By having her get taken out somewhat easily (or at least quickly) it makes it hard to buy the random first years putting in work. I, for one, don't think every person in the story need "time to shine" in the final arc. The story should have been much tighter. Not every student, most of whom have done jack all beforehand, should have been given so much screen time against one for all. On the other hand, if pros (that didn't teach at UA) were shown contributing it would have given so much more depth to the world. It's fine for the MC to be op at a young age but if literally every first year can pull more weight it just makes the world an incompetent mess.

The first fight bettwe Star and Shigaraki should end as a draw. Shigaraki was incomplete anyway, so let him escape the fight because of the injuries. Then just let Star and Stripe hang around with Deku and All Might. Then at the final battle she sacrifiece herself in order to weakening the complete shigaraki. And then Deku got the chance to kill him.

In my opinion, the incident with star and stripe was the moment I actually, genuinely was worried for the story of mha. There were flaws before, but this was such a baffling writing decision, on so many fronts, that I had to take a pause on the manga. it was also the precursor to what would eventually become the greatest flaws in mha. It was also a massive missed opportunity on Horikoshi's part to tie in the wider world of my hero academia to the story, but given how he's dealing with things now, idk if that would even work out anyways. Still confuses me to this day.

The funny thing is, if Jiraiya’s character was reduced to that fight alone, it still impacts the story more than Stars n Stripes. With his death, the heroes learned of Peins abilities and group, figured out he was being controlled by Nagato, and led to Naruto learning Sage Mode from the toads. Her quirk was too strong to keep her alive - that was the real mistake that got Horikoshi stuck. She literally almost bodied Shiggy and his pet Nomu by herself, with some assistance from jet-fighters, and only failed to one-tap him because he had an identity crisis. If Hori kept her alive after the fight, it'd remove all tension from the story. Deku + Stars vs AFO is a cake walk for the heroes. (Which is why AFO had Shiggy attack her before she could join the Heroes) And if he took her quirk, it'd be hard for the heroes to win without some plot-ass-pull that would ruin the story. She had to die. The quirk was too powerful - that was the key mistake. Every other problem could've been fixed, but New Order just ruins those options.

My only defense for Star is that none of the series focuses on heroes outside of Japan UNLESS you read vigilantes. Because she's a character that lacks focus in the narrative, I think that makes it okay that she has such a small role even though she's hyped up so much. She's meant to resemble the threat that Shigiraki now brings to the series. It's the worf effect.

Gege realised he needed someone to give this info to yuji so he could power up yuji but he realised he killed Yuki so this is now impossible. So out of nowhere Choso just says, "oh yeah here's this book that Yuki wrote all about the soul, dont question the fact that this has never been brought up". Given how much soul stuff is currently going on in the series, it wouldve made wayyyyy more sense to have Yuki be alive so she can teach Yuji and Ui Ui about the soul since they use the soul so much now. Tengen couldve just sent Choso and Yuki away since beating kenjaku is now a lost cause. Tengen already showed he can do this when he sent Choso away. Plus kenjaku would just take tengen and go, he doesnt care about yuki and choso. Just have Yuki sustain a permanent injury to the brain or something that prevents her from fighting, something like Angel

I think this highlights what very well might be my single biggest issue with a lot of modern Shonnen. It feels like authors try to speedrun through meaningful character development in favor of just getting to the next cool moment, and MHA seems to be heading down that direction ever since they revealed All For One took over the far more interesting villain Shigiraki

It really is a shame that Horikoshi only used her to bail himself out after writing himself into a corner; making Shigaraki’s completion time too short and Shigaraki simply being too strong for the heroes to fight since Shigaraki could have any arbitrary number of quirks stored. I understand the decision to nerf him, but this was not the way. I would have loved to see more of her. She had a cool power and as the top dog of America’s heroes, you’d expect a little more than what we got.

I feel like a lot of this could apply to Yuki Tsukumo and to a less extent Hana Kurusu. Yuki could have been an amazing character if we got more of her as a character and fighter but we got 1 fight with her where it feel like her real contribution to everything is her book and for Choso development. Hana might still redeem herself (you know the major fumble) but recently we've seen Angle's CT being utilized but her being relegated a background character immediately after her job was done. She must be doing something but until were shown it I can't say either were used well being pushing the plot and being used to develop other's character.

I think the best thing to do would have been just not to introduce her into the story at all because extending her role in the story beyond her fight with Shigaraki would have been tedious imo. We should have had an arc before this. Agter the first paranormal war arc, have deku be shipped to america to train away from afo. Train alongside SnS and have there plan be to have deku and SnS tag team shigiraki only for to inevitably have deku leave, leading into the villain hunt arc. This would push the characterization of deku pushing others away to try and carry everything on his own shoulders. And have dire consequences for this behavior. Than have SnS come to japan like she does, and lose/die. This would help with the heal turn deku has realizing he needs to help others and recieve help from others. And make her death more tragic as not only would we know her longer. But her death would impact deku greatly, in the same way all mights retirement impacted bakugo, and parallel the relationship between baku and deku leading to there apology being more impactful. Finally her final order about new order resisting afo should have been mlre impactful, and finally her quirk should have accepted deku, having him also wield new order in the final battle alongside ofa and the residuals

My biggest issue is that she fights shigaraki and stalls him for like, 2 weeks. All might makes AFO Mr.Potatohead and forces AFO to recover for years, YEARS. Shigaraki needed a few weeks and didn't have any permanent damage, AFO did. You can't hype someone to All Mights level then have them get deleted and not even damge the villain much.

