I read the Manga and watched this episode twice now, but only after the second time did I realize that. Apparently X-Less actually DID do something to help the heroes! Nice to know he wasn't JUST fodder, killed-off to emphasize the stakes and give Shigaraki a badass cape.

There's a scene I wish they included from the manga, just a small one, where during this horrible incident the number eight hero Wash, the literal Washing Machine, used his power of bubbles to float entire bunches of hospital evacuees off the ground, making him one of the most important heroes in that moment. It's still a great scene but that was one of the big moments they could've shown off why he's so high on the rankings.

BONES did an amazing job with portrayig the horror of Shigaraki(even the background music is amazing).I randomly started tearing up even as sb who already knows the story just from the pure fear of Shigaraki, they mastered how to create tense and uncomfortable atmosphere. Often times in anime I find myself wanting some extras to die, Horikoshi managed to create a story where I want everyone zo be happy and alive.

I had to watch this twice because it was just mindblowing. I knew Shigaraki was going to be powerful but now I am wondering how anyone stops him. Also that Girl with the green energy calling for responces from Endeavor and everyone at the Hospital was so eerie. I mean I assume they made it out, they are to important to not have but we didn't see it and that makes in tense. How do I live with only getting one of these episodes a week.

We do see Endeavor, Ryukyu, and Gran Torino (and I assume everyone they are carrying. I could not make out Aizawa, but with as close as he got, I assume they would have shown him die if he did.) very briefly flying out of a cloud of dust. It is right after we see the Pussycats trying to stop the decay with a wall of mud. (16:53 on the version I watched.)

I don't think it's ambiguous in this particular instance- Hawks had no choice but to kill Twice before he could threaten any more lives. He made every effort possible to disable him nonlethally, far beyond what is expected of your typical law enforcement officer when facing an armed suspect, and only resorted to lethal force when all else failed and seeing Twice was about to use his quirk to attack other heroes. Hawks did nothing wrong. His actions here were both justified and ethical.
@marianarobles7735
@marianarobles7735 Жыл бұрын
Also, let's keep in mind that realistically, Twice's quirk is the most dangerous one out of the whole MLA, he could basically create infinite Shigarakis, Gigantomachia and High-end Nomu if he had their measures, so if Twice didn't comply, there was no other option but to kill him as the danger of having him alive would far exceed anything else.

True, if anything the only thing hawks did wrong was giving twice so many chances (and in doing so got another hero killed)
@grinstrashcan
@grinstrashcan Жыл бұрын
In terms of real life - sure, he did nothing wrong, but in this story being able to reach out and save people’s hearts is part of what makes a true hero. Which is what Hawks failed at, thus having to resort to killing. He didn’t fail at being a cop, but failed at being a Hero (and it’s even more obvious when you remember that Jin’s name means ‘humanity’). Maybe you should actually consider less how certain things would be treated in real life and more how the narrative of this fictional story (with pretty clear messages and metaphors and etc) does? P.S. And no, while murder can be completely justified, it’s never ethical.
@TechnoArpan
@TechnoArpan Жыл бұрын
@@grinstrashcan It's good to talk about ideals, but actually following through isn't the best decision or even a good one in all cases. this is one of those. Countless others would be killed if twice lived, so yes, Hawks made the right choice
@grinstrashcan
@grinstrashcan Жыл бұрын
@@TechnoArpan again, strategically - yes, but the story doesn't treat it as a good thing, because hawks failed as a hero - he fucked up the way he approached the matter from the beginning. it became necessary to kill twice only later, because hawks' failure and dabi's appearance made it the only option left, but this situation didn't start out that way.

All that effort to stop Shigaraki and the high ends all for Shigaraki to awaken and kill them all instantly. With so many top heroes already out of the fight such as Mirko and Hawks I don't know how Endeavor stops Shigaraki almost by himself while the other heroes have to deal with the war and Machia. On top of that the Dr seems confident that just Shigaraki and Machia are enough to turn the tables which is worrying as we haven't seen what either of them can really do.

