Thing is that regular batteries are not meant to be discharged and recharge on a regular basis, but deep cycle ones are designed that way, so on the good side your starting batteries will a longer working life, and the deep cycle are meant to give you a longer use while the truck is not running to keep accessories working, like a cab heater. In my truck i have a set of deep cycles just to keep the heater and the smart air running. I have a full ten hours of running time on aux, having the two sets separate insures me that no matter what, the truck will always fire up after a prolonged parked time. That way i save on idling, and keep the dpf cleaner.

Motive eld is what ai use. I believe they are the most popular company. DOT is easy to get through the state website and MC number will take about 30-45 days to get after you apply. Unfortunately you have to get commercial insurance prior to obtaining an MC number/authotity. They will not give it to you without it. So pretty much you’ll pay for a month of insurance and not even start working yet. It sucks but we all go through that.

I am super excited to get out on the road and start learning and earning. I want to do it right so taking the time now to ensure I am prepared as possible. sleeping set up looks good. but doesn't need to look presentable to anybody. you're the only one who needs to be concerned with it. therefore, functionality over of looks. for instance, i'd rather build a frame over the seats that can just be instantly removed to have full functionality of the backseat without removing frames and reinstalling seats. also gives more immediate access to the under floor storage. I agree, you're set up looks great and it works for you. but in my opinion, which i know doesn't mean anything here, presentability would be very low on my list of priorities for the backseat sleeping accommodations. truck looks awesome though. good luck and stay safe out there. additionally, team driving or solo, your truck as is doesn't qualify as a sleeper. you need to log off duty. as soon as you log sleeper birth in it's current configuration, you'll be in violation. to meet DOT standards, you'd have to remove those door panels like you said and also remove your front passenger seat to give you unimpeded access to the "cab".
@Mr.AlexKogan5 ай бұрын
Hey, thank you. As far as I am aware the only time you need to replace door panels and install a longer mattress is only in a team driving situation. If you are solo there is no requirement by dot to have a longer mattress because no one is sleeping while driving. If I’m sleeping while parked, why would dot care what size mattress I have? They don’t. Your idea with building a frame over back seat without removing the back seat wouldn’t work because you’d have no access to under seat storage compartment as the seat bottoms need to be raised to access it. I’m picky and am a perfectionist when it comes to vehicles so to me it’s important to be presentable. It makes me feel better and I have never heard of dot requiring you to remove your front passenger seat to be legal. Where are you coming up with this false information?
@Bryan-li8qi5 ай бұрын
@@Mr.AlexKogan It's not false information lmao. FMCSA requires a sleeper "built" after 1975 to be at least 75"x24"x24". The ram 3500 is 65.5" from door panel to door panel. Being the reason people remove them and replace with the recessed door panel (which unfortunately disables the use of the windows) to gain the needed clearance. Additionally 49 CFR 393.76 Paragraph A, Section 3 regarding cab access states "Access must be constructed so that an occupant's ready entrance to the cab and exit from is not unduly hindered (A.K.A. seats and a center console that requires you to awkwardly climb over). Exiting the vehicle via the back door to re-enter the drivers seat does not qualify for cab access. Additionally paragraph C section 1 states "there must be a direct and ready means of exit from a sleeper berth into the driver's seat or compartment. If the sleeper berth was installed on or after January 1, 1963, the exit must be a doorway or opening at least 18 inches high and 36 inches wide". This 36" is accomplished by removing the passenger seat, as you can gain the 36 inches between the right side of the drivers seat and passenger door panel with more than 18 inches of clearance above the center console....Nobody does this, which is exactly why in your ELD if you log sleeper birth and don't meet those provisions, DOT can give you an OOS. People log "Off Duty" to circumvent it. I gave you the regulation numbers, feel free to check for yourself. There's a ton more literature in the forums such as truckingtruth.com and truckersreport.com well as videos on youtube talking about this in detail. It couldn't be further from "false information". you also mentioned my frame preference as hindering access to under seat storage. That's why I specifically mentioned in the comment a frame that can be easily removed. I.E. a wooden frame not bolted that can be removed in less that 30 seconds to gain instant access to seat or storage if needed. all a matter of preference in that department, no right or wrong way over the other. Like I said, beautiful truck, great set up and drive safe.
