My Mom n Dad would play this along with Al Green and BB King when they had Compny over n everyone drankin, which was always the best time for all of us kids to act out, and get money to run to the corner store! lol! We had us some good ole times at cookouts, crab boils, church BBQs, block parties in the summertime, family reunions, and all the rest ❤️ by the time the sun was down, all the grown folk was drinking, dancing or play Pinochle or a combination of all three! You are right, that was always the best time to ask for pocket money or make plans to go fishing 🤣 ❤️ love and light

My Dad loved to fish and would pile all 9 kids in the back of the ol station wagon, along with no seat belts, fishing rods, tackle box, cooler n all and haul us all to Legg Lake, ! 😆Time seems to move in slo-mo when you're a kid growing up. We thought we had a lifetime to just be a kid and watch and learn from the grown folk on how to just enjoy good music and good food! Jay, (maybe Amber too), if you've ever listened to Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together," she references this song in the lyrics. "If You Think You're Lonely Now" was released in 1981 from Bobby's album The Poet. The single reached #3 for four weeks on the Hot Soul Singles chart. The song's success was significant because he had released it during a time when the charts were largely dominated by dance music. Great reaction to a classic!!!

A true soul singer, great choice. Womack has many terrific songs to review: Across 110th Street, That's the Way I Feel 'Bout Cha, Harry Hippie, A Woman's Gotta Have It, Nobody Wants You When You're Down and Out, Daylight, Don't Wanna Be Hurt By Your Love Again -- all great songs. He was also part of the Valentine Brothers, who did the original version of 'I Can Understand It,' also a great tune.

A soul legend! Among other achievements, he was touring with Sam Cooke when he was *10* (along with his brothers) and he wrote The Rolling Stones's first-ever UK #1 "It's All Over Now" before he turned 20. "Across 110th Street" is calling out to me. (And I bet I'm not the only one.)

The Womack brothers grew up in church, and when they started singing, they were singing gospel music, so Amber is on the money when she says Bobby's sound has a gospel feel to it!

Bobby Womack was Sam Cook's bestfriend. He married Cook's widow after Cook died and that didn't set well with his family, Cook's family or the music world. Folks loved Sam Cook and it took Bobby Womack a long time to come back after that. He's originally from my hometown Cleveland!

The story behind the song is that a producer he was working with was one the phone with his lady. The phone conversation was very heated. Before the man hung up, he told her this, "If you think you're lonely now, wait until tonight!!!!" Bobby Womack got himself a song!!!!

Bobby womack…so underrated! Great stuff! A Sam Cook protégé…you can sometimes here some sam in his delivery. A lot of people didn’t approve when he married Sam’s widow. Bobby also played the Wah guitar parts on Sly and the Family Stone’s ‘family affair’. Also…theres a video on youtube of the recording of Todd Rundgren’s ‘the want of a nail’ with bobby on it. One of my mom's favorites ... she would tell the story of how she and her cousin would sit around listening to this song while sharing beers and just "Ohhhh" and rock to the music, thinking Bobby Womack was saying, "Wait until tonight, you won't be lonely when I come home to you." It took a male friend to tell them, "Listen to those lyrics" before they understood he was actually saying something very different! She still loved the song, though!