So before we get going, I’m just going to say these next few episodes are going to be me at my MOST analytical. Let’s get into it shall we? Let’s start with Shigaraki waking up. In the manga? I’m going to be honest, I REALLY appreciated the anime change. They didn’t explicitly show X-less cause Shigaraki’s awakening. They showed him look at the machine, and the moment he did, the spark conveniently woke up Shigaraki. This one was X-less trying to insure the materials that almost made Shigaraki (and then proceeded to actually make Shigaraki) never be used to make another. That is a MASSIVE improvement. Because a number of months ago I was actually looking into how the hell his heart just magically restarted and couldn’t come up with a reason why. Also demonstration of Shigaraki using decay as he pleases, he decays X-Less but not the cape. Old Shigaraki couldn’t have done that. So that’s complete nuance control of the quirk. That is some INSANE nuance from a man who does not know restraint well. Also few things I like about Shigaraki’s design, all his injuries from MVA remain. Something not made clear in the manga. He still has the charred arms from when he destroyed Deika City. And although it wasn’t shown in MVA anime, Redestro tore off Shigaraki’s fingers in the scene where he crushed his hands so he couldn’t decay anymore. (So it’s implied in anime they were just amputated later during his many surgeries and torture training after anime MVA occurred.) Respect on Tokoyami’s name for escaping Fat Gum. We saw Fat Gum shrug off blades that were building length long in season 4, we know he doesn’t care about bullets, and when Monoma explained why he can’t use stockpile quirks, they showed Fat Gum taking a MISSILE AND NOT CARING ABOUT ITS ACTIVATION LAUNCHED AT WHAT WE ASSUME IS FULL SPEED. And Tokoyami just ESCAPES him. And I hope the dub keeps the original lines of the manga of Fat Gum in this chapter. When Tokoyami escapes and Fat Gum chases him, he says “Don’t think I’ll let ya Dine and Dash on me like that!” And I LOVE that line. And when he almost gets crushed by Mount Lady’s…assets, he says “Some bun’s coming in hot!” And those are just genuinely funny one liners I wish they kept for the anime. Was holding out for the dub, but sadly no. So actually I should mention why Dabi says you’re pathetic to drag a bunch of students out here. It’s not implying he thinks Tokoyami is weak, especially when we know the League tried to kidnap him. (Which was Compress improv. No one gave any order to do that.) He’s saying it’s pathetic that the heroes in this operation thought they needed STUDENTS on standby. And as all the villains know NOW, this is ALL OUT WAR. And Dabi proceeds to have Tokoyami question what he’s fighting for in protecting the status quo. And when Tokoyami upholds the status quo caring for his teacher, Dabi just gets pissed and says you’re not thinking for yourself. Which…everything Dabi said was sadly true. Much like Stain it’s used in VERY twisted fashion, but I can’t outright disagree with what he says. I can’t tell you how many people get HYPED for Todoroki on Geten’s entrance I’ve seen already. (Todoroki is helping civilians and I don’t think he’d explode at Mount Lady. It’s funny how I never see someone catch that.) And as we know, Dabi and Geten are actually quite equal in power output minus longevity considering their MVA performance. Not just because Dabi failed to kill Geten, but because the reverse is true too. Machia is awake. The heroes don’t really have any contingencies in sight for stopping Machia other than stopping Shigaraki from waking up. And we’re already too late for that. Let’s leave it there. Next we got the evacuation being calm, IMMEDIATELY halted by the BIGGEST chills as OFA the 1st warns ALL the alarm bells for Deku. And what a speech that is. I LOVE IT but my GOD is it freaky. A transcendent one approaches, freed from the shackles of humanity, his power now swells. Stop him. As Deku holds himself from the sheer pressure of the order. That is OFA telling Deku: YOU ARE IN CHARGE OF STOPPING THAT. THAT IS WHAT ALL OF US DO AND HAVE DONE. Little do people seem to realize something. The final scene to speak of in depth is FILLED with nuance. Here is what the anime has told you. Shigaraki is at 75%. Deku is at 45%. And I’ll ask you this. Of what are we comparing that to? Because if there’s something VERY obvious, if Deku were at 100% and a bit more than twice as strong, would that compare to what we just saw Shigaraki do with decay? I can tell you right now. No. No it would not. We are REALLY getting into what makes my OFA theory. Feel free to disagree, but let me try and prove my point for what we know at this point in anime. I have tried to tell people Deku can’t POSSIBLY be learning 1% at a time based on just how GIGANTIC of a difference there is from each increase in %, and there’s no way it can be Deku starting from All-Might power. (All-Might kinda proved that by MANHANDLING Deku and saying Deku’s 100% blasts are a 5 out of 100 in season 2.) And because of that, I came up with a system that works best for the story, and I think Horikoshi truly is using this system. As Deku’s max control increases, his stockpile arsenal also increases, all to master what was given to him when he received OFA. 1/60th of what All-Might could do 6 years ago. (If All-Might could only use 1/60th in season 1, I don’t think he could pass the full 60/60 either.) All-Might has a blazing vestige, and OFA is always described as a raging inferno. If that is true, I think the walking inferno man IN OFA likely has a LOT more flames. Can’t use them since he’s crippled and all now. But they ABSOLUTELY seem to be there. (So by my theory Deku is about 1/120th of OFA at its absolute best.) Want to prove me wrong? Tell me when and where Deku’s quirk increased by a MULTIPLICATION OF 60 TIMES. And I’ll wait because when you go to look, you will NOT find one. That being said, Deku at 100% is still in league with MANY top pros as do a number of his classmates. So chances are they’ll redefine pro power later. Shigaraki on the other hand…proves to be on the spectrum of PRIME AFO. 75% of the FULL 60/60. What was missing in the last 25%? Don’t know, but we’ll see. That decay wave made the United States of Smash look TINY. Probably because it was PRIME vs 1/60th pushed to max. It made DEIKA look small. And is it the best Shigaraki can do? I HIGHLY doubt it. If that ENTIRE LAB was dedicated to giving Shigaraki the quirks of AFO…what we saw…was decay WITHOUT OTHER QUIRKS BEING STACKED. (And I don’t think it was 25% of his quirks are missing. I think that’s what was being forcibly injected into his shock treatment BEFORE he went in the tank.) Oh and he has quirk deleting bullets. Many are gone, but he has a FEW and that’s INSANELY dangerous. The ONLY good thing is that even though Shigaraki must have COUNTLESS quirks, he doesn’t have 200 years of experience using it and practicing quirk usage like AFO. So…even though our main protagonist is about 1/100th of the main antagonist, that would only be for certain the case of Shigaraki was fully mastered of what he has. And as INSANE as the decay demonstration was, that should be ALL he has mastery of. We are in for a WILD RIDE. I’m still fine tuning my theory as we go, because I’ve been WAITING for these scenes to be animated as this is where it’ll be best to show feat progressions and such.

