This configuration of acrylic tofu 65 has to be one of my favourites when it comes to luring my friends into the hobby 😈
With the budget-friendly yet buttery-smooth milky gateron yellows, it's hard to go back to membrane boards after this.

This is also partly due to the board he is typing on. The Alu plate is relatively neutral, and when paired with the Acrylic case (+ the Keycap material / profile) the sound will be MUCH different than a similar metal case build. Also the recording can be another variable, yadadadadada. Definitely keep this in mind when listening to sound tests!

I’m not sure how true this is but lubed ga yellows with trybosis 3204 are relatively thocky but it rly depends on plate and case

Probably cause the acrylic case make a more muted and less pitch sound than a aluminum case.

to fu 65 is still such a good board imo, i have multiple keeb builds that cost me over 1k and i still use my tofu 65 for gaming and wont ever sell it, just like my utd 356 mini, polaris, vega

Love the acrylic tofu. I got the gateron yellow pros on it, but it seems like the milkys sound a little better. I do not feel like unsoldering though 😩 dope video!

What PCB? afaik the KBD67 PCB has switch LEDs but not underglow LEDs. Great video - keeb sounds awesome!

If you add the shipping and the import fees because KBDFans declare up to the last cent for shipping, this ends up being a board of around 250$, which for many, is definitely not entry level if you add another 100-200$ for switches, keycaps and stabs. But definitely a very nice mid-range board. Wanted one for ages, but for me, another 65% board is just a whim I cannot justify lol.

Hey man do you have a solder fume extractor off camera? The fumes from the solder are heading towards you 5:25 and there is a chance you could inhale it. Best of health, man. Awesome video ^^

Hey Slime, I do have a fume extractor/purifier that I use for soldering. I usually film the first couple joints without the purifier for the clean aesthetics, but I put it on right after for the rest of the joints! Thanks for worrying about my health 💛

Tbh, my gk61 with lubed gateron yelllows and durock plate mounts, steel plate and lots of foam sounds almost the exact same. Just that yours sound a little more clacky:)

PBT is the key, any mid range pbt is better than GMK

@@houghwhite411 pbt is the most affordable keycap. But there are 3 well known keycaps, abs, wich is the budget one, pbt, which is the little bit more expensive but most affordable one and then gmk wich is the most expensive but highest quallity. I have never had any gmks but im kinda sure they would feel and sound better than my pbts. a thing many dont know too is that gmks often are made of same plastic as abs

Such a clean build. I finally made my first order of some switches and also the preorder for the gmmk pro a couple of days ago, and I hate to say it, but I haven’t stopped ordering keeb parts since...I’m hooked and it’s scary. Hahaha about to order this now as well, and wanting your opinion. Do you suggest to go with a soldered build or hot swap? I have no problem soldering if it’s worth it for feel and long term reliability, but I do like the option of easy switch swapping. Cheers!

welcome to the hobby! I prefer solder PCBs in general, but when it comes to acrylic tofu, I go for kbd67rev2 solder pcbs since they have nice underglow LEDs. The hotswap dz65rgbv2 by kbdfans doesnt have underglow, only per-key lighting. Doesn't fully show off the acrylic case imo. happy building!

@@JaeyouPark appreciate the response and help. The kit I’m looking into has the kbd67rev2 solder, so I’ll just stick with that and enjoy the soldering process in that build. Now it’s just a matter of deciding between a few switches I’m interested in, and if I want to do a pc plate for sound and feel, or a brass with o-ring mod for mostly aesthetics. Haha the freedom and variety in this hobby is unreal, and I dig it. Thanks again!

Just started using the one I bought from you back in January lol. Feels MAD nice to type on man. Tofu 65 acrylic with black gateron inks(?). I forget the specs tbh. Would getting ABS keycaps make the typing experience better? I'm using some HK gaming PBT keycaps at the moment.

Haha nice! ABS tends to be clackier in sound, so if that’s something you like! Imo typing experience is mostly to do with keycap profiles (height and shape) when it comes to keycaps rather than materials

Hi! Did you use some special foam pieces between pcb and plate? They are seen on corners of the plate. There are no plates with these foam corners. Did you you add it yourself? Thanks in advance! Nice video)

Do you find yourself ever needing to fiddle with levelling the stabilizer wires? I feel like every single time I get stock stabilizers or I buy them from a 3rd party, I need to level them myself or there's always constant ticking.

Is the case illumination just from the rgb leds at the switches or are there additional leds below/beside the pcb? Would every pcb with rgb for the keys have this effect in the case?

hey, im about to buy the the tofu 60 acrylic frosted case and i want to know if the pcb as it displays on the website comes with the case. If not can you tell me a good cheap pcb that has underglow and is compatible with it. i would also like to know what plate is compatible. thanks.
