My Grandfathers Father purchased this little single shot .22 from the Eaton’s catalog when he was just 11 years old and he passed it down to me. It’s all I have to remember him.

Most of my firearms I inherited from dead relatives. I think I may have bought 3, my first was a single shot .410 2 3/4” that literally has no marking one four digit number stamped in the forearm stock. Bought it when I was 12 at the local Western Auto store, walked out with ammunition as well. Because a firearm is just a expensive club without ammunition. Before the whole change of arms agreement paper work was instituted into law. We shot .22 ‘s on my junior high shooting team, and there were no school shooting. In high school every pickup in the parking lot had an easy rider rifle rack in the back window. With a shot gun or a deer rifle in it. And there were no school shootings. Hell we used to leave the front door unlocked. I wonder what this country will look like in the next 10 years.

There is something special about those old single shot .22's. In the early and mid 20th century here in my country, they used .22 lr to hunt deer and wild hogs to bring meat on the table. My first .22 lr rifle was a single shot bolt action. Good old nostalgic memories. Thanks for sharing.

My pop was given a Winchester 22 like this one in the 1930s. He spent a lot of time foraging around in the hills near Avenal, ca. In 1943 at the age of 18 he enlisted in the Army and after assignment to the 86th Inf. Div. took advanced basic training at Ft. Benning, Ga. He was awarded the Expert Infantry Badge. Subsequently he became a 1st Army Scout during his deployment in Germany and led his Division in combat in that capacity. My daughter who enjoys shooting now has the rifle.

Nice old 22.👍Take care of that one. I had one that was very similar, mine was a Husqvarna made in the 1920's or 30's. My father gave it to me when I was 7 years old. At that age I was trusted to be left alone with guns. It was a different time. A short time later I shot my first bird, a crow. Great memories.

I got a little German single shot from ca. 1920 that functions similar. The bore is very rough. Used to be you could get a rimfire bore relined but it seems that shops don't seem to want to do it anymore, or they want alot more than the little rifles are worth. Too bad.

Hello just a centrist. Thanks for the information. I never knew that Ranger was associated with Eatons. I do remember going, as a child, to Eatons in downtown Toronto at Christmas. To get to Toy Town, you passed Sporting Goods. There were (literally) barrels of surplus Enfield .303 rifles. Price? $15. Now, at Landsborough Auctions, they're going for over $500, with some over $1,000. I used to fire Enfields when I was in Army Cadets at Riverdale Collegiate in Toronto. We'd fire trainers (.22) at the indoor range. In spring, we'd go to the outdoor military range at Winona, near St. Catherines and fire "the real deal." .303. It was the one time I had the opportunity to fire a Bren. Beautiful firearm. Great memories.
