Please credit the two individuals responsible for this song - and for the “Philly Sound” - Ken Gamble and Leon Huff. It’s a lot more than Billy Paul- it’s MFSB. Listen to Lou Rawls, The O’Jays, the Three Degrees, The Spinners. The magic of mixing Black R &B and White Classical Orchestral arrangements represents a beautiful mixture of multi cultural experience. It all came together in the 1970s. Perhaps it took the awful events of the 1960s and the struggles of our civil rights movement to produce this beauty, but we have it the cherish forever.

Y’all are funny! The title says clearly, ‘Me and Mrs.Jones’, (Rob said miss 😆), Billy clearly sings ‘Mrs. Jones’ multiple times throughout, & it gets to the end, & we finally see the title correctly & get the premise to the song. It’s the ‘70’s, which to some degree, was a time of sexual revolution or liberation, which often took taboo or edgy topics like adultery, & romanticized them through sensual instrumentation with passionate vocal work & style. Another comes to mind called, If Lovin You is Wrong, I don’t Wanna Be Right. Lots of energy in your reaction. 👍

A radio station I worked for was holding a dinner show at a restaurant in Deptford, New Jersey years ago. While we were there, word spread that Billy Paul was having dinner at a table in the other room. I never do this kind of thing… But my friend and I approached him at his table and sheepishly said it was an honor to meet him and told him that we loved his music. He was with a big group of friends but graciously took a moment to thank us. Then we left him alone, thrilled to have met him but slightly embarrassed for having bothered him. Well to our great surprise… and delight, about an hour later he came strolling into our room, walked over to our table and took a seat right down next to! He sat there for 15 or 20 minutes and watched a few songs with us! It was one of the classiest coolest things I’ve ever seen a celebrity do. Afterward, he posed for a picture with the two of us, shook our hands and left the restaurant. It is such a great memory. Rest in peace, Billy.

Had the privilege of being introduced to the man as he was chilling at a local club a few years back....before we lost him.

Oh, I loved this song back in '72! The production, the vocals, the whole atmosphere is electric. They HAD to know they had a hit on their hands and indeed, this song went to Number One. Again, I was eleven so too young to really understand, but the song has such a longing and an emotion, that even when you can't put your finger on it, it still moves you. Give "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" by Roberta Flack (also from '72) a listen. That one will hot you hard.

Absolutely love love love the vibe of song❤️ One of my favorites of all time, and I think others feel the same!! Not too long ago was in a nice little antique store, I was the only shopper and this song was playing when I walked in, I was quietly singing along and loved it, feeling so lucky to hav3 walked in at the right time …… them it played again, and again…. And again!! I think the owner of the sop loved it too😉. I could listen to it all day long too!! So happy you got to react to it! Now go listen again!!

If you liked this, you'll probably like Berry White "Practice What You Preach" or "I'm Gonna Love You Just a Little More, Baby" , The Floaters "Float On" and Teddy Pendergrass "Close The Door". Awesome reaction. Sending good vibes!

Such a great voice and delivery! Evidently, getting coffee at the cafe is so much better than getting a plastic cup of coffee at the drive-thru. :)

You two would have loved the '70s, it's a great song and there were plenty of ones like that during that decade. I suggest that you check out 'The Chi-Lites' (pronounced Shy-lights) two of their songs in particular, 'Have You Seen Her' and 'It's Time For Love', for a faster more dance type of track by them, please check out 'You Don't Have To Go'.

An all time great song and one of my favorites. Shout out to the mega production team of Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff (Gamble and Huff) who produced and wrote this song, which was inspired by someone they both new that was having and affair. They produced so many hits for The O'Jays, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, Teddy Pendergrass and more with their Philly Soul Sound. They definitely new how to make great music, especially with this one.