I wouldn’t say that this is the greatest moment of Shigaraki’s life, or something he’s always wanted. From the speech he gave to Ujiko in S5 we already know he feels like he’ll never feel relief or happiness ever again, even if he destroys hero society (because he believes that the thing that he really wants is impossible for him to get). It’s *not* what he always wanted, it’s just the only comfort for not being able to have what he wants he has in mind. Destroying brings him only a momentary joy/relief, and he knows it. There’s no real satisfaction in it. This ‘destroying everything’ plan reads a lot more like tired suicidal abandon, especially with him believing there’s no ‘future’ for him. So in a way, this moment is less of a triumph and more of a ‘Yeah, thought so. This is the only thing I’m able of doing’ moment.

Greetings Goodwin, Thanks for your continued reactions of this amazing series. Before you watch the next episode, I highly encourage you to rewatch the final episode of season two (Encounter). If not the whole episode, at least watch the conversation between Midoriya and Shigaraki in the mall (the most important part). Deku and Shigaraki have literally not met face to face again since they talked; the experiences they have had in their respective journeys, the clash they are about to have, all of it started with that conversation they had in the mall. So, I think it is worth watching that conversation again, considering the title of the next episode. Cheers, co is

An interesting thing with Tokoyami and the hero kids in general is that they are in a society where it's black and white. Heroes are the good guys and villains are bad. So that when a hero does something they know is morally wrong, they can still see them as a hero because a hero has to be good. So the wrong they committed has to be justified and the right choice. Dabi said it right. They're brainwashed by the system they are in, and currently, are on the same path as the current heroes who see all heroes as heroic people, while villains are the worst of society. Without seeing the gray in-between that makes them all human. They dehumanize the villains while putting the heroes on pedestals. Kinda like with Endeavor and getting offered a chance to atone by his family because he is a hero. So while he has his flaws and abused and neglected his family, causing his wife to have a metal breakdown, beating his children, having a dead son (who he admits is his fault) because he's a hero he has to be a good person who just made some mistakes in the past. And he's given the opportunity to become better. Meanwhile the villains, who we've seen be neglected or pushed to the bottom by society and find acceptance amongst the outcasts. They're treated as irredeemable and bad people. Just because they are victims who no hero saw worthy of saving. Shigaraki was abused at home and then ignored and never offered help even though he was a child lost in the city. Toga had her quirk suppressed because it was deemed creepy so when she snapped she had no choice but to run and continue doing what made her feel normal. Twice got a criminal record and never had an opportunity to return to "normal" society and continued falling further so he can survive. Twice was killed because he refused to be a bad person and betray his friends. But because he had the label of villain, he was seen as a major threat to the rest of society so Hawks justified his choice of killing him for the greater good. Twice even argued about this very thing with Hawks in 6x03. Why do the heroes get to choose what is good and bad and force people into one category or another?

