What I loved about Todoroki is that he does not seem to be mad at his mother for giving him that scar. There is also no signs of hate as well because if he had, he wouldn’t use his right side too. My heart breaks for him but I do hope he will accept his left side because it’s part of who he is and he is NOT his father.

I remember Todoroki mentioning siblings somewhere in this volume. That manages to make his entire family situation so much worse. Does his dad consider the other kids failures because he mentions todoroki as the one he wants to surpass all might? I’m only on volume 4 and have never watched the anime so I am curious about his siblings and their relationships with Endeavor and the each other

When I learned about the siblings I just hoped that we will get to know them. I want to know how they feel about Todoroki because he seems to have all of his dad's attention. Do his siblings pity him, or hate him.? (Edited)

I'm super excited to read the Uraraka-Bakugo showdown, I absolutely loved that part in the anime so I can't wait to experience it again😄

OH my gosh... The Funkos falling XD. 1. 0:23 I am not organized either, but I am VERY good at making it look like I am. Lol. 2. 0:52 Prediction: I am not a big fan of Todoroki atm, but I feel like he's exactly the type of broody, damaged character that I will be trash for once get some more development. 3. 1:46 Okay, one in your defense, cavalry is a hard word to say. I always try to calvary instead. Two, I was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO mad at Ida for do that to Deku and Uraraka. The Ravenclaw in me understood the argument, but my Slytherin does not tolerate disloyalty (jk, I hope they'll make up and stay friends). 4. 2:00 I cannot fault your logic and I'm glad that we got to see more from other characters. (But I'm STILL mad about it.) 5. 2:50 I really wanna know what the Perv Who Must Not Be Named did to make you dislike him this much. So far, he hasn't done anything terrible offensive -- in my experience most teenage boys are little bit pervy, but most also grow out of it, so I'm... intrigued and concerned -- and also not bothered enough to know his real name. Lol. 6. 3:36 "This household is Deku stan certified." Same. Honestly, if anyone is NOT a Deku stan at this point I would question their morality. 7. 3:52 Wait, I'm confused... We literally see the headband get snatched and everything. We see Deku not succeed and have to scramble to stay in the tournatment. 8. 4:41 Yep, my prediction is seeming more and more likely. I'm such a sucker for characters with a tragic backstory and a chip on their shoulder. 9. 6:11 I don't know if he'll come to accept it or learn to control it, but that left side is definitely going to be a plot point. 10. I mean, maybe if I felt overwhelmed, but this entire tournament thing would overwhelm me PLUS I'm not really that athletic and basically I'm just not cut out for superheroing anyways, so I wouldn't even be competing. If he were a villain you'd be given information on his quirks and his weaknesses???? It was so freaking dumb. 16. 9:39 I mean, if this follows the formula of most shonen's like this, Uraraka is about to get her butt kicked. No way they let Bakugo lose. I'm sorry I don't know his name, but the bird guy really impressed me in this volume. I can see why you like him so much and I thought the idea of his powers being linked to the time of day was a brilliant one! Great discussion, but it does leave me wondering how many MHA shirts you own. Not judging, because I definitely own more Batman shirts than I can count, but I am curious.

2. Yes. 3. Let me appeal to the Ravenclaw in you some more. I think the whole purpose of the sports festival is to support growth and Iida seems like he understood that. Being with Deku and consolidating that friendship is great and all but in order to grow as a hero he needs to work with many different people and see different aspects of what he can do. He probably wouldn’t have pushed himself as much if he was on Deku’s team (and I support pushing oneself a healthy amount). This and 15 both seem like good choices in my opinion because they’re in a safe space, there are no serious consequences for failing so seeing what they can do in a disadvantaged state is good in the event that they have to face a villain in the future where they have to work with different hero’s or it’s a new villain whose quirks they don’t know about yet 5. 😂 He shall forever be known as the Perv who must not be named 7. I think it was that he didn’t succeed yet still managed to succeed and move on in the sports festival at the same time 11. I agree with you whole heartedly and that’s the advice I would give to them if I could but I’m also a hypocrite cause I would probably do the same thing. I would be thinking of the people that got eliminated and how, in this ability based competition I didn’t use my abilities and would be unsure if I deserved to be there 13. Related to my above comment I think Shinso used his abilities to its fullest abilities and to me that’s not villainous cause the other kids are doing some pretty dangerous things like causing a metal humongous robot thing to topple onto your classmates, willing to blast them in the face and setting off a huge explosion to get to first place that could have caught other people in the backlash. 16. The upcoming fight grinds my gears but gives me respect for the two of them (though I’m irked that the top students are all male)

