Yeah, aortic dissection is no joke, and I think it needs to be talked about more. My dad had one just last year. Unfortunately, he did not survive. He went to the ER on a Thursday, had emergency open heart surgery that same day for over ten hours, and was on life support until the following Monday. His unexpected death has left our family in shambles. I'm grateful that you, Austin, are spreading awareness of this subject and are receiving appropriate medical treatment for your heart. My heart (pun unintended?) goes out to you and your family. 💕 Rest in peace, Dad.

Yea the doctor knows best but sometimes Doctors will ignore your symptoms just because they don’t make sense or shouldn’t be possible according to text books as if that does anything for the symptoms. But some of that is because unless it makes sense they can’t get insurance to pay for it while the patience are still having issues. Ofc it’s not always like this.

Once I went in to the ER to check chest pain. Turned out it was nothing. I had health insurance, but still paid little over $1000. If I hadn't been living at home rent free, I wouldn't have been able to afford it. If I end up moving to a place with universal healthcare maybe that will change. Now I just ignore most pain because I know I won't be so lucky to afford to get it looked at "just in case."

Always go to the doctor regularly, like he said! My uncle got in a small car wreck, he rear-ended someone and knocked his head on the steering wheel. No one was hurt, aside from maybe a bruise on the forehead, but he wanted to go to the doctor just to make sure he was ok. During some tests the doctors found a tumor in his brain. It was about the size of a quarter, if not smaller. The doctors say it looks like it had been there for about a year or so. A few weeks after, he got surgery to remove the tumor, and it was sent off to a lab for testing. He recovered well and was ready to leave this seemingly small bump in the road, but the results came in. Turns out he has stage 2 brain cancer, when the tumor is slow growing, but can spread or regrow after removal. His first dose of chemo starts soon. Always go to the doctor for regular check ups.

Hi, medical student here, The reason the heart has trouble when it gets too big is a little hard to picture. Surely muscles become more powerful when they get bigger right? And this does happen to some extent with the heart, but the chambers inside of the heart where the blood pools to be pumped have to het smaller to accomodate this growth, so each pump, though more powerful pumps less blood around. Ultimately the heart compensates by growing even bigger and a point of diminishing returns is reached, and you can die of a big heart.

In the UK the NHS has so many problems, but at least you don't have to pay for medical care (directly) that may not work anyway. Even delivering a baby and the aftercare in America costs more than I earn in a year and I'm on a decent wage! I really hope everything turns out fine, I hate when such hardworking/amazing people have the worst things happen to them.

Wow, amazing video. I'm so sorry to hear about this. I hope you and your family are doing well. As a side note, I'm a *huge* fan of the production of this video. You're extremely talented, and it really shows with how you presented this information to us. I dearly hope you'll be around for a long, long time, Austin.