6:00 Regarding your spiel on Tokoyami's thoughts on Hawks: This is quite clearly paralleled within the Number One Hero, Endeavor. He is not a good person. (at least he was not. There is still the debate as to people changing, but that does not apply to this situation) He is a great Hero. When Tokoyami said that "Whatever you did was justified" it immediately struck me as the wrong attitude, although that is in part due to my distaste for absolutes. Tokoyami will likely find out that Hawks was doing some shady stuff. And in a sense, it could be justified, but it is still morally wrong. (EG Killing Best Jeanist?) His attitude at the moment could lead to "the ends justify the means", which can get messy really quick. Or it could lead him to reject the whole Hero system. It just depends on how things play out, and how he responds to them. Regarding Shigaraki's new power: Shigaraki's powerup brings up the idea of overwhelming force back into the limelight, but instead of it being on the heroes side, it is on the villains. With Allmight gone, there are very few heroes who can output the level of raw power it would take to stand up to Shigaraki. Aizawa can help to level the playing field, but he has very strong limits. Endeavor might be able to do something. At the very least he could potentially keep Shigaraki at a distance. Ryukyu, Fatgum, Kamui Woods, and Mirko all have quirks that Shigaraki can effectively render useless. In 1A the only ones who have even a snowball's chance in flames to do anything would be Bakugo, Todoroki, and MAYBE (at this point) Midoriya, although the last one would take some plot armor at this point. Anyone who relies on close combat is right out. Kaminari, Jiro, Aoyama and Present Mike (not a studen, but throwing him in here anyway) all lack the ability to put out a finishing blow, so could maybe support, but would do nothing on their own, especially since they lack a method to stay off the ground. (although Uraraka could help with that, it would leave them mostly helpless in the air, free to be picked off by any enemy quirks in the area. As I see it, the keys to standing up to Shigaraki (although we don't know what other quirks he got in the tank, or what else he will pick up with All-For-One) are 1: The ability to stay off the ground, so the spread of decay will not instantly kill you, 2: The ability to fight at a distance, so that you are not touched at any point by decay, and 3: Some measure of raw power to land a finishing blow, so the fight does not drag on too long. Luckily, the Number One Hero, Endeavor, happens to have all those abilities, so he is currently our best bet for doing anything to Shigaraki, although I am thinking that he will not be able to pull it off, and it will fall to the kids, especially Todoroki. He has a better quirk than his father, as he can balance the heat with the cold. He can use the ice to temporarily slow the decay (not much, but in a fight it would be something). We have not seen him fly, but I am sure he will learn soon, as we have seen a LOT of his dad doing it. (he seems to prefer riding the ice, but that would be less use against Shigaraki.) I am really excited to see what new developments we get, and what strategy is made to combat this new All Powerful Force, but those are my current thought on it.

I think Deku learning All Might's mentor Nana Shimura's quirk, float, will be crucial for him to be an even match against Shigaraki.

Also most people that are anime only have forgotten but nana's quirk (all might predecessor) got revealed last season as the next quirk he has to learn. She had the quirk float.

Wouldn't call this a spoiler but more of a reminder so read at your own discretion. It was mentioned in Season 5 after Deku acquired Black Whip (by I think All Might) that the next power in line for Deku to unlock is Nana Shimura's quirk, Float. By the name I can only assume it's a flight based power. So deku has the perfect ability to counter shigaraki if he's able to unlock it and hopefully master it.

I think your point about Twice is kind of moot based on the events of this episode. Even just 2 of Shigaraki could be world ending, and Twice could’ve made an army of him.

Its funny seeing shigaraki is wearing the typical "red hero cape". Could symbolize a few things. Like given the way shigaraki thinks he can see himself as a hero in his own way. Also could be said that shigaraki is making a "heroes return" for the people counting on him in the league. Its just ironic itself that he is wearing the red superhero cape that is basically the big iconic clothing piece that represents a superhero. I am sure something better could be figured out with its symbolism but that was just a couple examples I just thought of right off the bat.
