In this video I talk about my new HiKOKI tools (formerly Hitachi). Recently HiKOKI sent me their new line of MultiVolt and 18v tools, and in this video I talk about the new 36v MultiVolt platform, test the tools alongside some Makita and Hitachi 18v tools, and go through my opinions on each of the tools.

A good overview, Keith and it's great that Hitachi/HiKoki are willing to give you this opportunity. It's normally something I'd only expect to see on a channel across the pond. I'll be interested to see how you get on with the impact driver and its multiple speeds. I've always thought that features like that would mostly benefit someone working on a building site, day in day out but I'm sure it won't leave you short of power. ;-) Speaking of which, the 36v Vs. 18v circular saw test was VERY impressive! A few years from now, 36v could be the standard, as 18v has been for the past twenty years. Looking forward to future videos. Great to know that you're donating the old tools to a worthy cause. All the very best.

The main benefit with having the motor housing on the left site is, that if you hold the saw with your right hand(as most people do) and you finish a cut, you have the bigger part of the saw base sit on the bigger, clamped down pice of wood(becaus your normaly cutting with the fixt part in front of you and the part that will fall of next to you) and the saw is not swinging down towards your legs.

I’m a fan of hitachi (hokiki) tools. I have 2 drills, corded circular saw and 18v brad nailer. So was interested in your review. The new 36v is amazing, especially the circular saw, it left the other two in the dust. Thanks for doing this. Only downside is the cost and as I’m a weekend woodworker I can justify the cost at this time. But it was good to see.

Why on earth would they change their name, lose brand recognition, and start from scratch? In the US the Hitachi name is being replaced with "Metabo HPT". Sounds like some sort of diet pill.

Hitachi power tools were made by KOKI Holdings - a sub division of Hitachi essentially. KOKI Holdings also own Metabo. In the EU/Asia market, they've gone for a combined name "Hikoki" (Hitachi+KOKI). In the US Metabo HPT (HIKOKI Power Tools). I'm not sure but do you already have access to Metabo power tools in the US? Surely there'll be some confusion between Metabo and Metabo HPT if that's the case - unless they'll be converging the Metabo and Hikoki brands in the US. I can see what they've done but can't see the need tbh.
@JohnJones-oy3md
@JohnJones-oy3md 5 жыл бұрын
Metabo tools in the US are apparently geared towards professional users (you won't find them at the local home improvement stores). Not being a pro/contractor, I honestly never heard of them before Googling it. I can see Hitachi trying to appear more up-market by using that name, but I think most DIY consumers in the US just won't get it - "Metabo who???". That and the fact that Metabo is/was a German company, now owned by a Japanese company, with tools largely made in China. It all gets kind of murky.
@BischBaschBosch
@BischBaschBosch 5 жыл бұрын
Same over here too. Both Metabo and Hitachi are/were aimed at professionals if slightly lower cost than big name competitors like Dewalt, Makita, Bosch etc. I agree I doubt folks'll get it. Have to say though, tried the Hikoki nailers at a demo recently and was mighty impressed. Seems like Dewalt and Senco finally have some decent competition in the 18V nailer market.

The base plate for your saw is wider on the left, which is the better side for stabilisation. And all that dust blows to the right, away from the user. I Hav3 a Makita left blade, bought it thinking it'd be better for right handers. My cuts were wobbly, and tilted esp. on thin cut. I was also covered in man glitter. So I threw away all my jigs, made proper left handed versions of them. Then woodworking became fun again.

Hi, pretty new subscriber here watching your older videos. I've noticed you've gone from HIKOKI, to Makita and currently to Milwaukee tools, replacing each time almost all your tools in each category. I understand how attractive it is to have new tools plus the additional income you get from the manufacturers, but anyhow I wanted to ask you which one of these 3 brands do you consider has the higher quality and longest running batteries. Is there any specific tool you miss and would like to still have from Hikoki now?. I find so interesting the multivolt technology and even more with the AC adapter they have developed.

Never mind the tool.... Where can I get me a pair of those killer shorts?? 😁 Great review though Keith.... I talked to the Hikoki guys yesterday at Coventry ToolFair event and had a good look at their stuff and I've gotta say.... Its looks to me like they've gone out big guns blazing. I can't find much fault. Weather we can get folks altering from the default 'go to' mentality of either Dewalt or Makita is another matter.

Thanks! Yes time will tell if HiKOKI can get a good share of the market leaders, but it’s great for us “consumers” - more competition, better tools

So what is your comparison supposed to show? Expensive is better than cheap?
