My Hair is Layed Like Injustice (Blakes On The Park Atlanta Racist)

Popular Atlanta bar, Blake's On A Park, posted a dress code sign that feels very racist in nature. The sign calls out clothing and accessorizes that are stereotypical to the Black hip-hop community. Blake's has an unspoken history of being slightly racist towards Blacks, per many Black bar-goers in Atlanta. Local Atlanta bar-goers are outraged.

"I'm not anti-white, I'm just pro-black." Love that statement! They knew what they were doing typing & posting that sign. Why they thought no one would complain, is beyond me. The southern states are where this is most expected (no offense to those who reside there. I love everyone. :)) So tired of the racism, subtle or not.

There has been a misunderstanding of the "Wonderful" city of Atlanta. In the early 80's there was multiple news article circulating about how "ATL is the black mecca" and "If your black and have a degree come to Atlanta" and after all it is the birth place of Martin Luther King Jr., Always was a major transportation hub , and the founding place of many successful (white owned) southern businesses. But it all ends there. Atlanta is one most racist among all southern cities, no wonder its the birth place of MLK. Till this day alot of people still feel ATL is the place were blacks can become successful yet the black population of ATL makes up about70% yet out of that percent only 10% are successful and among that 10 percent most of them are in the Black entertainment sector. So i say that to say this, Funky Dineva you absolutely correct and i agree 100% "not anti white just pro black" powerful words indeed..

YES DINEVA!!! I can understand an owner not wanting a certain dress and customer. But it's BLATANT when the items they describe that don't include other articles of clothing that aren't dressy. I went to a club on Panama City Beach a few years back that had some of those same rules when it applied to dress. You could walk into that very PCB club and see they meant "no niggas" cause the predominantly european american crowd walking around wasn't in upscale or dressy, etc. attire. They could walk in flip flops, hunting gear and whatever country, trailer trash outfit they felt wearing and not get second guessed.

I've experienced to cold shoulder from Blake's, Joes On Juniper, & many more. Thankfully people who have been ignoring my warnings & claiming im overly sensitive finally get the picture. They don't and never wanted our black asses in their establishment to begin with! Great video!

I agree with everything you've said. It is time for us to stop going where we are tolerated instead of celebrated. If we support our own people, their establishments will be just as fabulous, places we'd be proud to hang out. It is time for us to not look at our people as "Us and them," although there are differences within our culture. If my brother is not welcome, nor am I.

Yassssssssss! Doll!! I am with you 100%. I live in Atlanta born and raised. And for the most part Atlanta is pretty diverse. You will encounter a few establishments that maybe a little shaky. But I'm willing to bet, they aren't even from Atlanta. I can honestly say, personally I haven't experienced anything that felt questionable.... about me as far as my ethnicity go. But that doesn't mean it's non-existent. I really appreciate how you expressed yourself on the matter. Very clear and precise. I love that.

Yes blacks should patronize their own businesses, but the horrible attitudes we have to deal with when we walk through the door and see our own sitting behind the counter is unbearable. About 95% of the time when I attempt to do business with my own people I have to lower my standards of accepted service. I can't deal with the nasty attitudes we have towards each other, as if my walking into your business is bothering you and I ruined your day. I'd rather go to the person who will at least "act" like they appreciate my business and not roll there eyes as soon as I walk through the door. Black business owners need to learn the art of good customer service and the "old fashioned" service with a smile😊.

I told my husband that in this time we are all as black ppl going to have an opportunity to speak out on discrimination, but all of us black folks will not take the chance. This is how we are going to change things by addressing the covert racism on site. Don't back down. You can stand up for yourself in a civilized way when need be. But if someone takes it to the next level, then hey.. You have to teach ppl how to treat you. And think about your black bro and sis while you're at it.

Andrea Harris I'm not trying to discount what he is saying, but just know there are multiple perspectives to everything. I walk through area all the time, and there are prominently White, Latino and Black men, ALL laughing and mingling. These establishments are trying to keep out Thugs and young people expecting to "turn up." You and I both know that is not only Black people, nor is it ALL black people. In fact, most of the gay black men I see walking around midtown at night are very much the OPPOSITE of all the things described on that list. They are happily welcome at Blake's.

I promoted a Florida hotel that leased out space to a comedy club who occasionally had Black comedians as their talent. The hotel GM thought the club's guest might intimidate the hotel's guest, (because they was Black.) The GM could not tell the club owner not to hire Black comedians but they did everything they could to harass them, including hiring off duty police as security who searched their guests.

This has got to be the most accurate and most real description of midtown Atlanta. I have lived in midtown for over 9 years now, and absolutely fucking agree with Dineva. I have been to Blake's Einstein's, Joes on Juniper, and a few more establishments and the vibe is very much, " we will tolerate you" but we don't want you here. After the whole issue with that sign, I will never go to Blake's again even when friends ask, I decline and go elsewhere. Buckhead is the same as midtown, they are the most racially segregated areas, but not segregated like back in the civil right era, but you can notice it subtlety without establishments outright saying "No Blacks Allowed"

CREAMYS COUCH I so agree with you. In my own experience, the professionalism is lacking. I actually seek black businesses to patronize. I'm talking about mechanics, plumbers, air conditioning.. places where you spend a lot of money! A lot of them are hard to find because they don't have a simple website or facebook page. It's hard when you try to find things based on word of mouth only. Some of the ones you do find won't answer the phone or return calls in a timely manner. You go int he business and they walking around like they are in their houses and barely speak to you when you come in. We gotta do better, but I really love my people!

***** lol I'm wondering that as well. Honey, you're black. It's literally impossible for you to be racist just because you don't identify with those things. The point is that the owners generalized us all that way to subliminally put out the message....sigh nvm just watch

That's my thoughts but clearly others disagree. Those are the rules here in NY. But i don't live in the south so I can't judge. And to be fair I didn't finish the video.

Funky Dineva hit some great points though about society. Once you know the tricks of PR and business, you can see the tricks a mile away, and all you can do is present them the information and perspective and let them work with it.

Thank you. Please look up Kung Fu Saloon. The DOJ did an investigation on them for the same practices. My friends here in Houston have dealt with this in our midtown and Washington Ave. Area.

Been going to Blake's for 5 years now and I'm Black. Haven't had any unwelcomed attitudes towards me from the staff whatsoever. I don't wear any of the clothes on the list because that's just not my style. Perhaps that's why I'm not offended as a patron but I do understand why those who dress that way would. The reality is a lot of places have dress codes that includes bars, nightclubs and yes restaurants as well. It's not always a race thing. There are establishments who don't want a thuggy or unclassy image. Blacks aren't the only people who wear baggy clothes and doo-rags. Pick your battles better people.
