as a passive korean fan this shit is jus disappointing bro… a team with so much potential and some people calling the “golden generation”pointless beef , incompetent coach , a federation that clearly doesn’t give af sad times

Been a korean football fan for the past 20+years and I have never been this disappointed. KFA is trying to switch gears from Klinsmann and the KFA president 정몽규 and to blame the players when they should protect their own players. 정몽규 needs to come out and take the responsibility

After the dinner, Kangin and other youngsters were playing ping pong making so much noise that Sonny wanted them to rest thinking about the game against Jordan but Kangin and two other youngsters complaint and Kangin said something very disrespectful and went against his instruction and even threw a punch for holding his shirt.. All of the senior members, Hwang Hee Chan, Kim Min Jae, were angry towards Kangin and went to coach to bench him for what he did but Klinsmann refused. Kangin has been known for his temper and arrogance in the team being youngest of them all and disrespected senior members as if he is something. Koreans want Kangin removed from the team and fire do nothing coach Klinsmann. Son is the one who guided the team doing Klinsmann's job for Klinsmann has no clue how. It is totally jackass thing to disrespect older person especially if you don't follow captain of the team and his instruction. Koreans are very angry at immature brat like Kangin and know that he has been a toxic to the team spirit.

Kangin was by far Korea's best player at the Asian cup. Maybe the other players should focus more on their own performances. In my opinion, he is allowed to rest and relax however he wants. It seems like it was more of a power trip from the older players who are jealous of him.

@@elsaker5273 Soccer is a team game and no one should be tolerated if that person is toxic to team spirit. That is why you have captain in the team to do so. Son is still the world class player who is already proven while playing a position that is not his main role whereas Kang In is still long way to go to prove himself. One person's arrogance can break the team like it did in Asian Cup. There is no room for someone who go against the captain on and off the pitch. Otherwise that team is done.

Koreans want Kangin removed from the team? Then Koreans must be out of their minds if they want the future of Korean football in Kangin removed from the National Team. Kangin was removed from Valencia and thrived at Mallorca now PSG. Maybe Kangin will take citizenship in another country if Koreans don't want him, a country like China(they will give Kangin a ton of money and welcome him with open arms), he will thrive there and build a god status for himself by helping China qualify for WC. Is that what Koreans want???

KFA sucks. Klinsmann sucks. We’ve always known that. Even before today we knew they needed a complete overhaul. On this one… you can’t just deflect the blame entirely away from the players. This is a clusterfuck all around. And it’s a bad look that unfortunately reflects poorly on our two biggest superstars. I will always have the players’ backs, and I do get your point…. but it is ludicrous to focus on the KFA and Klinsmann when players got in a fight over ping pong. At the end of the day, they were the ones who fought with each other.

You criticize Klinsmann for not babysitting the team. But the players asked him to bench Lee Kangin over this incident. He refused. Are you saying he made the wrong choice? And he should have benched Kangin? You know if he benched LKI you would have never forgiven him.

@@jlee2383 I totally agree with everything you say! Even if Lee Kangin acted as childishly and impulsively as they say, (but I personally suspect all parties involved are probably to blame for this one, including the captain Son who I am a big fan of) I cannot believe that they asked the coach to bench him! Such an important player in such a crucial game! rather than all of them trying to make up (I hope that this is not true though and it didnt happen like that) ... But if that is what actually happened, the coach seems to have taken the right and sober decision here

Very acute insight. After doing some research from a variety of sources, it does seem like the larger issue at play (outside of the KFA/coaching) is a clash between the younger and older generation of players on this roster. It's almost a microcosm of Korean society itself - Older generation is very structured and rigid while the younger generation rebels against this. At the end of the day, I really hope this leads to a revamp of the current structure of the KFA. Chung Mong Gyu is like a dictator who has absolute power and operates under antiquated ideals. The fact that he would allow a story like this to be released and spread shows how little he cares about the players and fans. As much as I hate Klinsmann in Korea, it was Chung who hired him so he should be held responsible.

Koreans love Sonny very much, so we are very worried that he will have a hard time with this incident. There is a lot of criticism against Lee Kang-in, but above all, the anger towards the KFA and the president, Chung Mong-gyu, is huge.

I don't see much anger towards anyone besides Kangin. Korean "fans" are wanting him removed from the team and his military exemption to be revoked. They are threatening to boycott anything that he is apart of like his KT brand deal, and had all his pictures removed from every KT store in Korea. At this point, i hope that Kangin just stays in Europe because Koreans are overdramatic and too sensitive about an incident that we basically know nothing about. All the articles say different things and conflict each other. How are Koreans too braindead to see that? Teammates/coworkers have arguments. Its normal for people to not get along all the time. This is sports, not a kindergarten classroom. Even after his most recent game with PSG, people were mad because he smiled at fans that came to see him and overanalyzed his facial expressions. Like do y'all not have a life? He already apologized. What more do you guys want from him? I don't remember him having an argument with all of Korea. I didn't know that Son Heung-min was now everyone in Korea. If he is kicked off the team then i hope that the Korean national team losses every game they are in after that. Then the "fans" will see just how much of a mistake that they are making. Once Son Heung-min leaves the team then the national team will have nobody left and the fans will be mad forever just like they were after the Jordan game.

