IMPORTANT NOTE: Please mentally swap #17 and #15, I'd say #17 is harder than both #16 and #15 and #15 is easier than #16 and #17. I edited this video at a time when I didn't have my thoughts on all these runs fully collected. I'm skiing Alpine Meadows for the first time in 10 years tomorrow! Beyond hyped!

I would put needle above highlands bowl. The hardest part of highlands bowl is that insane brutal hike, but in terms of skiing needle has a comprable pitch (avg pitch steeper than fhe bowl) and its narrowness is the hardest part. You skiwd it great!

That's valid, I can definitely see the argument for that! Honestly I reattempted Needle this year in even worse conditions and I definitely found it more challenging than Highland Bowl.

curious how perceived risk plays a role in this. some of the tier 1 runs seemed quite a bit less risky than the others, particularly number 1. is this not a significant influence on ur decision
@ArjunsBurnerАй бұрын
Maybe some of it was the fact that with some of the tier 1 runs, while they weren't as risky, they had avalanche risk?
@arjunskiАй бұрын
Yk, I had no set criteria for grading these, but now that you mention it, perceived risk definitely played a huge role. For me, even though #1 wasn't the most technical, it had easily the steepest pitch on this list and it sustained that pitch for the longest time. That plus the 1hr hike at 12,000 feet that came before made that whole experience the most stressful I've had while skiing, ever. Although it wasn't the only thing I considered, perceived risk is definitely a big component into how I ranked these as I did (IG that's also why I ranked Direct higher than National Shoulder). Although, I definitely factored in things like sheer technicality (which is why I ranked Needle above Direct even though I felt more scared on Direct). Good point!

@ArjunsBurner Nope, all of this skiing is inbounds, very minimal avalanche risk for the most part

Ah you’re right, that’s a typo, my bad. Idk why but I always think the entirety of Heavenly lies in California lol
