We all love to dream of a world where we have superpowers, but would that dream become a nightmare. Two very different series, the boys and My Hero Academia have different takes on what it means to be in the superhuman society. So come along as we examine what being in the superhuman world means for these two different series.

The thing is that The Boys treats superheroes as celebrities while My Hero Acedamia treats superheroes as role models. In The Boys it portrays superheroes as fake and two faced, only caring on popularity. In Mha that popularity problem still exists but it's emphasizes that inspiring the public to be good people and use their quirks to the benefit of society is also as important (a good example is all might)... It's basically that The Boys bases it's self out of capitalistic America while MHA bases it's self upon the controlling Japan.

@@lobstermagnetreview I think the ranking in BNHA is exist as a merit system to encourage heroes to done good deeds more. Japan has more control government in nature so heroes in BNHA are more of 'public servants' than a 'coporate celebs'. Even heroes agencies in BNHA are regulate and sanction by the governments. It's show how different Japan run things compare to US.

I think the middle ground is that Hero Society at the start of the show was in a calm and peaceful time when crime was at a major low. People could relax and Pro Heroes weren’t spending all of their time fighting Villains. A celebrity culture grows given how prominent Pro Heroes are. Luckily the system was already designed long before the rise of this celebrity culture. The first heroes were vigilantes until laws were passed to regulate Quirks. All For One was also dominating for a long time to the point there was even an active resistance against the guy. Pro Heroes were public servants first with the celebrity stuff coming afterwards. Of course many heroes after the Paranormal Liberation War walked out because they saw the job as being too hard, but many Heroes still stay to keep up the fight.

I would say that My Hero Academia handles the Super Human Society better because it's an actual super human society, The Boys just has super humans in a debatably nihilistic distortion of our current society instead of of a society build with super humans it's super humans forced to fit our own and it might play out, like trying on a pair pants without anything in the pockets and it's perfectly passible and now then to find a place for your cellphone and wallet and not resort to handbag of some sort, because it makes the area across the crotch too tight. MHA is like a building constructed from the foundation up, The Boys is like adding a deck to the back of an established house with out having measured the area of the back yard.

The core difference between MHA(despite its terminal flaws) and The Boys, is that MHA comes from a place of at least some reverence towards the idea of Superheroes, while The Boys comes from a place of despising it. Overall, I feel like Invincible does a better job than either or both at being critical at as well as positive with the genre.

In a realistic super hero world, society would go back rule of the strongest like it was in tribal times when raw human strength could make a big difference in the (back then) small battle field. Super hero powers means once again one person can make an outsize difference. Ie one person has relatively A LOT of power compared to the entire society. What happened then would happen again. They'd become the ruling class and Nobility. They'd marry among themselves because having super powers would become an identity. Also because they want to maintain their power like powerful families in our world do. People would form states around the top tier world destroying super humans. Lesser heroes will pledge themselves to these top tier super humans and normal people will be either like serfs or pets. The idea that say anyone would force say a Super Man or Green Lantern or Flash to do *anything* is ridiculous in the face of it. Oh, expect a lot of infanticide too. After a super human grows up and causes world changing destruction, many societies will start killing any children with any hint of super powers. Ps: Same goes for fantasy worlds with powerful magic users. Realistically they'd gravitate to the top of society and form a ruling class. Honestly there are so many ways a society with super heroes would change. Thinking about it makes you realize how completely shallow the world's of DC and Marvel are. Even Manga do it way better.
@ProjektTaku
@ProjektTaku Жыл бұрын
@@MA-go7ee the problem with dc and marvel is how they don't really focus on worldbuilding and how heroes and villains would fundamentally change the world. You'd imagine that with the JL heroes would become incredibly organized and would become like a job, with other countries having their own heroes as well, and organized villain crime, with heroes and villains clashing on streets being a regular occurrence, and heroes like superman being major celebrity figures.

I think in terms of handling a superhero society MHA is certainly better. The thing that I like so much about gentle's backstory(and also other villains) is that for me at least I can't even blame the system in mha. Despite all his heart gentle was a very incompetent person. Also I don't particularly find it problematic that Heroes like midnight and mountain lady want fame and money, as long as they do their job properly. So for me at least mha raises some interesting question without blaming anybody even the system.

Gentle's case is very intersting because it's the story of a guy who wants something so badly, but just doesn't have the talent or competancy to achieve it. Like a guy who wants to be a fire fighter but can't pass the fitness test.

I think that if the characters from MHA somehow ended up in the world of The Boys…oh would that be fascinating to see. I mean, most of the characters in MHA are teenagers, and their minds haven’t been as fully developed yet, so they could be easily manipulated and taken advantage of by the Seven, ESPECIALLY Homelander. And oh god, what if he is in a room with Uraka? That just makes me sick to think about it. Those poor kids would be heavily traumatized by the events in the world of The Boys…and would be in for a horrible wake up call for those involved. Also, I could just imagine Vought taking over the Japanese government and getting rid of the League, and then forcing the kids to do their bidding.

