I just left GameStop as an Assistant Manager and YES, you figured it out. They don't have extra copies but not many people come and pick up their preorders, so just go back on Sunday and see if they have any preorders that weren't picked up and they will have to sell it to you because they only are required to hold preorders for 48 hours. GameStop wont last long operating like this but its just the way things are going these days. Great video BTW. Peace!

@@vanburen20my GameStop does the same thing if you don’t pre order you don’t get one. The Walmart here is outselling them bc they get more copies and sell the games cheaper now than GameStop. Manager at GameStop told me they know physical games are leaving soon and GameStop is trying to specialize in toys and other merch to survive.

I just heard about a guy who lost all the points he’s earned over the last 20 years as a Pro member. The grand total was 409,000 roughly. They changed the policy without sufficient warning and they all “expired” one day apparently…

Yeah I’ve been a pro member since 2012 and the last time I renew my membership, which was sometime before TOTK released, they said that if you don’t pay your membership before the last day, after the last day your points are gone. Not sure if that’s what happened to the guy you are talking about. But I’m definitely gonna stop paying for their membership, plus I already used all my points in TOTK, got the game for $20 from the points I saved over the years, no better way I had but to use them then…

This policy was announced last year. Points expire a year in purchase wise now. It sucks but they announced this new move when you went to renew in 2024.

I stopped going to Gamestop a decade ago because it is easier just to order games online. As such, I heard that it is virtually void of customers nowadays. Even this video said that it's a ghost town. Is that true with all Gamestops across the nation? Being forced to preorder games at Gamestop to ensure a physical copy reminds me of the early 2000s where preorders were a must if you wanted to play games on Day-1. I remember preordering FFX at Kay Bee, Metal Gear Solid 4 at Gamestop, and GTA Vice City at Best Buy. If you didn't preorder, you have to be lucky if Gamestop had a store demo copy for sale. It sucks if Gamestop is going back to that.

I know the guy who works at my local GameStop and he said that the company is just not sending more games to sell, sometimes only the preorders come. He told me if I wanted anything to preorder it because if I didn’t the store would not likely get it. I preordered A Space for the Unbound on switch and picked it up yesterday and sure enough they only got three copies (all preorders) 😕.

On top of gamestop dropping the ball, Amazon has done it to me on my last 2 pre-orders, lies of p and lords of the fallen, both came late. Lies of p was 9 days late, lords of the fallen was 5. It's getting hard to get physical games anywhere. My only hope left is that companies like limited run, who I don't really like, continues printing physical media. I haven't touched bg3 yet because I'm waiting on the physical from Larian studios. But the worst thing is, when ps6 or switch 2 come with no disk drives or cartridge slots, this will all be a moot point.

As a current employee and store leader. This is complete BS and let me explain why. Gamestop orders its copies 2-3 weeks in advance of the release date. They order more than our current total pre orders in our stores for any walk ins. The problem surfaces because we keep pre orders open even after we order them. If you want a physical copy at gamestop your best bet is to pre order. It doesn't cost anything more than $5 up front twords your game. It's not an extra charge. You are paying 5 dollars of the total price of the game and you can pay the rest off whenever you feel like it or you can cancel for your 5 dollars back if you saw a review or something that turned you off the game.

yes nintendo is 100% behind it. i heard they’ve stoped making copies of mario odyssey and other nintendo titles that came out several years ago. don’t know how to true that is. but my guess is nintendo is making their physical copies very limited, so you have to buy it digitally. also, gamestop sucks so that makes for a bad combo lol

It’s the old GameStop again. Ryan Cohen’s promise to “delight the costumer” has disappeared. The gamers saved the company from Wall Street raiders and he forgot that. Your points don’t roll over through the year. Their sales are always just junk toys and shirts they couldn’t sell when they were new. Trade-in prices are still very low and prices of recent release used games are just $5 under the new price. There is no longer any reason to have any loyalty to GameStop. Might even be a good idea to short the stock now.

Had the same experience with "Game" a UK version of gamestop When WOW the burning crusade first dropped and was gifted from my wife a pre ordered (fully paid) Deluxe copy of the game only to get emailed after the game dropped saying my preorder was cancelled and refunded due to low stock... I had been looking forward to my Deluxe version for months disappointment is an understatement.

I always felt so bad telling people that I didn’t have a lot of copies but it’s a upper management thing they do it on purpose because they want to insensitive people to pre ordered normally they do get a few copies in a week or depending on your GameStop check back after 48 hours they only have to hold for 48 hours but when I worked at mine we would hold a copy for a week and called at least twice to try to give people a chance to pick it up

That GameStop employee informed you incorrectly. GameStop stores cannot order product for their stores ever! Corporate has a system where the warehouse makes scheduled shipments for games and collectable releases. So he cannot re-order games or products due to having no control of the shipment schedule.

