Honestly, I don't think someone needs to finish or even play all the games on the list to be allowed to vote and have that vote be considered legitimate. After all, we don't have all the time in the world to play all the games to completion. For example for me the Indie game of the year: Out of those six games, after watching other people play them, only a single one seemed interesting enough to make me want to give it a try. If only one of them seemed good enough to make me want to try them out, should that not be proof enough that, for me at least, the others are instantly disqualified for getting my vote?

I think one of the reasons is that the game is very difficult for new players to get in simply because of how overwhelming it can be for new players. I played a bit of Star Citizen last night and yeah…it’s definitely close to a complete game now, the only thing I hate is the inventory management, but since the game is so ridiculously complicated I guess that comes with the territory. I do wish it was less of a simulator and more streamlined it takes away from the fun, more than you might think. Go play it and you’ll see what I mean, of course once you launch your ship into space and start exploring…oh man that’s what this game is all about.

These categories need some work, how does bg3 get nominated for game of the year, best adventure, best rpg, best strategy and even best indie adventure. But it's not in best indie rpg, best indie strategy or best indie game of the year. I agree, Oily Timothy is unique in art. Its different from Bloodborne bcuz Bloodborne is like gothic + disgusting gooey monsters while Lies of P is more like Bioshock, clean + steampunk + victorian era. For me Final Fantasy and BG3 is just generic medieval era with fantasy elements, so many game have this kind of medieval era theme, BG3 only good in narative and voice acting bcuz the interaction between characters. Also why is Heisenberg in Content Creator of The Year nomination?

The thing with Baldurs gate's world is that it already has established lore and is adapting it from the world of DnD 5e. You cannot change that world so large extents or else you stop being a DnD game. Heck the games name Baldurs gate is one of the most important cities in DnD and the game is named after the fact.

I have about 300 hours in BG3 and I can't recall any of the music like I could with DOS2. It is a great score but nothing I listen to over and over. Meanwhile I've listened to Phantom Liberty a zillion times. BG3 winning wouldn't bother me because they deserve all of the awards but the music hasn't grabbed me like it did with DOS2. A lot of Phantom Liberty did grab me.

​@@jmalonemythwell thats ok since best music is subjective but as somone with nearly 500 hours on this game who jist veat it for the 2nd time and am going to start a new playthrough again i got to say that i had the opisite expirence having completely memorized the lyrics and melody of nearly every single song in that game because how good they were. First time i remember hearing "the leagacy of bhaal" i restarted my save just before the boss fight just so i could listen to it again. And now its my most listened to song of the whole year acourding to youtube music. Same goes with rapheal's finile act. It was one of the best momments in the game for a lot of people when the music kicks in and rapheal starts singing his own boss theme like a Disney villian. Hell even some of the lesser tracks like "twisted fate," or "gather your allies," or even "bard dance," were very memorable. All around it was a great ost in my opinion but you think differently thats Toatally ok though we all got our own tastes

The definition of indie games is self made and self publish. People argue that having a publisher will have an advantage because they financially support the developer such as marketing, resources and have the decision to change things. Thus it immediately disqualify them as indie developer. Making game is hard and I think they deserve helps and not forfeiting the title of indie. Question is the advantage. Anyone can make games. A group 5 fresh graduates with no experience will have disadvantage against people who have 3 years of experiences. These people with 3 years of experience will have disadvantage against 5 veterans with 20 years of experiences who had published multiple AAA titles, wide connections with professionals, more cash in hands, knowledge of how the company and overall the industry works. If they are making an indie game, I don't think any of these guys should disqualify the indie title. The smaller dudes can get helps from publisher and that's fine. I'm not here to defend any big coorporate stepping in the indie scene. If they said they do not affect the decision making. I won't believe it, no one will believe it. But if these 5 veterans contacts friends who still working AAA game at a big corporate to join them developing the indie game, that's fine. Or even know who should outsource the work to somebody such as retired veteran who becomes a freelancer. That's ok too. These smaller dudes has no way to compete with the big guys. I think they can get whatever the help possible if the game budget is within acceptable amount. There is no specific numbers. Every year everything is getting expensive, inflation hits, many external factors. Even the cost of AAA games are getting higher. Some corporates remain the same budget like 100M because they refuse to increase it, so the game is getting worse with every release. The lines of defining indie games are pretty blurry. But we can agree that indie games should just be games made with smaller budget. So this VGA is 100% fans vote, it's just a popularity contest. PlateUp! is a 2022 game, so it shouldn't be there.
