Wow i feel very inspired and even though I am still studying school years I now have lots of ideas but I feel I am not clear of what to do in life but there is still lots of time I have my boards next year!!!!

The culture gap happens in american schools too, not so much with international students per se but if youre in an elite high ranking school youll find that half the kids went to a private boarding school and it does feel like the gap between public school is pretty huge

Firstly, congratulations on passing all your classes!🎉🎉 That's awesome stuff - I knew you could do it💪 Secondly, don't worry about feeling inadequate with your results compared to your high school scores. I, too, was an A-student, but university humbled me fast. It humbles all of us; and it's not because we're worse off now or that we aren't working as hard - as you say, it feels the complete opposite - it's just that university is an entirely new ballgame. 90s and even 80s are a rarity... so don't set unreasonable expectations for yourself. In fact, chuck all your expectations from high school out the window, and I promise you'll get used to it :) - a fellow uni student who was humbled pretty hard in 1st year

Thank you so much! I appreciate your support! Haha yes college is definitely something different, but I suppose it's just a matter of getting adjusted to the new learning format/structure/grading scale. Thanks again for your encouragement, and I do hope that it only gets better from here!
@geasderlinasdwsxcdeasd24 күн бұрын
yep, that's really no need to compare yourself with other people. as an international student i myself, i could really relate to yourself. GPA doesn't matter that much, as long as you keep learing. Gap do exist, culture difference could be huge, and learning another language and use it in your study is a whole new level. and also bring you a new perspective
@eveyang36223 күн бұрын
Totally agree! At the end of the day GPA is just a number haha, and what you learn through your courses is what counts. Studying abroad has definitely provided me with a new perspective and forced me to take on challenges I've never encountered before!

I felt exactly the same ! I came back to France after a semester in Beijing, it almost felt like it was a dream or something. Nothing had changed while I left, and my time in China flew so fast too... Not that I absolutely loved it, it was cool nothing more. Pekin is just so different than what we are used to ahahah.

You are in the VERY TOP university in China and you survived the first semester, that is already huge achievement! I was the 2nd place of my province in 高考 and my GPA was 29th of my class which has total of 31 people. It was really struggling and painful to see my horrible grade😅 But I was telling myself not to give up and to try making progress every semester. And indeed I got dGPA/dt > 0 over 4 years. So 加油!

If gpa > 0 means it’s necessarily good because it can be 0.1 and progress will be worse over time

I’ve heard it many times before, where stellar high school students face academic difficulties in college. It makes sense since the level of competition is different, especially at a top ranked university such as Peking U.

Ask yourself, where do I see myself in 10 years? What kind of job do I have, and where? Before I started my studies last summer, I didn’t really give this enough thought. I started looking online, watching a lot of videos, and realized I actually want to do something else. I think the biggest opportunity cost would be having a job you don’t enjoy. Speaking of grades, where I live (nl), grades are on a percentage scale, similar to china. When comparing these grades with US grades, however, you’ll see that 75% would already be considered an A in the US system. Grades in the 90s are almost unheard of, so there’s definitely a lot of grade inflation going on. Don’t compare yourself too much to the higher US grades, because China is definitely more difficult.
@eveyang36225 күн бұрын
That's great advice, and I agree! Yep, the grading scale can be quite different depending when you are, and it's been quite the adjustment process haha. I really appreciate you sharing, and thank you for your encouragement!

It makes me sad that she is transitioning to finance from medicine. Medicine helps so many people and finance is the exact opposite of helping people :(
@calvinstevens549124 күн бұрын
I mean, sure, if we presume finance doesn't help people (which I don't really see unless the universities are teaching them how to launder money lol) that still doesn't help the fact that she doesn't seem 100% passionate for medicine. I'd rather the world's jobs be full of passionate individuals than individuals who feel like they owe the world something. Besides, there will be plenty of other people with a passion for medicine entering the field; rather give them the spot. If Eve enjoys finance then I'm happy for her, and you should be to! And let's not dismiss finance - there's plenty of need in the world for finance; so better there's a passionate finance student than a hesitant med student.
@eveyang36224 күн бұрын
@@calvinstevens5491 I completely agree and love your perspective! I think at the end of the day everyone has different passions and is entitled to pursue what they truly enjoy. Medicine is a very respectable and admirable field, but I simply decided that it wasn't for me. I know that there are countless talented and capable individuals that will continue down the medical path, and I applaud them for it. Finance is in fact what interests me the most right now, and I look forward to continue exploring!