There are so many players who can replace toxic, disrespectful Lee Kang In (LKI) at the KF team. Nobody wants to see LKI s disgusting face again especially representing the nation. Son might have forgave LKI’s mutany but Korean people clearly cannot. On top he botched the Korean team from winning the match against Jordan, because he internationally didn’t want to pass to Sonny or the senior players. His popularity will never reach the previous level again as Koreans uphold good character over having good skills, and he has revealed his true character-what will change the utter disgust people feel when they think of his name

I don't like Klinsmann one bit, but seriously, are you going to blame him for every little thing that is happening in the world? Think about this calmly for a bit and you will see that blaming him all the time is a very lazy and childish reflex. Heated arguments happen every day in sports teams, and then the next minute they get over it. You should not expect nor want the coach to babysit or control them all the time. These are grown up, professional men we are talking about.

@@tsin002 I can turn this around and say Son is the captain and he should be setting the tone.... but I am not saying this, because I understand that things like these can happen... yes sure, fire Klinsmann, I agree, but for the tactics he used during matches. not because a bunch of grown up men argued about whether they should be playing ping pong or eat together. no one can control every little thing about their players, nor should they. Do you think that in the most successful teams the players never have fights with each other? This is normal, when the adrenaline and the testosterone run high. Blaming EVERYTHING on the coach just because we need an excuse to let him go is tactless and unfair. Do we need to destroy people and their character before we fire them? Just fire him in a professional manner, is that not possible?

@@marinajari I'm glad to see this comment amidst the emotionally charged and childish ones written in Korean. Son Heung-min is regarded as a deity in Korea, untouchable, so criticizing him is not accepted. As you mentioned, clashes between players with high testosterone levels are common, and they often reconcile shortly afterward, gradually learning to respect each other. Lee Kang-in is a young player, but it seems Koreans don't wait for such a player eager to learn, which should be given time to gradually gain respect through processes like this incident. possibly because he disturbed the revered presence of Son Heung-min. I can't understand this. Lee Kang-in is a player who has been competing against players of different races with different emotional backgrounds since he was young, building his own style. However, Koreans seem not to engage in constructive criticism but rather attempt to ruin the player's life altogether. It's like dealing with a criminal. (However, generally, Koreans often follow others' opinions rather than presenting their rational opinions. It's just a matter of empty noise accumulating without substance. This is similar to the People's Court in China or the witch hunts in medieval Europe. Koreans are very sensitive to social morality based on Confucianism and strict hierarchy based on age, but this kind of morality itself is subjective. And they continue to divide between 'good and evil,' they cannot view situations with rational eyes. Son Heung-min is 'good,' and the rest are 'evil.') Moreover, Koreans tend to value personality more than skills. Therefore, some people think that even if one has excellent skills, if their personality is poor, they can harm the 'team,' leading to the collapse of the team. I agree with this reasoning. However, many Koreans seem to justify harassing Lee Kang-in, bringing up any reason, because he disrupted my idol who has been deified. So, they relentlessly torment Lee Kang-in, even delving into minor issues like table tennis. Using this logic, even Klinsmann faces criticism. Of course, I'm not personally fond of Klinsmann's tactics or managerial skills. If you've liked football and Lee Kang-in from before, I believe you should create an environment where that player can criticize his mistakes and grow. However, Koreans are too emotional, and there are also those crazed by Son Heung-min's fandom. Or because of people who don't properly watch club matches and only occasionally watch national team matches, they only see a part of the picture and blindly criticize. Looking at Korean comments, more than 95% are childish and emotional. So, I deliberately watch English videos where there might not be many Koreans. That's more objective.

@@antoinedoinel400 thank you for your comment! I actually love Sonny and I am a Tottenham fan because of him. But he is human and he can also make mistakes, like every one of us! I think in this case, and since we were not there to witness the incident, we should assume that all players involved were responsible. But that incident should never have turned into a big thing because arguments like that happen all the time. It only became a thing because they lost the next day. What saddens me the most, was that players asked for Lee Kang-in to not play in the semi final! Rather than trying to get over it! So, it isn't just the public against Lee Kang-in, but the players as well... I really hope that this did not happen and it is misinformation.. Surely winning the opponent should have been the ultimate priority here over punishing someone.