Okay, what if UA Students ended up in the world of The Boys? Well, most of them are going to react a bit like Starlight and the characters from Gen V, shocked at what’s going on behind the scenes. Those with more abrasive and arrogant attitudes could be lulled in, though luckily they would have their classmates to keep things in perspective. The bolder students who have a strong sense of justice might try to expose the truth, but if this is in the earlier seasons, they probably would get slaughtered by Homelander and the Seven. If it’s in the later seasons, the students would put up a better fight though only a handful of them would actually be able to take on Homelander. I expect they would emerge grateful their Hero Society is nowhere near as depraved, but they would be cautious to ensure things never slide down to such horrible extents.

I feel like The Boys TV series writes it's Superheroes much better than MHA because it has a consistent and clear view of how it's gonna portray it's Superheroes by showing them as being corrupt, hedonistic and egotistical thanks to how they are treated as celebrities and corporate products who can get away with crimes thanks to the PR machine of Vought who are desperate to keep their heroes image clean to ensure they keep on being profitable. With MHA it seriously feels like they have no idea of how it's heroes are gonna be like? On one hand they are supposed to be role models and heroes of justice, on the other hand we get characters like Stain who criticizes many of these pro-heroes for being "fake" who only becomes one for selfish reasons like fame, wealth and power which would be interesting to explore the corruption of hero society, yet nothing comes out of it with Endeavor, symbol of everything a hero should NEVER be, gets an atrociously contrived "redemption" arc that comes from nowhere and Stain's entire character purpose gets quickly forgotten, as if it was completely pointless. Then there is also the fact that it's hero system is beyond flawed and broken thanks to bad writing. First example would be how genuinely good people like Koichi can never become heroes unless they get very contrived and needlessly complicated reasons to even have a chance of being one while villains like Number 6 can get a hero license super casually without any inconvenience that makes the so called "heroes" look grossly incompetent and outright idiotic. Second example is how the supposed "requirements" to be a hero is inconsistent. Quirkless people can't be heroes because "it's too dangerous" even though there are a solid amount of heroes with quirks that range from weak to completely useless as well as the fact that based on the physical feats and skills of Stain alongside the advanced technology of MHA similar to Marvel and DC a quirkless person with great physical training, martial arts, weapons and gadgets would be much better than a lot of heroes and fight evenly those who have somewhat strong quirks thanks to their skills and versatility compared to those who rely entirely on one single superpower with specific ability and varying levels of strengths and weaknesses. We also see how guys like Shinso failed to get into UA hero course because his quirk was ineffective against robots which not only raises the question of how some students like Toru, Kouda and Mirio became hero students despite their quirks but also why Shinso just didn't apply to another hero school that doesn't have the absurd "destroy robots" as part of the entrance exams? This is what happens when you try to write Superheroes without any solid vision and foundations for how they are gonna function properly.

@@lobstermagnetreview I find it particularly weird that MHA is a "love" letter to American Superhero tropes when there are some it either refuses to use or even actually belittle and that would be the non-power Superhero trope that is common in Superhero media. In the first chapter All Might says to Deku that he can't be a hero because it's "dangerous for quirkless people" which would be fine if it wasn't for how this message gets ruined by three facts. First is that MHA, just like other Superhero works, features people capable of great physical feats and abilities when training body to peak condition with Stain being a great example, proving to be a great threat with that alongside being a great weapon user and having a quirk that can be substituted with poison without much issue. Second is that technology of MHA is similar to other Superhero works where the potential to create gadgets and other sorts of tech weapons to help fight against foes with a superpower is there given how the series has robots for goodness sake. Third is that while there are some powerful heroes that a badass normal person would have a hard time defeating there are plenty of heroes with quirks that have weak combat capabilities, have weaknesses that can be exploited or in some cases are downright useless for fighting, making me wonder what on earth All Might was smoking when he said that? It's weird because a quirkless person with great physical training, martial arts, gadgets and weapons have more versatility than almost all quirk users due to how it's only one specific superpower with varying levels of strengths and weaknesses. The fact that Hori writes that "quirkless people can't be heroes because it's dangerous" despite all sorts of Superhero media featuring heroes without powers going toe to toe and defeating meta-humans and those with powers with all the skills i mentioned above makes me wonder what the hell went through his mind with the "love letter" he has for American Superhero tropes when he confusingly disrespects one? Also while both provide different views in Superhuman societies with The Boys it feels logical and consistent that has a purpose to it while with MHA it's so jarring, confusing, contradictory and flat out illogical that it breaks all believability in the series and makes the world and characters of MHA feel fake and artificial.

Homelander is not nearly tough enough to win that fight. Deku, Todoroki, Bakugo, Tokoyami, Kirishima, and Jiro are all strong enough to beat Homelander without any help.

How is the MHA government structure a Randian nightmare? The Libertarian position would be with the Meta Liberation Army's stance of deregulated quirk use, not the license restrictions of the government.

you just answered your own question. Ann Rand would hate the idea of quirk regulation and licenses regulated by the government. Basically allowing who can be great and who cannot. The ultimate libertarian fantasy of unregulated quirk use is what the Meta Liberation Army is fighting for.

@@lobstermagnetreview fair, I was interpreting you saying randian knightmare as a dystopia based on Rand's worldview rather than something she would have opposed. My bad
