I will be discussing natural hair care,what helped me grow my natural hair and length retention. Low manipulation hairstyles, stretching my hair, low heat, moisturizing, and patience are I think the top keys for my natural hair growth and natural hair care. This video also describes what I've been doing with my hair in terms of my natural hair regimen and routine. I style my hair in a stretched style once a week and I do not comb or re-twist or braid my hair in between styling. Hope you enjoy the video!

Beautiful hair. I am Muslim, so my hair is hidden from outsiders, but I use Sulfur 8 and Royal Crown, and I wash every 5- 5 week, and do not use any heat, but air dry. Hair is at my waist, but I wear it pulled back and in a ball. I love my hair. I will be 74 on 10/24.

THANK YOU!!!! I am a black man and have been increasingly annoyed that so many black women chose to change the texture of their hair. I'm just glad to see that there are examples for black women to follow so they can feel beautiful about who they are. Thank you!

Hi! I also received some negative reactions. What got me through it was focusing more on what I wanted and not what others thought. I was encouraged by seeing others with natural hair online thriving. Glad you're keeping with it and good luck on your hair journey!

thats good and keep it up. And also eat healthy foods like fruits and vegetables. It helps to keep your hair healthy. You can also try out african hair products on amazon and natural hair shampoo for african hair and keep your hair moisturized and thats how it grow sweety.

All this time,I was focusing on products that promote hair growth.. but our hair is going to grow regardless...my focus now is on products and a regimen that promote less breakage..which means hair growth and less breakage will allow me to see a difference in the length.

Great video!! I have long hair that I double twist in cornrow style and wear up under wigs all the time. Maybe twice a year I will wear my natural hair just stretched for some people dying to see my natural at work. The key to growing really long hair is LOW MANIPULATION!!! I can't stress that enough to my daughter who constantly is awed by my hair. I double twist it and leave it 2 weeks and then I wash and condition it by sections. I have to re twist for 2 days with leave in conditioner coconut oil, shae butter, and water after washing to restore my moisture balance and then I am good to go...adding moisture only to the ends of the 10 twists. The key people is LEAVE YOUR HAIR ALONE :)

You are a gorgeous natural woman! So refreshing to see that. This gives me hope to try and wear my hair natural. I've been relaxer free for 5 years now but my hair can get so overwhelming when I wash it that I've just been getting it pressed out after every wash to make it easier for me. Seeing your hair gives me strength to try again!

I will be taking down 10 year old, butt-length locks in the next few weeks, and I'm scared to death because I have no clue what do with my hair to retain length or even style it! Your channel seems to provide amazing tips, and now I'm super excited again....but still a little scared. Regardless, you have just gained a new subscriber. Blessings my natural sister.

TaNika, have you started taking down your locs yet? I was there myself in 2013. If I could do it all over again, I would have taken them down, instead I chopped. It was HARD at first, having a TWA after long locs, but now that I am about to enter year two and the true beauty of my loose hair is emerging, makes it all worth it in the end. Good luck!!!
@tanikaharlis2347

I have, but unfortunately for me, unlike many of the ladies on KZbin I haven't been able to save nearly as much hair. I believe the reason is that I had it color treated last year with bleach and the whole shabang, and it completely damaged it. I've only been able to save the bit that's grown out since then and maybe an inch of the colored portion. The rest of my former waist length glory is dead. Its OK though, because what's there is still pretty and I'm open to a new journey.
@123leahm
@123leahm 10 жыл бұрын
TaNika Harlis Good for you that the hair you have left is pretty! I decided to do my loc chop after taking down one loc. It took me a week and the loose hair was not nearly as long as the loc--and it looked weird. Even after I cut it it just did not look like *my* hair. Only now--almost 2 years later--is it beginning to bounce back to it's familiar thickness and texture. I think we need more information about how to transition from locs to loose hair--the unloc journey. It probably would be good idea to start doing deep conditions and protein treatments for 6 months or more before the take down begins. That would probably save alot of hair and help the transitioner get ready for loose hair again as well.
@tanikaharlis2347
@tanikaharlis2347 10 жыл бұрын
I completely agree. That as well as bentonite clay and clarifying shampoos/treatments. A big issue with the takedown process is also lint. I've noticed lint or buildup latching onto the hair, and stripping it away, whereby much of the length and thickness is lost. I never knew how fragile my hair actually was until I started taking them down.

Love you hair care routine . I also believe we have the same hair texture. I'm transitioning from natural locs to loose natural hair. And my hair is really dry . I the last time I straightened my hair was 2 year's ago . I'm trying not to put any hear to my hair . I Love your hair routine. I going to follow your routine. My hair length now is at your length when you're hair was at 2 year . So hopefully in a in another 2-3 year I see tremendous progress. Thank for the tips . Great video . your hair growth is awesome. i have been trying to MAKE my hair grow for roughly for years now, and nothing. I do all the stuff folks on here say [moisturize before washing, part in sections, olive oil, shea butter, etc. etc.]. I am taking vitamin and mineral supplements to boost my immune system and have now added biotin. All I can see is that simple 1 inch of growth over the past 7 [or so] years, plus TONS of breakage and falling out when I wash. Your hair and your efforts are gorgeously great! Thanks for the video.

Thank you for your video, I've been on this journey a few times before but I'm learning so much more this time. My previous journeys were pre KZbin, patience is the hardest part, I'm debating right now if I should get my hair trimmed, my last trim was in April and it seemed like she cut a lot, I'm debating weather or not I want to flatiron it, I have 4C, low porosity, dry hair. I'll post my current photo, so maintaining length is a problem. I haven't done a length check since April.

Great video getting ready to start my full natural journey. Been transitioning for 2 years and about to chop the relaxed ends. I don't think I've been talking "great" care of my hair (espcially since I didn't realize I was "transitioning" until almost a year post) but definitely want to make sure I build a regimen now because I do want "long" hair but I also want to make sure I know how to retain it. Thanks for the video!

Im natural (almost 3yrs) but only wear my hair in that way during the summer (wash n go). I can't seem to get with protective styling, it always looks like crap and my 2 strand twist can only be left in for 2 days before my hair tries to lock. So I flat iron my hair twice a month. Thankfully reversion is never a problem. Your hair is beautiful and you are as well. This was a very informative video!

Hi - i cut locks I had for about 10 years and the locks had damaged my hair. After about a year or so, my hair became healthy. I conditioned and used the loc method. Silk scarfs make me sweat, so I use a silk piece of material on my pillow. My hair is bra length now, every day I spritz it with water and add some type of oil. I mostly finger detangle but once and a while I patiently run a comb after dampening it to get the extra lint or whatever. I snip the knots I cant undo too. My hair is lovely and I will take good care of it. Thanks for your information- this has helped a lot.

Your hair is so beautiful and long! I've been natural my whole life but my hair isn't as long as yours. It's about 12-13 inches, my hair grows when it's in braids but I don't feel like I'm observing noticable progress in length

I'm still figuring it all out, but your info certainly helped. I've been natural during the 70's, 80's, 90's and now but I did figure out that my hair broke off because it was dry and I thought that it would grow natural and I didn't have to do anything. I was wrong. Anyway I'm about 1yr post relaxer

One, you are such a beautiful woman! Two, you have beautiful hair!! Do any of your videos discuss more of the products you use? Also, do you discuss your hair type in any videos? (if you even bother with the hair typing system) Thanks for sharing your luscious locs!

My last relaxer was 11/16/2012 I transitioned without a big chop, I've had a few Design essentials strengthening therapy amino acid protein treatments while transitioning, I'm 64 so I should be done with the long hair thing but I want to see how long I can grow it.
