I got PRK too, but the doctors warned me about the pain and the 3 months healing process before and that made me scared. I researched it a lot and only found posts on online journals so I was scared of doing it since no one posted a video explaining their experience. Great that you made one telling us your experience, I'm sure this will make people more comfortable. I had -7.00 in both eyes and now I have completely clear eyesight better than 20/20 (I could read the smallest lines on the eye chart!!) My recovery was smooth, and I was nervous before the procedure but was given a relaxer (which they force you to take) and was fine when I was under the machine shockingly 😂. As for recovery I barely had any pain most was a 3-4 one time, and I only took one painkiller the whole recovery period. I was kinda waiting for the immense pain to hit and it never did thank God. The surgeon was literally shocked. I did have my eyes mostly shut for 4 days, all I could think about was it will be worth it in the end. I also had a huge amount of tears (literally a waterfall)I would open my eye a little and out came a waterfall streaming down my face. But honestly great vision makes it worth everything you go through it's just amazing! My vision has been perfect for over 2 years now! **People have been asking for an update since I posted this years ago it's June 2020 -My eyes are amazing, the best still most perfect eyesight. To be specific I got Custom Wavefront PRK which is basically customized for your eyes, so I don't have any problems at night at all like some people may have after any lasik surgery (halos, starbursts etc). If you can go with a Custom option it's great!

Hi Morgan... I had PRK done 20 years ago and I remember the healing process to be similar to yours. I lived off lubricating eye drops for a while and I slept with the eye guards on at night for like a couple of months because I wanted to make sure it healed completely. Hardest part was wiping eyes since I was told not to "press" anything on the eyeball - fanning a tissue over the eyes does not absorb tears. LOL. Now that I'm approaching 40, my eyesight has remained great and is only starting now to "age". Hang in there! You're doing great!
@KriegerO3116 жыл бұрын
I am about to have PRK and having some second thoughts. When you say your sight is starting to "age" are you just needing reading glasses, or something else? Do you have any other issues or side effects like glares or halos? 20 years ago is awesome! That makes you one of the pioneers! Curious on your thoughts!

@@Rraina1 Everything went really smoothly. Most expensive 10 minutes of my life. haha But if I remember correctly, they tapped me at 20/15 vision about a week after I got out. I think my right eye is slightly less than that, but not enough to cause any trouble. The paint was minimal, even without painkillers afterward (getting makeup in my eyes hurt worse to be honest), and the whole thing about being able to go back to work the next day is completely true. I took the weekend off, but still. I was absolutely fine by that evening. No problem. The only downside I encountered is that my night vision is a bit worse than before, and lights at night tend to get a bit of a starburst pattern around them. So I'm not really a fan of driving in the rain in the dark. Apparently this is something that tends to go away within 6 months for most people. I'm just one of the unlucky ones it stuck around for. But seriously, it's a pretty minimal downside in the grand scheme of things. Overall, great experience, and a great life improvement investment. :)

I also had prk on both eyes and I was in so much pain for about two weeks,I was given opiate pain meds the day of surgery and I at first didn't know why I got those and the rest there didn't... After surgery I well understood why. On day two I couldn't even open my eyes no matter how hard I tried due to the pain and my eyelids couldn't open at all They poured tears for about four days. I had to get a prescription eye drop and lube to relax the muscles, numb and lubricated. I felt like I had gritty sand scratching my eyes for almost a two year period every morning I woke up or took a nap. So I ended up having to put a drop of lubricating drops into the corner of my eyes before u could even open them, then had to leave my eyes closed and gently roll my eyes to spread the drops. The only plus side I had from this was my vision was perfect after. After wearing glasses and contacts for almost 19 years prior to surgery it was a blessing to be able to see upon opening my eyes and not having to immediately reach for my glasses. I advise anyone getting prk to really research and get others input on their prk experience before getting it done.

