The coolant expands as it gets hot. Thats why in cars there are radiator caps to hold the coolant under pressure. Your cooling system should not be open as it is. The expansion tank is supposed to hold a certain amount of coolant so when the pressure exceeds the rating on the cap, it will fill into the expansion tank, and after the engine cools it will draw the coolant back into the motor. Also, I'd drain the coolant out and put fresh coolant in without the stop leak. Stop leak is a fast way to ruin everything you have built. I was in a state of shock when I seen you pop that can. I know what your reasoning was but it was wrong reasoning. You should use a normal auto thermostat that has direct contact with the coolant. Using the set up you have isn't going to give you the correct coolant temps, your set up is going to run cooler because the adapter is going to run cooler.
@Desmouffe5 ай бұрын
I don't think my engine can stand to be under pressure. It will not hold water, and to put in a normal auto thermostat will lead to mayor changes on the heads. My system is based on MX and enduro motorcycles that works fine and my fan starts at 65 dgr C. It's true that the temperature will not be constant and close to boilingpoint but it's fine with me. This engine is just for fun and will not be used for anything.

Absolutely massive pat on the back to you, you accomplished so much and I must thank you for sharing this seires with us. I absolutely love the way you implement idea to action and trouble shoot. Also unless you actually plan on using this during winter, I would use a 20% mix ratio on coolant. Glycol is thinner than water and will penetrate areas water wont. Just helps with leak preventative. I'm glad there will be more videos to come! One ask I have, in your next video can you show your findings? Even if its just photos of work, but would love to see more details. Top stuff, Id buy you a beer if I could!
@Desmouffe5 ай бұрын
Yes. That was a dilemma. Since I have cast iron sleeves and other parts that may rust I wanted good protection against corrosion. And a 50/50 mix raises the boilingpoint to ca 108 dgr C. But as you say it's bigger risk for leaks. And yes, I will try to give you full coverage of what's happend

Add bars stop leak to an engine only once its up to operating temperature when running, (after thoroughly shaking the can), its the little bits that do the sealing when they melt.

So disappointed that you had issues with this. Was very much much looking forward to it running well. Glad to hear that you’re not going to give up. Maybe you will consider a welded design for the intake? 😊
@Desmouffe5 ай бұрын
Yes. The intake manifold I used brazing because I hadn't bought my TIG at that time. And a MIG weld can be quite clumsy. But I only had my prophane gas burner tro heat the pieces and it wasn't enough. Now I will use sheet metal and my TIG.

A RATHER COOL LITTLE V-8!!! IN THE 1930s FORD CAME OUT WITH AN SMALLER FLATHEAD V-8 , WHICH WAS CALLED THE V-8 60 RATHER THAN THE STANDARD V-8 85! IN THE FULL SIZE FORDS OF THE DAYS IT HAD INADEQUATE POWER FOR THE JOB!! THIS ENGINE MAKES ME THINK OF THIS SMALLER FORD FLATHEAD!!
@Desmouffe5 ай бұрын
Yes, the old Ford flatheads are classic engines. Today I almost regret I went for the flatplane crankshaft instead of the crossplane. A crossplane crank gives a much nicer sound but the flatplane was easyer to balance.

The head gasket has nothing to do with the leakage. Water from the cylinders leads up in the heads by a nipple sealed with o-rings that works fine.

To get a regular temperature, you should be Driving it ,Those motors were designed for air cooled, What you did is a added benefit , I cant see how that's going to be a big deal. How hot is it Getting sitting in your Garage. I would Think as long as you Have good Oiling, know matter those motor are air cooled. temperature at cylinder head should be 250-270 and exhaust side 400 degrees, and That should Have gone up Being you have a Full cylinder head. Maybe 300 to 350 at Cylinder. what are your Temperatures. Just wondering.
@Desmouffe5 ай бұрын
I have only had it running for about 4-5 min and temp on the outside of the heads was about 70 dgr C. The exhaust gases that comes in to the system accumulates in the right cylinder head and there I have seen ca 150 dgr C. Air in the waterchamber in the cylinderhead disturbs the circulation.
