It's just like this: I'm in grad school. I already have my bachelor's degree and I'll be getting my master's degree next summer. But I haven't found a job in my current field of study yet. So yes, I know my worth and although I believe I am over qualified to wash dishes, sweep floors, and fold clothes. But guess what If I ever have to do that, I will. And I will continue to apply to internships and jobs in my pay range. Most people have worked at least one job where they had to smile in the face of their boss and then go home and finally let off steam. It's capitilist America-- and yes, it's not right. But Monique the AMERICAN PEOPLE are being blackballed. Especially Black Americans! Don't act like it's just you. Most of us have "played the game" to some extent.

Funky, this video is one of your most intelligent and powerful pieces. You are absolutely right. Mo’Nique is just sanctimonious, ignorant, and stubborn. She does not work because she IS too difficult. Every leading actor, no matter their sex, race, ethnicity, or whatever, has to take part in promoting their films. If she had only taken Tyler’s and Oprah’s and Lee’s advice, she would now be megawealthty and megafamous. Also, Netflix pays market rates. It’s not a charity. Chris Rock can command many millions because he pulls in the viewers. Same with Amy Schumer. Mo’nique can’t draw in viewers, so she cannot command the big fees. It’s not hard.

During the movie Precious Monique had her talk show and a new baby so maybe just maybe it was a good reason why she couldn't promote like they wanted especially if she really wasn't getting paid enough to do it. This kinda just like with the email scandal that happened with Sony saying Kevin Hart was being a asshole because of a movie he was in he wouldn't promote it on his IG but he responded by talking about the contract and promoting on his IG wasnt in it and so basically if it wasn't in her contract to promote she shouldn't have been forced to or blackballed for not promoting the movie.
@rosalynbrooks51869 жыл бұрын
Yeah but here is the thing....Kevin Hart promoted his movies alllllll over but when you start asking me to promote movies on my "personal IG" yes you will pay me. Point blank period Kevin Hart did more than enough to get the Wedding Singer out there. Monique chose to do NOTHING! Big difference. Plus if Monique is being truly honest with herself she just need to say I wasn't happy with myself at that time and I had an attitude about everything in life. You changed your image but its a shame to see you didnt even touch your attitude. "Woe is me" is not what Hollywood is checking for......sad sad sister and while she is out her trying to put dirt on Lee Daniels name she's creating a "Here lies Monique" sign.

I agree with Rosalyn Brooks and thisheadofmine. Additionally, I was always told not compare myself to other people. You miss out on your own blessings looking at what other people got. Kevin Hart and Monique are not the same. Funky Dineva points out exactly when the game started to change for Monique and Lee Daniels (3:59-5:31); It's a game. Hell, Life is a game and you got to play your cards right or deal with the consequences. Thats goes for any situation. Sometimes you gotta do things you don't want to do for the greater good.
@tgrice6019 жыл бұрын

Yoy can't compare it to Kevin Hart.....it's not the same thing. Monique dis ZERO PROMO for her own film, Kevin wanted to be paid for the access to his MILLIONS of followers. He gladly does promo for every film he's in
@dwayne4u9 жыл бұрын
Trust me Miss Ross I couldn't agree with you more. Humble pie, humble pie, humble pie. As I'm sure you already know in Hollywood you have to know how to play the game, and Lee Daniels said that same thing in an interview and he also said that Monique was not willing to play the Hollywood game. I consider myself to be a good judge of character and when Monique and her husband was seeing how the movie was blowing up they wanted a larger piece of the pie and started making demands and now her ass in it she wanna talk about being black balled, when she is the one digging her own grave.

"Play a Maid so you don't have to be one"...hmm..I'm going to play Devil's advocate here and say this...I get what Hattie Daniels meant by her statement...she lived in a different world than we do now so it made more sense then...I don't think Monique should have to 'Shuck and Jive' to remain relevant in Hollywood...There are probably tons of white actors who have refused to do certain things because they felt they were not paid enough...but I guarantee they're still working....why should a black actor still have to 'Play the Maid' in 2015...FOH.
@thisheadofmine9 жыл бұрын
Because roles are more abundant for White people than they are for Blacks...especially for Black women. Not saying she has to shuck and jive, but if you want to continue working in an industry where you are already not in high demand, you have to play the game.
@Cokobae9 жыл бұрын
thisheadofmine That was exactly the point I was trying to make...Why, in 2015, are black actors still looked at as the secondhand help in the acting world...back in the day, it was understandable...the roles were limited for a reason, because black actors weren't even looked at as equals in real life...but after all these years, they're still in the same boat...why?...Because they keep allowing it...by 'Playing the Maid'...If you have standards, people will respect you more...but I guess everyone isn't opposed to ass kissing though.

Black people are so jaded that we think the world is against us. We are so upset with the unfairness of life that we fail to get out of our own way sometimes and accept blessings. Monique was given a blessing when that movie picked up speed. She should have been happy that everyone was watching her performance and she was getting Oscar buzz. But instead, she was so upset about the unfairness of the money she received to pay the role that she could not get out of her own way to accept the blessings of an Oscar. We need to stop boohooing about unfairness and just accept the blessings we do have.

