You don't own anything to your parents. It was their job as your parents to provide for you
@andrepalomaro35314 күн бұрын
This is true, if you feel like your parents do a good job then you are free to show your gratitude by taking care of them but, their own retirement is still their responsibility. You dont expect your kids to take care of you, not in America, in America you are your own responsibility and spending and saving irresponsibly so your children are affected and obligated to care for you? That can be seen as a failure as a parent. You should be giving your children the best chances of success, not depending on them to support you
@RedditFamilyTales14 күн бұрын
This view is valid in some ways, parents have a responsibility to provide for their children. However, gratitude isn’t about "owing" them; it’s about recognizing their efforts and sacrifices. Relationships thrive on mutual respect and love, not obligations. Giving back is a way to show appreciation, not pay a debt.

I dont think he’s actually saying she’s not pretty or whatever, “So called trophy wife” could imply he is referring to the absurdity of using a phrase like that which is seen as mysoginistic in a modern context. In short he is pointing out that the use of the phrase is weird, either because its false, or because it’s considered offensive

Wild to me that people can bring a life into this world (without their consent) and raise them to believe that they should be compensated for providing basic needs. I procreated, It is my responsibility and privilege to provide (at bare minimum) the basic necessities for my children to survive (to say nothing of thriving or achievement)
@UnderworldTalesss14 күн бұрын
In my day, we didn’t expect to be thanked for just doing our job as parents-it was simply what was done. But I also see how times have changed. Raising a child today requires so much more, and there’s a lot of pressure on parents. Some are simply doing their best, even if it doesn’t feel like enough. Providing food, shelter, and care is the absolute minimum, but it takes a village to raise a child properly
@Benjamin-zp5ds9 күн бұрын
@@UnderworldTalesssno nothing in this world costs as much as raising kids. If you can afford to have kids don't have them. But don't go expecting your kids to pay you back for raising them when YOU chose to keep them.

This story sounds ultra fishy to me. Like, OOP can’t understand the reason to keep going to these family meet ups? I think I know why, either the story is fake, or OOP obviously revels in their ignorance of his financial success. He’s talking about how he finds it hard to talk about his career because he thinks his parents and family wouldn’t approve? Are you kidding? Even the most strict tiger or African parents if their child went into a field like IT that was new, innovative, ubiquitous, in-demand, and earned a lot of money, and owned his own company which sold for hundreds of thousands if not a million or more would have nothing to say in disapproval. Story just makes no sense and sounds very fake.

@ThorsHammer-dy6ri14 күн бұрын
he did say in the story that he had told them multiple times before that he didn't work there anymore because the store had closed in 2011, they just kept not listening. He probably gave up telling them at some point and let them assuming what they'd already been told wasn't true multiple times because it was easier than constantly correcting them.
@andrepalomaro35314 күн бұрын
Dawg he cleary tried to tell them but the family created their own narrative constantly. OP says they told their family the comic book store closed down in 2011, but they only believed what suits them over time, they remember what they wanted to, what fit their worldview and opinion of their kid