Heya. Got PRK done on Tuesday. Hopefully they said I can get my contacts out tomm morning, very early 8:20 appt. Been watching a few of your guys videos. Similar story to you with wearing glasses. My PRK recovery has been very light, in addition to the drops and Vitamin C, I incorporated E and Fish Oil and cold press jucies, especially 🥕 for a hopefully quicker recovery. I almost had my contacts out on Day 3 which is generally the absolute earliest, but it looks like it will be Day 4. Vision is still sorta blurred and that's been my main issue.
@tri0xin2 жыл бұрын
Hey, any follow up? Did your sorta blurred vision clear up? Any other negative side effects? Thanks!
@21DegrassiStreet2 жыл бұрын
@@tri0xin My epithelium is not healing correctly in my left eye. My doctor put me on Muro eye drops and ointment before I sleep. My right eye is nearly perfect. My left eye experienced a slight bit of trauma when the contact bandage was removed and part of my eye tissue came off with the bandage and scratched my cornea somewhat.
@tri0xin2 жыл бұрын
@@21DegrassiStreet Hey thanks for the follow, I hope it all clears up for you in the left eye. I'm not too worried but I'm 48 and hoping my healing goes smooth, I've been doing some research and it's looking like the chances of any problems seems to go up with the age of the person. Thanks again
@21DegrassiStreet2 жыл бұрын
@@tri0xin No problem. And it's unlikely. One thing I've realized is the information is vastly different from one person to another. Like my bandage was almost out in 4 days, which is very early. I also had no pain at all after PRK. I've had on and off pain during the healing process only really with my left eye. But I was very disciplined with keeping my eyes closed. Make sure you contact your physician if anything comes up you're uncomfortable about and try your best to be very dedicated to following your drops schedule. That's why I got set back, part of the reason. It's because I wasn't using the ointment at night to help close the opening and it was getting re-opened in the morning and I'm basically setting back the healing process. I've had blurry vision for 4 days this week straight, my longest since the procedure. I'm surprised but not at the same time.

Thanks for sharing. My son wants this done but its like 3,000 per eye where we live. There is only one place that does it. Guess Seattle would be cheaper

You could practically fly down here and back for cheaper than that! Maybe you should look into that?! That way you could squeeze in a little mini vacation :D haha

Thanks to sharing this! I’m also considering doing PRK, your video is really helpful! 1. I don’t understand when you said that you can only see 90% clearly, is it also happen when you looks very closely to the text or subject? 2. After a year can you feel100%clearly like you had glass before?

I did Lasik and so glad i did it instead of PRK. Screw that junk! Lasik was no pain and vision was corrected as soon as the procedure was completed. No painful recovery and no waiting for corrected vision to come in. Why people do PRK is beyond me. Unless you absolutely have to have PRK only, and you really want the corrected vision, then fine do it. But know the pain is bad and it takes weeks to months for the vision to finally come in right. Lasik is instant and no pain or recovery!

LASIK has more side effects and it's less stable though.

If anyone is considering getting laser eye surgery, please, please think very carefully. The fact is laser eye surgery is extremely dangerous. I've had it done myself and it has ruined my life. Years on, my vision is the worst it has ever been and I am still in pain. In fact, most people who have told me they have had it done, have also had some kinds of problems, many of them serious and life-changing. Research seems to bear this out, suggesting that the majority of patients have some kind of problems. Please take anything you are told by the companies with a pinch of salt. If you are still tempted, make sure you seek advice from an independent optometrist or ophthalmologist who has nothing to gain by you having surgery.

I have a lazy eye (born with it), and started wearing glasses around age 9. My vision is slowly getting worse, and one of my eyes is worse than the other (I don't know the exact numbers) and I've recently seen this one Groupon for 43% off lasik allowing me to get both eyes corrected for about 2000 and as a broke college student (paying out of pocket/working two jobs) that's quite a lot lol but I'm hoping to save up a bit and eventually be able to get a consolidation because if I don't get my eyes corrected I'll eventually go blind (it'll be a few more years I believe but still)! I haven't heard of PRK before your video so I'll have to look into that as well and hope that one day I can get my eyes corrected, hope you make a follow up video on the improvement! Best wishes!(:

I have a corneal thickness of 530 microns for both eyes (-6.5 for both eyes and a slight astigmatism on left eye) and the doc said I can go through PRK or even LASIK, but after looking at some videos and interviews all of them are talking about LASIK complications and how it can affect again long term as more corneal tissue is removed when compared to PRK. But PRK has more recovery time and they said it will be 2 weeks but after watching this video and some others who got PRK seem perfectly fine after just a week. My PRK surgery is scheduled on March 28th and I am traveling (to Sydney - 26h flight) on April 20th. So I have the following questions: 1) A little bit confused still whether to go for PRK or LASIK! Can anyone suggest? 2) Just want to know how much do you depend on climatic conditions and on your ophthalmologist? 3) Is there any redness? 4) I am basically very sensitive and more reflexive when it comes to eyes (Rachel type in Friends...haha), even while putting drops I blink as a reflex :D

Thanks for sharing your experience! I wear contact lenses, -8.50 and -9.00, but I have never gotten up the nerve to see if I'm a candidate for lasik and now I need reading glasses too so I don't know how that would work. Anything to do with my eyes is just scary, but it would be awesome to be able to wake up and see clearly for once! I hope your eyes heal nicely and soon you'll have perfect vision! 😊