This is what happens when you write yourself into a corner by giving a character a rushed and completely insane power boost without any sort of build up. Gege did it right. He set the pre-requisites for Maki, and executed it amazingly. And even then she still wasn't fully realized until later, and once she was, the payoff was satisfying and hype as fuck. Shiggy deserved better.

He shows the characteristics of why he was the strongest of his era, we get to see his personality through his fight with Hakari and his spectating of Gojo vs Sukuna, and we see why his technique was a one use (and I think at least) it was quite an impressive technique. Kenjaku saw him fight and directly said that the curse user he’d call the strongest was still easily Sukuna. (I think he said “It’s Sukuna, sorry but there’s no question” or something close to that). That made it clear that regardless of him going all out would result in his defeat.

@@ExcuseMyWeebRudeness Yeah I see your point. One thing I really hate about Kashimo's fight with Sukuna is that Kashimo immediately gets speed blitz. I get that the scene was about Sukuna teaching Kashimo a lesson and showing his power, but come on at least make 'The Thunder God' be able to keep up with Sukuna. Don't get me wrong getting speed blitz by Sukuna is by no means an anti-feat, but Kashimo was 'The Strongest of His Era'. Also we don't see him having a domain expansion at all. All he has is hollow wicker basket which unlike simple domain needs two hands to do which severely limits Kashimo since he is a close range physical fighter all the opponent has to do is disrupt his hand sign to instantly kill him. Kashimo could potentially run away till they drop their domain, but not only is that just out of character for Kashimo, but any sorcerers besides Hakari and Higuruma with a domain never immediately open their domain to start a fight they usually like to figure out their opponents abilities or see if they could beat them without resorting to use curse energy draining domains which means they have to at least be able to somewhat keep up with Kashimo on top of the physical amplifications their domains give them.

@@lilmatty2466 I do have to agree that never seeing Yuki and Kashimo’s domains (assuming Kashimo had one) is a big negative. Him having Hollow Wicker Basket is likely just a product of his time period. I’m pretty sure New Shadow Style: Simple Domain wasn’t a thing back then. But him having a domain that, say, used a sure hit to alter the electricity in his opponents body would have been cool as shit. Maybe have him snatch the Kamutoke and run rampant with it would be nice too.

I’m a defender of Star and Stripes 100%. I was fine with her pushing the narrative of MHA with protecting the next Generation. But with you bringing up the Jiraiya comparison I see what your perspective is. After thinking about it more Hori could have had her kill off the decay quirk later on which would have led to Shigaraki being weak enough for AFO to make his big reveal and take over Shigaraki’s body completely like in the manga.

I think theres a point that everyone is missing, star acted as a way to show why no one was getting involved in this big disaster in japan. we already know they were trying to dispatch foreign heroes, and i think this was what he used as the catalyst to ensure there was no interference in the final arc. That way he could focus on the characters that mattered most in the story.

Finally someone narratively understands Star & Stripe's role and no (anticipating counter argument) AFO saying he has allies around the world that could make each country to focus on itself didnt stop the process of heroes trying to be dispatched in the first place and it didnt stop more independent minded heroes like Star & Stripe. Star & Stripe was used to put the nail on the coffin in terms of further and more concretely deterring foreign nations from interefering in the war. Also what AFO said about having allies around the world that could stir trouble was never a guarantee that countries would remain neutral but hey guess what would halt these nations with no second thought? The top hero of America dying to a threat who wasnt even at 100% yet.

Wouldn't it make MORE sense to send aid to neutralize the major threat if they'd just killed your most powerful asset? America didn't get spooked when Japanese fighter pilots kamikazi'd Pearl Harbor. They retaliated with full force. Things would have gone radically different if suddenly an entire country 10 times the size of Japan sent their top heroes to end Shiggy. Whatever ploy AFO could muster in the US could only occupy so much time and energy since all his efforts were focused in Japan.

I dont think you actually understood the sheer power, cuz literally not that much later we see just how many heroes which is a team of all of them it takes to contain and fight with that version of shigaraki, the one that was weakened by his fight with her and she basically did better holding him off mostly by herself, that is a huge compliment to just how beyond broken star and stripes was, cuz just imagine what they could have done if it wasn’t just her and her pilots fighting shigaraki but literally all the other heroes that came to fight him later, shigaraki very easily could have lost as she would have had the backup of so many heroes, plus her quirk did in fact weakened shigaraki and substantially too, his regen abilities were severely impacted, prior to her invasion he casually took multiple missiles directly and was constantly taking lazors like nothing, so her power and quirk was a beyond broken power and one that was very justified in all for ones scared precautions, a team of all the best japan had left could barely hold shigaraki off that includes eraser head constantly trying to neg his powers in addition to the copy guy doing the same Within the show Stars and Stripes is easily top 5 quirk users

imo, Star is an example of the US throwing overwhelming force at their problems even when more nuance is needed for the problem presented, as well as a way to show that All Might's influence, while inspirational, will push heroes to their graves. You see the same thing in Deku thru the whole series. Self-sacrifice is where prodigies of All Might land at because he left such an imposing presence in the hero society, and to try and fill his big ass shoes is an even bigger ask. Star feels like what Deku would have ended up as if he didn't have Nighteye and Eraser in his ear saying, "Maybe don't blow up your arms to catch a villian."

Honestly if All For one/Shigaraki lost their op quirks like regeneration and more it would make Stars impact much bigger. Heck my main problem with My Hero is the All For One quirk itself since we don’t know many of AFOs quirks that have been stored up and thus when we thought Stars did some major damage we come to find out that AFO only lost some inconsequential quirks which was pure bs to me, Regeneration should’ve been destroyed with Stars and that’s a fact.
