I think everyone needs to find out what works for them. I’m glad you decided to do what’s best for you. I’m sure you feel as if you have more control now that you’ve tried the experiment. Even tho I didn’t experience what you did when I skipped every other day for 3 years….. due to side effects…. once my healthcare provider finally listened to me and put me on something else, I remained undetectable the whole time. I never became intolerant to the meds. Everyone has a different chemical make-up. There isn’t a ‘One all; fix all’-tho USA healthcare wants to believe thats the way to treat patients; it’s not. Sometimes we gotta take charge and see what works for us. I do NOT recommend anyone try to skip meds if they aren’t undetectable. If their numbers are up, never skip meds. If someone decides they want to see if they can skip days, be undetectable for at least a year or more. Also make sure you’re on the same med-not in the middle of new meds. Your body needs consistency. So undetectable for year(s) and on the same med for year(s).

I was one of the people who said don't do this, why are you compromising your health. However, listening to your latest podcast I fully understand why and thank you for being experimental. For me in Scotland, where HIV treatment is exceptional, 6 months supply at each 6 monthly visit, undetectable is classed as under 50 copies. We have to learn to respect HIV ,as it can and will overpower us if we let it. From day one on my diagnosis (June 2018), my HIV specialist said take your daily med, eat well, keep fit, don't smoke and you will have a fit and healthy life, which I have. Its encouraging the progress is now developing a weekly pill and I'm sure when that is available my specialist will advice of that. Again I offer my thanks for demonstrating the need to still take a daily pill, without any missed doses

There are lots of people who takes meds every day for all kinds of reasons. Your ‘why’ here is totally understandable and I feel tons of compassion for you. I hope you know you are not alone and most of humanity takes daily medication and as annoying as it is it’s not a stop on your ability to decide anything for yourself. I hope it feels more like way for you to continue to make decisions for yourself! Glad you’re healthy and happy today! I have to go take a pill now…. Lol

The 1993 famous paper on population dynamics of cd4 count and viral load showed that in order to remain undetectable, the treatment must kill each day 30 % of the hiv copies present in the body. This explains why skipping your ART treatment for a day reduces life expectancy by two weeks. BTW, I would try to have at least one extra bottle of your meds as backup.

Also, I commend how mature and honest and self reflective you are about why you chose to reduce your meds

Ur body is probably extra sensitive to things. U need to use one type of soap. Only use dove bar soap, specifically, for 'down there' and u wont have any issues like that anymore. U were travelling and probably used the wrong soap. Do not use the shower gel version either. Only the dove bar soap, original scented. Dont even use the other scents on that area. Plus the bv also comes from not using condoms and whatever the guy is eating or putting on his member like lotion or lube, and that can linger inside u for a while.

Some people who get hiv have an initial first sickness, immediately after infection, as you know. And it can sometimes go away for awhile, months or even years, but of course then starts to slowly tear down the immune system and become aids. I wonder if your body wasn’t used to having hiv, because you were undetectable, and when your numbers went up, your body took it as a “new” invader and you became sick. It will be interesting to find out what your doctor thinks, hope you let us know.
