Welcome back! SPF should always be the last thing you apply on your face (before your makeup). As a rule of thumb, always start with the lightest formula to the heaviest when applying your face products, Hope this helps!

chemical SPFs have to be the first thing your skin touches AND 20 min before sun exposure to work, but the one you have is physical (blocking) SPF and can be applied over or under, and no matter if you wait before sun exposure or not.. :) Source: DermTV LOL

You can shop the ABC Stores online, or you can order a catalogue online. We lived in Hawaii for awhile when I was a kid, one of the best experiences of my life. We should all make sunscreen a daily habit, I wish I had in my 20's, because now I've hit 40 and I'm playing catch up. I do moisturizer, then SPF, then makeup every morning.

As for the sunscreen dilemma, put on the lighter cream before the heavier cream just as a general rule. Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide are physical sunscreens, so even if UV rays penetrate past a moisturizer (if it goes on after sunscreen, depending on thickness) and reflect the light! :)

I normally put on my moisturizer and then do something else while I let it sink in (either get dressed or do my hair). Then I'll put on my spf and continue with my makeup routine. I find that spf sort of works as a primer and I love that.

You put your moisturizer first to let the moisture sink in, wait at least 10-15 minutes to absorb, and use the sunscreen as you would a primer (alone or under makeup). Basically between your skincare and your makeup :)

hey michele! it always goes from thinner consistency to thicker to maximize it's absorption.. so if you used the whole skincare routine it would be toner, then serum, emulsion, moisturizer, sunscreen, then primer :)

I guess, now that I think about it, I put on my sunscreen after my moisturizer. If my sunscreen is really dewy, I put on my moisturizer sparingly -just on dry spots. Glad you had so much fun!!

Happy you're back! I know what you mean about the spf thing in Hawaii, the sun is SUPER strong there. I would be out for 10 minutes with sunscreen on and still get color.

I know ppl are saying to put it on before but that's the case with chemical sunscreens. The way that physical sunscreens work is to sit on top of the skin. Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide are physical particles that reflect the UV rays off your face as opposed to absorbing like a chemical sunscreen. Therefore, it's better to use on top of moisturizer to act as a physical shield imo.

The correct way of applying your faceproducts is: cleanser, toner, serum, moisturizer, spf. The spf is your protective shield, so it should go on last, before you apply makeup (-primer). Remember to let your moisturizer sink in, before you put on your spf :)

Because the Coola SPF dries to a powder, it would be best to apply over the moisturizer so that it can seal in the moisturizer as well as get the benefit of the powder finish. :]

I actually recommended putting on under reg moisturizer and also bring some down to the neck. The face and neck are supposed to be protected to avoid aging. I find it acts like its also acts as a primer.

I lived in Honolulu for 3 months after I graduated college and it was the best time of my life. I still get so sad when I think about Hawaii and how much I miss it. I even worked at the Ala Moana Center! When I was there (3 years ago) it seemed like all the local girls wore these gold bracelets with their name engraved on them. Chemical sun screens (oxybenzone) will sink in to your skin, but they still should go on after moisturizer. They absorb the UV rays, and produce heat. Physical sun screens (titanium oxide, zinc oxide) form a protecting layer on top of the skin and reflect the UV rays off of you. Also, you do get tan even with SPF, but the process is slower, and better for your skin.

I usually apply my moisturizer, wait for it to sink in, then apply sunscreen on top so that the sunscreen doesn't cake up and sit on my face better. because some sunscreens tend to be very thick!

The white tint in the sunscreen is from the titanium and zinc oxides, they act as physical sun blockers and are found in some of the more common sunblocks. I don't think it matters if you put your sunscreen or your moisturizer on first as far as the spf working, but for your skin's sake I would do the moisturizer first.

****** It doesn't matter how you apply the spf, it will still protect. If you put it directly on the skin, maybe it will adhere better. The number will tell you the length of protection. (spf15 basically gives you 150 minutes of sun protection). Also if you are wearing spf to protect from sun aging & skin cancer, only sunscreen with ZINC or T. Dioxide will do that. The others will protect only from sunburn. :-) hope that helped

You always layer your face products according to thickness. For example, serums go on 1st, then the next thickest and so on til the thickest on last. Let each absorb first,. I lived on Maui 28 yrs, you're making me homesick! :) -- Judi

Have you ever tried Jurlique products? I love them because I can read the back and understand all of their ingredients. Their sunscreen is the only one I will probably ever use, and it actually almost makes makeup go on smoother without feeling like sunscreen.

there are diff tipes of spfs 1 kind needs to sink into the the skin to produce the chemicals that will screen the sun, and there is 2 that already has those chemicals that screen the sun those just sit on the skin (like powders or foundation)

What I would do is use a moisturizer first. Let it seep into your skin for 20 minutes before putting on your sunscreen. I read a dermatologists article stating that if you put your sunscreen on immediately after your moisturizer: the moisturizer prevents the sunscreen from seeping into your skin.

I would wear the SPF over the face cream, that's what I do. If you find the combination too rich, try using a serum instead. I really liked the eyes to kill, will check that out. I use # 8+15 often. Got a good laugh about the sneakers!! Oh I just started following you on instagram.

Moisturizer first, so your skin can soak it up. Then sun screen to shield your moisturized face from the sun! Some sun screens are even water resistant, so if you put them on first, your moisturizer cannot penetrate your skin...it will just sit on top of the sun screen.
