We had a gerbil with a non functional left front leg. He had a full and fantastic life with loving humans around him. He didn’t care that he only could use three legs but was happy with what he had. So take good care of him and he will love you even more.

All of your mice are so big compared to my girls! Of course my girls were supposed to be feeders so it's probably not the best of genetics and diet when they were younger, but it's so strange seeing mice twice their size.❤️

Have you ever owned rats? I had a mouse as a kid named snowflake a little albino girl lived to be 3 years old of old age and passed while sleeping, she was sweet. I really loved our rats too they were very friendly the rat was named snowy...yes we weren’t very original name givers as children (my brother and I) the list of names is ridiculous haha. But snowy gave kisses but eventually we had to get her put down after massive tumors took over her entire body it was one of the saddest memories I have of having to put an animal to sleep besides my dog.

I would have thought he would try using his front paw to itch his ears. Poor little bean. I love the way animals with handicaps just get on with life and dont let it worry them. I have a cat with a partially paralysed back end, a bit like little Azriel. He is the happiest cat Ive even seen. So long as he has food and scratches, he's a happy boy.

He's so cute, and such a warrior. Also he reminds me a lot of my lil' Dipper, he had the same disability ! Never knew where it came from, according to the vet probably an accident before I adopted him, and he also lost and eye when he was around 2, but it never kept him from living the best life (and spending time in his wheel). And he actually lived 3 full years ! I hope your Asriel gets a long, happy life too :) (oh and I also actually had a mouse named Asriel too haha)

I've had up to three or four three week old juveniles trot together on the same solid wheel. It's so adorable. Even then, however, you have to be real careful. If one of the juveniles decides to run in the opposite direction, you easily get a mousie astronaut flying off the wheel, though so far no serious mishaps,

Thank you for sharing more content with Asriel!! I care for a couple rodents with disabilities and find information and content showing these animals living life happily so far and few, despite them often still having a great quality of life! If you don't mind me asking; you're the only channel I've found who often has elder mice, I was wondering if you have any recommendations for specific care/food changes/etc.? I have seen in some of your other videos you provide wet food, but was unsure if that was an every day thing or to help with digestion. My oldest mouse Theodore is soon to be 3 and he's mostly blind and deaf at this point. His smell senses aren't the best either but he still can eat most dry food and runs on his wheel. I just want to know if I should be doing anything in particular to help him at this age as I couldn't find much information. I would appreciate any advice or care suggestions you have. Kind regards and give Asriel some ear scritches for being such a sweet little mouse! :)

With elderly mice I do change a few things: 1. I bed them more on bathmat carpeting, fleece cloth or paper towel and give them much less traditional bedding or none at all. Respiratory systems become weaker as they get older and traditional beddings are more likely to give them respiratory issues because of dust. 2. I make sure they can get where they need to go for food and water by adding ramps that they can still climb, or food/water in more accessible spots. Elderly mice can develop mobility issues. 3. I pamper them with foods like baby porridge. Mice love the rice based kind (with no added milk or sugar), it is easily digestible and encourages reluctant eaters. 4. I observe the mouse a lot to make sure I am not missing anything, so I can help it when needed, so when the suffering becomes too much, to know when to have them humanely euthanized.5. I give it lots of love since I know they will not be around all that much longer, you have to make every moment count.

@@CreekValleyCritters Thank you for your advice! I've never considered bathmat carpeting but that seems like a great addition for the enclosure floor. I'm sure my old boy will love a lot of these suggestions. :)

