Hey guys, this past week I ended up in the ER because of severe SVT attack, the first one that got this bad. It was in the 250s for several hours. I got dosages of adenosine and my heart rate went down to the 120 and I got to go home that night!

@@caimacler ahh so since your ablation is it almost like you can feel an SVT start but it stops itself and it feels like a skip? I’m so glad you’re not experiencing the SVT now but wow you handled it like a boss on this video 😆❤️

SVT is not life-threatening. It can be either AVRT or AVNRT. The latter is more common of the two. Definitive treatment is RF ablation (slow pathway modification). Medical management includes beta blockers / calcium channel blockers. Metoprolol 50mg or diltiazem 90mg is generally used. If episodes are frequent and refractory to medical management, RF ablation is suggested. During an episode, vagal and valasalva maneuvers are suggested. In the ER, adenosine 6mg IV bolus is given. If sinus rhythm is not achieved, the dose is repeated. If still sinus rhythm is not achieved, IV diltiazem infusion / IV amiodarone is considered. If unstable, DC cardioversion is done but that's rare for SVT. RF ablation puts an end to these episodes. Cure rate approaches 95% for AVNRT following RF ablation. Post-ablation, some people develop inappropriate sinus tachycardia which is again managed with beta blockers. Rarely, some people develop complete heart blocks for which pacing is done. Go to an experienced centre and it should be all fine!

You may have a rare heart condition called WPW (Wolff Parkinson White) syndrome where you have one or more extra connections called the Bundle of Kent located between the atria and the ventricles that is conductible where is should not be, so the electric signals end up going through that "bridge" instead of the AV node that has more resistance than the Bundle of Kent. During a fast heart beat episode, the electricle signals get caught in a loop.

I suffered from this condition for years and I had it quite under control, but over time it got worse and the same thing happened to me as you. One day they gave me many episodes of 250 and I ended up in the emergency room with several doses of adenosine, in the same week they offered me ablation with an electrophysiology and I took it. The recovery is good, but I have strange episodes in the morning when I get up, I have been recovering for five months and I have an appointment this week to do a study. We'll see.

Wow I hope everything went well!! Luckily I haven't had any issues since my ablations with SVT, but my resting heart rate has been 130 since, so they put me on propranolol and that seems to be helping! I wish you all the best!

@@caimacler After you get an ablation, you may get some unstable beats here and there, a faster heart rate and a feeling that you're about to go into an SVT. Those symptoms are normal as your heart gets inflamed after they soldered the spots in the heart that was causing the rhythm problem, so your heart gets a bit fussy as it is healing.
@caimacler
@caimacler Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately it’s been a year and a half and I’m still having the same symptoms, they think I have more issues than just the SVT and ablation that would be causing it. My resting heart rate unmedicated is 130 still, it hasn’t gone down at all and that’s not the healthiest to have all the time!

It definitely wasn’t my first choice. I went to my GI appointment before they all yelled at me to go and threatened to call an ambulance if I didn’t. But luckily all the staff at the hospital that day were super nice!!! One of the nurses held me the whole time and stroked my hair too! I definitely haven’t always had good staff, but I’m so lucky that day I did! I probably would have been a bigger mess if I hadn’t lol! I know how awful POTs can be though! I hope your symptoms get a bit better soon!!! Sending good vibes your way!!!🤍🤍

Holy crap! That's crazy! I thank my lucky stars I don't have any heart conditions of any kind. I do have an allergy to amoxicillin (which was diagnosed in 2020 prior to the COVID lockdown) when my doctor prescribed it for a sinus infection. Then again, I have also taken a BLS course (aka CPR/AED training) back in 2013. Best to be prepped for an emergency! That "posterior" electrode I noticed is an AED electrode in case you went into cardiac arrest and they have to resuscitate you (much like what I was trained to use in 2013). I recall how my sister had a heart murmur when she was 14, but she's long gotten over it. I often document the things I go through with my ASD (I am autistic).

I had a severe episode of SVT in the morning at 2:30 a.m. snuck out of the house and drove myself to the ER. They gave me adenosine 3 times in a row. Didn't work, so they gave a beta blocker that did bring my heart rate to normal. Adenosine is such a weird experience that I can't even begin to describe it. Got an ablation in 2019 that fixed me, so it's all good now.

@caimacler540 I was wondering about that. The ablation is a game changer. I'm glad you got it done, it makes a huge difference in quality of life. I hope you are well. From what I have been reading, there is a fairly recent development in treating the arrhythmia symptoms. Diltiazem has been shown to be just as effective without the horrific side effects. As for myself, I would never submit to.adenosine unless I received something like propofol first…. I had several episodes of super ventricular tachycardia back in the mid to late 70s. I have been wondering why they never tried to give me that back then so I just looked it up. It seems it really came somewhere around 1978, so I guess that was one of the very few lotteries that I won my life. That wasn’t in yet that often.

Interestingly enough, adenosine wasn't even FDA approved until 1989! So you definitely missed it by a while. I'll be very happy for others if they can come out of SVT episodes without adenosine, that was certainly a horrible experience. But it was effective for me. I guess I can't be too upset when I know it saved me!

Find a good electrophysiologist and get an ablation. You will feel so much better. I had SVT for years controlled on a beta blocker and then one day blacked out while driving and wrecked. Had an EP study and ablation and not only did I have SVT, but also atrial flutter and atrial fibrillation that nobody knew about. They fixed all 3 problems and I felt so much better.