2:00 Aggressively nodding head in agreement 7:14 *Sighs... what what what was this... deus ex machina?... I love the sports festival arc but Deku’s fights just nagged at me. Like he was brainwashed, he was done, why did his finger move? All Might’s explanation was completely unsatisfactory for me... I might have been able to buy it if One for All had shown some manifestation of mental powers prior, like he wrested control from Shinso because he had experienced that before but as far as the story has shown us it’s been purely physical. Even if it was guardians, it brings up a whole set of new problems, when do they intervene, why is it at a school festival and not when villains attacking them, how much can they do, is it only a twitch of the fingers or can they take control of him more??? I felt like it undermined Kirishima’s efforts to warn him and Shinso’s own abilities cause you know that scouts wouldn’t think that Deku is an outlier and that Shinso’s quirk is weak... 7:47 I think I always sympathised with Shinso cause he at one point said he was relegated to the support stream because the entrance exam used robots which he obviously couldn’t control... his quirk didn’t work in that instance but it’s not like it’s not powerful. As a person who doesn’t test well I can relate hard. I also feel like there’s some subtle commentary about the narrowness of the education system and how those who shine aren’t always the ones who will succeed in life... maybe (this is why I was also so gutted that Deku pulled out some All for One magic trick and got Shinso eliminated in the first round before he had a chance to show off his quirk properly cause you know nobody was paying attention to him during the cavalry battle) 9:19 I love that she did refuse (and with Iida wanting to go on a different team as well) because it shows that the three of them had a positive effect on each other, like a true friendship! She didn’t want to keep relying on Deku and remain stagnant, but wanted to grow in the ways she saw her friends growing. This I feel is the core of the sports festival, improving oneself though healthy competition, rather than the notion of being the best or showing yourself to the world

It's really sad, that MMBC doesn't get more attention... Well at least you will 100% see this comment! I liked all of those 1v1's, they really showed the students' quirks and their applications in combat. We should see more of that down the line and I think it will be nice comparing their strategies and seeing how far they've come! Also, on the characters. We haven't really seen most of class 1-A in depth (for now) Take, Kirishima for example. Even if he's sort of in the background right now, he was my favorite from the very start. I'm trying to catch up with the manga, and I will say, his arch (or origin, I guess) was awesome! It really bugs me, that backstories of him and others weren't reviled a bit earlier. (Don't get me wrong, not at the very start, but around volume 10 or something like that...) Then, the characters would be more real and relatable Although, I can see why these students weren't fleshed out earlier, that would be too cluttered. We are still learning how Deku's quirk works in this stage. These characters and their stories would just get lost under other new information. Later, when that dust settles, Kirishima and others will be able to rise up! Really like your vids BTW :) Edit: just realized, that I kept rambling about future volumes and didn't really address volume 4... My point still stands tho!

Really enjoyed this volume. I was happy to see Ida go on his own. It was unexpected and sets them up to be more independent later. I would probably want to be on Todoroki’s team just cause it was so well thought out. Hahaha, yeah, the headband grab was extremely convenient. Agree with Bakugo near the end of the cavalry as well. Endeavor is totally trash. Though he’s a super interesting character to me since he’s a hero but not a good person. Poor Todoroki. If he does accept that part of himself, I think it’ll take a long time. As far as dropping out, I don’t think I would, personally. But like you said, I commend them for following their conscience. Hahaha, the creepy One for All eyes would be an experience. Glad it’s Deku and not me. I had the same reaction to Shinso’s quirk. And felt bad later too. I liked the idea of the eyes/previous One for All hero’s being guardians too but I feel like that could’ve been really cliche down the line so I respect it not going that way. Ugh, Todoroki and Endeavor’s relationship is so saaaad. Like, I totally get it, cause Endeavor is super abusive, but still. And yeah, Todoroki would be hecka powerful if he used both halves of his quirk. Personally, I was proud of Ururaka for not taking Deku’s notes. Like Ida with the cavalry battle, I think it’ll make them stronger in the long run. Not exactly smart, but respectable - just cause I think hero’s should use every resource available. But still. Thanks for heading this up, Jesse! I’m really enjoying it.
