I've been looking for an Australian dev to follow on KZbin and have just watched all your videos, the content is exactly the stuff I've been looking for! I work in film and TV and since the start of Covid have been teaching myself to code (frontend) to jump careers as this interests me a lot. I'm now at the stage of building my CV and portfolio to apply, keep up the videos!

Hi Andrew nice video! Thank you for sharing :) I'm going on my first year of engineering in UoA this year, could you possibly make a video of your general studying tips or techniques/ how you got into deans list for your first year of engineering? I'm sure it would help a lot of first-year students :)

Very much possible bro.Start with the basics of coding ,get familiar with it,get admitted to college and of course major in CS or other related fields, work on some good projects so as to get a quality resume and you're good to go.

Wooow it's extremely impressing that you managed to have the highest marks and in the same time be an intern, do personal projects and attend clubs. How did you do that? 😅

I think prioritisation was a big factor. In my first two years of uni when I didn't have much experience in coding, I spent a lot of time getting my grades up as I wanted to use that as a differentiating factor when applying for my first internship. Once I got my first internship and was looking to apply for bigger companies, I switched my focus onto projects to showcase more practical software engineering skills. Finally, once I had a big name like Google on my CV, it was a lot easier getting interviews at other companies so I rounded off my uni by investing more of my time into growing clubs :) Obviously you can try balance everything at once... but that would probably be unrealistically hard. So focus your energy on the most important thing at the time

Early on, focus on learning the course content at uni and doing personal projects to improve on becoming a better software engineer in general. Once you're eligible for internships (usually penultimate year), start putting more focus towards things like Leetcode and Hackerrank to optimize for the interview process :) DM me if you want to chat more !
