Syrians are a really big escape artist. They are easier to find than smaller species, because they are the chonkies! Miso is such an escape artist. 😂 Last time my Syrian hamster had escaped out of his bin cage, and it was slightly open so that he could have ventilation. It was the smallest gap! But he still managed to escape. Good thing I checked on his bin cage and I found him on lid finding food! (I moved him into a bigger and more secure cage now, but still check to make sure!)

My boyfriend Syrian hammy escaped once because he forgot to close the lid and Yogurt (the hammy name) climb all the way downstairs to his parents room 🤣 Thankgod he didn't bite any wires, no injuries! Yogurt really love to escape for sure because there are many times we saw him trying to climb and get out 😂 We love him even he's in heaven 💕

Same, my little brother forgot to close the lid once and our hamster Iggy escaped. My mam woke up in the middle of the night and could hear scurrying, so was convinced we had a rat/mouse infestation. My dad told her she was just dreaming, and to go back to sleep, but luckily she turned the light on just in time to see Iggy run out of the room. We never knew hamsters could climb stairs until then! 😂😂

My previous hamster Athena was the BEST escape artist. However, I allowed her to free-roam often because I knew that she was potty trained, and wouldn't chew on things. She was the best kinda hammy to have escape LOL.

When I was a kid we had a few hamsters, but the best escape artist was always Brownie. She had a habit of getting out of her cage and going down to the basement; my dad would find her at like 3am when he got up to shower for work xD Not sure what she was doing down there because nothing was ever destroyed, maybe she was just vibin lol

I have a hamster right now (the hamster in my profile picture) and my cat has opened up the hamster’s cage 3 times and we’ve lost her. It’s pretty scary when it happens because there is a chance the cat could’ve eaten the hamster but thankfully the cat didnt

My hamster once escaped and fell into a folder that was standing upright under her cage (her cage was on my shelf). She stood on the paper inside of the folder and tried to jump out. When i woke up the next morning i hear this weird scraping sound and find her exhausted at the bottom of my folder trying to jump up. She didnt even hesitate to come on my hand when i tried to get her out (she used to be very cautious). Poor little thing. She survived that tho and lived for another year or two.

I remember my family’s first hamster Oleg would escape ALL the time. He truly was a master. And there was more than one instance where he would climb up the stairs at night (his cage was in our living room), go into my parents’ room and climb on their bed. My mum would wake up to him crawling on her face lol. Then there was the time he escaped and we were searching for him the whole day, kind of starting to lose hope that we’d ever see him again, but someone had the brilliant idea to check behind the fireplace. He was there. His ginger fur had become black with soot. We bathed him in water because we didn’t know back then that you weren’t supposed to do that. He died of old age though, in his sleep. RIP Oleg you are missed ❤️

This is exactly what happened with my male syrian, Dexter! He escaped through a gap in his tank lid and it took two days before we found him in the antique drawers in my bedroom. I opened the top drawer because my dog kept barking and scratching at it and Dexter just appeared on top of the linens in the drawer as though to say “Hi mama!”

I have winter white, instead of escaping he is more pleased to stay in his cage. I use playpen and let him roam but he seem to not really enjoy it and always seem more eager to go back to his cage. So he don’t seemed have any desire to escape. Well… his cage is quite spacious I guess he like his cage.

Watch out for cracks underneath cabinets that lead to a space behind, my dwarf went in one during free roam time. Lucky he will do anything for a millet spray so he can right out.

I remember that Milo scaped to the street for 1 hour when he was 3 months, I still don't believe he survived (Guayaquil - Ecuador) at cause of dogs and cats 😣... he stayed down of a neighbour's plant and maybe that helped him to hide from animals... since that, my family has had a lot of care about leaving the door open 😌

Our Syrian escaped (2nd time) and was away for 3 weeks. Took up floorboards etc looking for her. Left out food and water which thankfully she used. She turned up at 3am munching her broccoli. It was like a Mexican stand off until i grabbed her. She hates us but did allow me to cuddle and stroke her for a while. Even escape artists need a mummy hug sometimes 🤗 ❤❤ We also have a Russian dwarf that escaped. He just stayed under our settee. We didn't realise he was missing. He was brought back to the pet shop as he was a biter. We felt sorry for him and gave him a fab new life. He is one of the most gentlest souls. No sign of aggression. God I love hamsters!

My hamster escaped yesterday and her cage is downstairs i was upstairs hanging out and she climbed out of her cage because a forgot to put her cage lid on... and she climbed all the way up the 15 steps of stairs went upstairs under the door into my moms room and hid behind the tv hold thingy 2 hours of worrying and she was in her favorite hiding spot. I her love her so much.

0:02 ohh god its so dangerous 😱 your traps is good :) My hamster has also run away from the cage, and I put food in a place that he often uses to hide / always go to that place when outside the cage and wait for him to come out, if I'm a trap, I put food that smells very good to smell by my hamster and when the first experience my hamster ran away, I was very frantically looking for it but then I thought of ways to make my hamster emerge from its hiding place, So those who are new to experience, the hamster runs away, don't panic and think about things so that he can appear:) WOW MISO U SO BIG, I LIKE IT:D

We had a hamster Houdini who had been a school hamster. He got out in the kitchen, and ended up in the basement by the meters. Thank goodness for live traps! His adventures were decades ago, so the details are foggy. So glad you got Miss Miso back okay! Can you get homeowners/renters insurance for hamster damage that will cost less than repairing the possible damage? Can you find clamps for that cage top to foil any future attempts if she knocks over something to climb on? Check the cages as part of your nightly routine, but please don't get obsessive about it. I stored food inside plastic, so when feeding Sonya(sirian) already knew there was food coming. Also when she was on heat, or just playing, i talked to her trying to make her sonds. So when she escaped first time i found her by shaking food container. And other two times by reproducing(dunno if written wright)) her sounds. But she hid behind closet. So she couldn't get out by herself. I guided her by food sound about half an hour. We were both stressed and exhausted)) but happy to see the light😂

We've had several hamsters with different escape habits. There have been 2 that would actively search for us when they want to go home to their cages by morning, one even had to bite me to get my attention while I was working on the computer. Later on we had one that escaped for 2 weeks. We were sure we were just waiting to find a corpse at that point, but it turned out he had made a nest in a largely ignored area we had never searched. We were surprised he still knew his name, but he has truly seemingly turned feral otherwise. When we got him home, he was super thirsty and drank like no tomorrow, but wanted to leave the cage within an hour of being there, and his strength and speed had clearly increased in his adventures. We didn't want to lose him again, and he resigned himself to his fate after about 2 hours of endless rattling (in the daytime).