They are very cute. I'm a new pet owner to a male fancy mouse. I was surprised how strong his urine is. Do you have any advice on how to decrease the smell in his home.
@CreekValleyCritters4 жыл бұрын
Un-neutered male mice can smell VERY strong, some worse than others. If he is new and stressed, he will smell especially bad, usually once they settle in, it becomes less bad. The only thing that will fix this is a trip to the vet to have him neutered.
@ellibean59374 жыл бұрын
Does your mouse's home have good airflow? If the moisture has opportunity to evaporate, then the smell is not as bad. An absorbent bedding can also help with this. Carefresh is my favourite for this reason, and because it's safer than pine or cedar (not safe or healthy for mice) and less allergenic than Aspen, which *is* safe unless your mouse is allergic. I have had some that were and others that were not, but it isn't very absorbent in any case. Changing bedding and washing wheels, toys, etc. (use vinegar or a dish soap without strong scents, rinse well, never use bleach) once a week keeps smells at bay (don't change it more than that, or you risk stressing your mouse.)
@phoenixluna41374 жыл бұрын
@@CreekValleyCritters Thank you very much for your information. I gave him his own home and a quiet room. I let him sleep as much as he wants. He seems to pee alot on his wheel so I wash it every 2 days. I read their urine has ammonia.
@phoenixluna41374 жыл бұрын
@@ellibean5937 Thank you very much. I appreciate your help. I try to keep the windows open as much as possible or keep the a.c on. My fancy mouse pees on his wheel. Since I read that mouse urine has ammonia, I wash the wheel with unscented soap every 2 days, to prevent the smell from from irritating his respiratory system. Maybe the washing of his wheel is what stresses him out? For the bedding, I use Carefresh unscented.

I found a baby mouse yesterday. We think it got washed up by the flood. It’s about two weeks old and possibly has a broken front paw. I’m not sure what to do to help it. I’ve been feeding it kitten replacement milk every two hours and have it pedilyte for the first few feedings. I’m not quite sure what to do next or how to increase my chances of saving it. Any tips?

Make sure it has a warm comfy environment, put a heating pad under it’s enclosure if you have one

I rehabilitated a baby mouse once. It was very hard to find help, and no shelters or vets would see him unless I claimed him as my own and pay all the vet bills which I could not. Here are my tips: I read to feed the mouse baby wafer cookies and baby food. This was not a good decision, as the food could not digest in the little mouse's stomach and led to an anal fistula. He was in so much pain. Finally I got in contact with a mouse rehabilitation expert who advised me to feed the mouse as much fruit as possible, as it is high in water and will help with digestion. The mouse got better!! My second big tip: Keep the mouse in a very strong enclosure. They say to keep the mouse one week longer than the mother would in the wild (in wild I think its 3 weeks). After the mouse became healthy again he became very rambunctious, very fast. My mouse was in a thick shoe box on a shelf and bit a hole through it big enough to escape over night! I never saw him again, but a few months later I had a mouse problem in my building, leading me to my third tip. Mice will come back to a safe place they know to give birth, so they need to be released at least a few miles from your house. And dont keep it. Wild mice become very, well, wild. They have the need to reproduce, and I read they may die if they cannot. Good luck!!!!!

Sounds like you are doing fine so far. Make sure you watch my video series 'Raising a Baby Mouse 1 - 10' and read the updates in the descriptions under the videos. If its eyes are open, you will have a much easier time raising it. Once the eyes are open, continue to offer it formula every 3 or so hours until it is no longer interested. Offer it adult mouse foods and have a jam jar lid of clean water available at all times. At this age you no longer have to help it to go to the bathroom. Watch for dehydration. I like Destiny's Child's tips on dealing with dehydration and what foods to avoid. I do find though that rice based baby cereal works well for baby mice and is easy to digest.

Thank you for replying! We found one of its siblings a few hours ago but sadly it was badly hurt. It’s back was broken and it was seizing. It passed about an hour after we found it :( the first baby now being called Marco is doing ok and is taking formula pretty well.
@dewdropproductions36344 жыл бұрын
Destiny's Child unfortunately if he survives to adulthood I’m unsure if he will be able to be to go back to the wild due to the broken paw. If the paw heals he will be let go in the woods near my house.

I don't sell my mice, but if the right person comes along, I will re-home. If you live outside of the Yukon though, this is very expensive, because it involves travel over long distances. Few people would be willing to pay the 100s of dollars involved.