I'm old school in every way (even actually old lol), and it was hard for me to take that digital plunge. Did it a little while back, and it's made my life so much easier. Have several kiddos, all have their own Switches. Don't have to worry about them losing games, as we can always just redownload. Most games nowadays have day 1 patches, and the majority ship broken anyway (talking to you third party on PS5 and Xbox), so a physical copy is basically a paper weight if the game ships broken. If and when that server goes down that updates that broken game, that cartridge and/or disc you have is completely useless (broken game). There are certainly pros and cons to both, and I'm an older guy that obviously always bought physical, but can honestly say here that I'm happy with the choice I made. To each their own.

Not sure why but it seems like gamestop only has it available online currently. I decided to check a few of my local retailers today. Target had 1 copy which ended up selling. Walmart had only 4 copies. Weirdly the display that is above game case wasn't on the case that had the 4 copies yet it was on the other switch case. My local Best Buy had it in stock as well. I'm guessing Nintendo didn't ship many to retail stores. However every online retailer is in stock. Maybe Nintendo didn't consider it a big enough release to stock retail stores. I'm wondering if Princess Peach will receive the same treatment. At least that game is receiving a preorder bonus.

I went to the mall near me because I had to go to the apple store so I went in there to kill time until my appointment & the sales associate didn't even greet me or ask if I needed help so I just walked around looking, so they finally asked if I needed help & I told them that I wanted to trade in my apple watch & the person sold me that they weren't taking in trade ins for that day & they couldn't tell me why, so I'm thinking the gamestop by me is starting to have jerks working there.

So, I hate to defend Gamestop, but the allocation for a game like that probably isn't that big. Then if its a slow store, they more than likely only got the reserves. They will get a few copies eventually, but it won't be a lot. Go to a busier store. Better yet, don't go to Gamestop at all. Its not a good company. It needs to die. Nintendo games are harder to produce then CD games. Nintendo always has allocation problems at first.

Not GameStop but Best Buy does a similar thing, at least my local Best Buy does. They no longer have new-released games on their shelf. Only the ones that pre-ordered it are guaranteed to get it. For the most part, they no longer have new games in stock

Gamestop as a company is trash. The customer service is non-existent and their policies are terrible. I bought two copies of a game by accident. Tried to return 19 days later and they wouldn't accept my return. Factory wrapped game. It was an accident. I also had been a pro member for like 15+ years but hadn't renewed recently. Gamestop is one of the worst companies ever.

I agree about the future of games being digital but I actually prefer digital for space reasons. So my question is, why when there are sales the physical copies are the only ones discounted but if you want the digital code instead those are always still full priced and never available at the same sale price ? It's almost like it's encouraged to buy all the physical copies first. At least with online sales on Walmart,Target or Amazons website.

Sort of the same thing happened to me when I went to Gamestop to pick up Kirby and the Forgotten Land for the Switch. What happened was, even though I reserved my copy of it, the a-holes over there didn't have enough copies and ended up selling my copy even though I pre-ordered it. I ended up getting my money back from Gamestop, and went to Best Buy's website and got the game from there. But that really sucks whenever they do that, because that's pretty much telling people that you HAVE to reserve the game in order for you to buy it. I honestly thought you could only buy the game if you had the money for it, but what do I know? I'm already prepared if they try the same thing with Princess Peach Showtime!, even though I pre-ordered it a couple of weeks ago.

Your GameStop experience was bad? Well I think your video originally said that "GameStop sucks balls", so I went into the local GameStop and said "Hey, I hear I can get my balls sucked here..." No just kidding I am from Australia, I don't think we have GameStop. But it's sad to hear you couldn't get a physical copy. I understand there's a similar problem with movies/DVDs/Blu-ray. If you get a physical copy you get whatever edition and commentary etc. If you rely on streaming you may only be able to get the director's cut, or the revised version (think Star Wars). Or maybe a movie won't be available for (legal) downloading or streaming due to whatever legal shambles have occurred. Unless you have a physical VHS/Beta/DVD/Blue-Ray of the film you will be subject to whatever changes or revisionism others feel they want to impose.

I stopped going to Gamestop over a decade ago, because of the attempt to bully you into pre-ordering. I just started going to Walmart instead. Sucks that Walmart is now not ordering that many copies of games for in store, but you can still go to their website and order it and have it delivered to you. I think it was the release of Batman Arkham Asylum when I went to get a copy and they didn't have it and they lectured me about pre-ordering. So I told them I was just going to Walmart and they were like, oh it's sold out everywhere, you really should have pre-ordered, you won't find it at Walmart either. I went to Walmart and they had plenty of copies. Haven't been to Gamestop since. lol

I called all 6 walmarts within driving distance, 2 gamestops and 2 targets and 1 local small yown reseller. Not one had the game in. All were sold out as preorders. I ordered my game on amazon and itll be here monday. Is it immediate? No. Is it just a game stop deal? No. I mean if your worst experience at game stop was not getting a game that you didnt pre order and just assumed would be there, i would guess your game stop experiences have been pretty low key.
