ruled almost the entire galaxy for quite a while so they had saved up a LOT OF TAX MONEY and after the destruction of the second Death Star that didn’t all magically vanish. The remaining captains and warlords also still wanted to keep there power so even if they did not have money many of the warlords and other imperial leaders would want to keep fighting for power over the galaxy, also clearly the empire still has some territories remaining to enslave and/or tax during this time frame in Star Wars not to mention they have much much less ships and men to pay now, and in the final episode they make it clear the empire is short on money considering they have to keep the dark troopers powered off to save on costs. So there that’s the long boring political answer.

You’re not wrong about Anakin not being ready to be a Knight. In the OTHER Clone Wars cartoon, the one made Dexter’s Lab and Samurai Jack creator Genndy Tartakovsky, and that made in between Episodes II and III, there is a scene where the Jedi Council debate on whether or not to Knight Anakin; some felt he wasn’t ready, while thought if he was the Chosen One he should be let loose and that he had gone through many of the passages required for Knighthood, and the latter clearly won out. Now, The Clone Wars (CGI) is canon but Clone Wars (Genndy) is not so clear, some parts have referenced in The Clone Wars, so some parts of it is canon but maybe not all of it.
@Vandicoup4 жыл бұрын
Nearly all of Genndy’s CW isn’t canon and yes, that little reference there in the final arc of the TCW does make bits and pieces of Genndy’s CW canon but as a whole, Genndy’s CW is officially not canon, as per Lucasfilm and Disney’s announcements back in 2014 when they first bought SW and declared all the movies + TCW show only being canon moving forward with everything else being made after TCW, such as the Sequels/new books/comics/games/etc, being canon as well of course.

As someone who has grown up with TCW since the movie came out, I personally don’t like any lists like that. Some of the best episodes of the entire TCW show are in the “Don’t” category. Every episode of TCW is worth a watch, including the movie that started it all. You never know what someone will love and what someone will not love, I want to see them go through the entire journey as they will appreciate the show a whole lot more and be introduced to some all time great characters like Hondo, Cad Bane and others. Some of those “TCW guides” are utter rubbish, imho, as they literally cut the show in half when it comes to “essential episodes/arcs.” Yes, a lot of TCW doesn’t matter in terms of the main Star Wars saga canon, but a lot of those episodes are still tons of fun and help expand the hell out of the universe while also giving more depth and story behind a lot of fan favorite characters such as Anakin, Ahsoka, Cad Bane, Hondo and more. Watch the entire journey and see what and who you end up loving. When it comes to The Clone Wars, it’s all worth the wait, in my eyes. 🥺🙏🏼

This season was exceptionally written and produced. It's episodic side stories are what makes it work. Most sci-fi, fantasy, comic genre shows went crazy in recent years with long story arcs that interest wanes quickly and if you stick with it they often disappoint in the end after several seasons of waiting. This show disguises the longer arc with the short character studies that make the most sense when reflected on after the season is over. The first season was all about Mando trying his hardest to stay true to the way and proving himself worthy. In each episode of the 2nd season everything he thought he gained and what he wanted to be and how he perceived others in the first is being challenged and torn down. Culminating in the Bill Burr episode. He comes to know that there is no single "way" and that the path he found himself meant giving up everything else and he was okay with that. Making the finale that much more emotionally charged. Some things will make way more sense after Clone Wars and Rebels. Especially Ahsoka and why fans were so excited about seeing her here. Bo Katan as well. To some extent where she was during the OT as well.
@tofton19774 жыл бұрын

You don't have to be an Official Master to take on a Padawan. Obi wan was promoted from Padawan to Jedi Knight after beating Darth Maul and immediately took Anakin as a Padawan. You actually become a Master when you train a Padawan to Knighthood.

Grogu was at the Jedi Temple being trained during the Prequels. That means he probably had run ins with Obi-Wan and Anakin. That also probably means he had run ins with R2-D2. So when R2-D2 came in and he seemed excited to see Grogu and then Grogu held his arms up for Luke, that was probably a reunion instead of an introduction and what showed Grogu that he was truly safe going with Luke.

Heya Holden and Jen! Something to keep in mind, there was an original Clone Wars cartoon by Gendy Tartakovsky (of Samurai Jack fame) that came out before the Dave Filoni Clone Wars cartoon. They were all 2 minute shorts, and the first season of that began right after Episode II. The end of that first season shows Anakin being knighted and C-3PO getting his gold plating. The first season of the Dave Filoni Clone Wars cartoon begins a few months after those original shorts are over, and though you don't need to have watched them to understand the story, that is where the elevation of Anakin to Jedi Knight actually occurs.

Everybody says that the first few seasons of clone wars is childish. I very much so disagree. I think that most people watched the movie, saw that that was childish (which it was) and judged the whole show based on that. That's what I did for a long time. I also think that another problem that people have with the early seasons is that it started out as an anthology series. So you'd get snippets of different events happening out of order. In later seasons it becomes much more linear. This is why a lot of people recommend watching in the chronological order. But my belief is that if you know it's an anthology, you can easily follow the show in release order and be totally fine. Though I will say that chronologically watching does make it easier to follow the entire overarching story of the movies and series as a whole, ie. Anakin's journey to the dark side, where the clones that are named in the movies are from and how they got there, the rise of the separatists and so on. Thanks for the videos. Here's to hoping you decide to jump into The Clone Wars. It's seriously a game changer.

I am 20 and have been one of the new Star Wars fans that got introduced to SW through TCW when I was 8 years old back in 2008, and I can personally say, that after watching the entire show plus the movie twice, watching it in chronological order doesn’t really make a difference whatsoever, imho. Of course there’s noticeable timeline inconsistencies, I won’t deny that, but Filoni and crew were aware of this and did their very best to make sure the entire release order is as seamless as possible and they did a pretty damn good job at it as I can barely notice any inconsistencies. If you don’t look and focus too hard on certain..uh...lines and characters, then watching the show in release order isn’t bad either! :)