Yesssssssss! This is not a read but the damn truth. Monique is just digging a grave for herself that she can't come out of I never I understood actors who don't want to play politics, like HELLO IT IS HOLLYWOOD. Hollywood is going to remain relatively the same, regardless if folks bitch and moan, especially for black actors, actresses and folks behind the scenes that is why it is so important to build solidarity and build your own but Monique wanted to go left thinking she was it. Taraji put in the work, Kerry Washington put in the work, Shonda Rhimes put in the Work, Cicily Tysons put in the Work for YEARS so why do Monique thinks she is special. What she needs to do is fire her husband/manger and hire a real management team.

@chrisg.50567 жыл бұрын
Yes, this is true that they put in the work, but I guarantee you compared to their white counterparts they aren't getting anything close to what they deserve. For example, the list that was released months ago showing that white actors/actresses make way more than black actors/actresses for tv shows and shit. When someone wins an Oscar and damn near sweeps the award season they're suppose to make and get offered $1 million dollars minimum. She has addressed this before and said this during a CNN interview that she was getting offers, BUT they did not make sense and she feels that she is worth more than what they offered her. They were trying to give her $25 to $100k for movie roles following winning an Oscar. So I don't think there is anything wrong with her knowing her worth and wanting more than what's offered to her. Black people shouldn't have to play politics, or "the game" because at the end of the day regardless they still won't see us as their equal. She's standing in her truth and speaking out not biting her tongue and there's nothing wrong with that. The way Monique is speaking out during the her shows and shit is the way she has ALWAYS been, but now people seem to have a problem with it because she's speaking against people who are considered big names in the industry. Which is what I wish a lot of these black people in Hollywood would start doing and stop settling for less.

Shakaama Lee was just getting started...and she agreed as a friend to the amount to help out her friend...so the promotion of the movie was to gain momentum so that Lee could give her a bigger payday in the end....if u start a business but don't have the capital or assets to pay ur friends accordingly at the time but want their help and they agree to help would you want them to get on TV radio and everywhere else because u blew up and talk crap about u?? She went about it all the wrong way

Dineva, OMG!!! In all seriousness, you gave some truly heart-felt advice in this vlog!!! You were right with her saying something, even if she doesn't mean it, and getting rid of her husband for appearances. That is some real talk!! That is all part of the game. Hopefully, she can get her career back on track.

Fast forward 3 years later and we still fussing at Monique (Steve Harvey) tryna get this fool to Apologize. 🤦♀️ I’m done talking about Monique. This fight has been going on for over 10 years, it’s ENOUGH!!

Dineva, you are dead right on all this mess. If Mo'Nique knew what was good for her, she would stop trying to call out Lee Daniels on National Television. What message is she sending to Hollywood producers? "This black director hired me. He gave me a part that I turned into an academy award winning performance. I refused to promote the movie for XYZ reasons. I did not thank him during the biggest pr event of my life. I am now putting him on blast all over the network news. My comments are spurting racial unrest and homophobia all over social media. This man was supposed to be my ally in an industry that historically ignores my race. But I will contribute to make this situation as toxic as it can be made because I am going to have the last word." Now, y'all think a white producer sees this and even wants to go near this lady? This is not a matter of racism, but a matter of "we could just hire someone else and lead a peaceful life"

Yes to everything you laid out. You do your research and know your stuff.

YES, Monique did not deserve that Oscar. I've always said this, happy a woman of color won - but that role was simple. Gabby deserved it.

Monique didn't get a fair shake in this. They wanted her to tour 20+ festivals, award shows and TV appearances out of the $50K salary!! To put this in perspective, that's several changes of hair, makeup, wardrobe for 2-3 television and red carpet appearances taped in a given day; misc expenses out of her own pocket, meals, airfare, hotel rooms, limos, drivers, nannies, assistants, manager, etc. Denzel & Meryl Streep may negotiate an extra $2M salary to cover promotion expenses. Monique and hubby didn't know this apparently (I always assumed the film studio pays this since they need tax deductions.) Oprah could've spotted her(!), which hints at just how foul Monique & Miss Sidney's attitude must have been to turned off the Queen of Giveways Winfrey! All in all, this was a bitter pill, and Monique should've swallowed. You were so on point Dineva.

I hear what you saying to Mo'Nique, "play the game." And I appreciate the passion with which you speak on it. But, Dineva, Mo'Nique ain never been bout them games and she been said that. She know that it's gonna cost her to be that way but, she always been straight up because it don't take all that politican. I love her for that. And Hollywood aint ready... have they ever been? She might not eat the same but, I'm sure she'd rather have her dignity because she has probably already paid plenty dues in that industry.

Yes! My sentiments exactly! All the money and outward prestige can't buy back your soul when you've lost it. I commend Mo'Nique for not bending to politics because only she has to live with herself at the end of the day.

if so then why is she all butthurt all over the media about why shes not getting gigs
@pmonpl9 жыл бұрын
Refusing to do extra work like promoting is common sense for her work, everyone does it. So why does she feel she is so special that Hollywood will change for her.kerry Washington, Oprah Winfrey, Alfre Woodward they all do the work they must do for their projects in order to remain visible and make contacts as well as cultivate relationships.Even Oprah who has never won an oscar for any of her movies because of politics does tge work so what is Moniques reasoning.The problem is in not doing them you seem difficult with no networking with right people. And as result wether you have an oscar or not people will more be open to work with you as they are with Oprah.Networking and positivity is the Hollywood game as well as behind the scene politics.

We already know that the roles for black people are few . What conversation that Mo had with Lee should have stayed between them. Mo is putting herself in a situation that will limit her acting roles, if someone pulls you to the side and give you heads up about a situation, you don't go back and out the source.
