Daughter of the Forest is one of my favorite books of all time (which is crazy because I did almost DNF it in the beginning). I feel like if you love Uprooted by Naomi Novik you'll love the nature-y vibe of DotF.

I do love Uprooted! Can't wait to read it!

I challenged myself to a 24 in 2024 list and managed 18, so 6 unfortunately roll on to the 2025 list. All the best with your book!

A nonfiction I enjoyed recently was Code Dependent: Living in the Shadow of AI by Madhumita Murgia. It focuses about the effects of AI technologies in various domains of life (healthcare, social policy, criminal justice) on already marginalized populations, from training these systems, to piloting them, to the execution of them. I don't know that it's QUITE as good as braiding sweetgrass because that's a high bar, but I think it similarly provides a more philosophical/ethical/humanistic lens to a domain that is usually more academic/jargony.

I'm so happy to have discovered your channel in December. You quite literally exude sunshine. I am also so inspired to do your Read Around the World challenge. Excited to read with you in 2025 :)

We do stick around and then rewatch so that we can comment. 😅😅😅 You read 200 books 🎉 wow! I managed 15. Still struggling with A Little Life 😅 So excited for what you have in store this year. Also, your reading around the world journal should definitely blow up this year. It’s so cool. Can’t wait to read your books. Excited for your vlogs and other videos.

Those are some great goals, good luck on your writing journey! Personally I can’t set yearly reading priorities bc I have no idea what I’ll want to read in like September lol, but yours was a great list! Definitely confirms you’re a booktuber I should be following bc we seem to have similar taste! Daughter of the Forest is an all time fav for me (strong nature writing, compelling sibling relationships, and a sweet romance) and The Lathe of Heaven was a fav from last year, definitely one of Le Guin’s most interesting concepts, and the plot escalation is fantastic! If you’re looking for something else to add I’ve seen The Luminaries in the bg of a couple of your videos, idk if you’ve already read it, but I’m reading it right now and highly recommend, has a unique story structure that’s really gripping and easy to get through despite its length.
@LydLoves12 күн бұрын
Thanks so much! The Luminaires is a great idea to add to the list, because it's an intimidating one that I'm not sure I will get to if I don't prioritise it!

Awesome goals...I read only 10% of what you do and when you read a very limited amount every year it's always difficult to pick and choose, but I love that process... All the best for your writing as well as your channel goals! Oh btw - At the start of the video I went 'oh nice hairstyle', so imagine my surprise at the end...😅

I feel the same way about a lot of the arcs and books i was sent last year, they were just kind of fine! I really want to have a "better" reading year this year and part of that is going to be focusing on backlist books I'm sure I will love, rather than reading a lot of advance copies

Great list that you will find some favorites. You must read I Capture the Castle; you will love it. Sophie's World was really eye opening and would be for any young girl. You will learn a lot. I also have Wide Sargasso Sea to read this year. Gives us a head's up on your reading list each month so we can follow along if we have that book also. Love the turtle clip!

For nonfiction with a similar vibe i suggest How to Do Nothing by Jenny Odell. I think the title and description kind of misrepresent this book and make you think it's like a typical get off the internet self help book but it's really more about connecting with the world and community around you.
@LydLoves12 күн бұрын
Wow you're right this sounds great actually, and the title would have put me off! I'll add to my list

I'm currently reading Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer. It's not going to help you with your page count much. It's only about 200 pages. But, it's really quite affecting. I've cried a couple times already.

Why do you bother finishing books that you really hate if you really don’t like a book if it really doesn’t talk to you and it’s fiction I think a few chapters. If it doesn’t then I don’t waste the rest of my tongue.
