I wasn't going to say anything at first but it becomes apparent that you probably won't do anything about this unless someone says something. Me and my BF noticed it you don't reply to comments. We get that you are on the money side of KZbin (with the 4-5 ads, etc) however being true to your commentators makes subscribers. subscribers makes watch time hours. watch time hours makes money. Another huge problem is that your first boat isn't done nor livable and instead you decide to buy more boats. I get that if it's your prerogative to hold out the completion of your boat for the next 15 years because of the name of your channel but that's what we came here for. As there's not many KZbinrs who have motor yachts we would have liked to seen longer working vlogs and you sticking to one boat and daily life on it with you and your wife. That's also our goal. For these reasons we lose interest in your channel and unsubscribing we wish you well on your endeavors. Thanks for the first few videos.

The fin by your bow thruster is the old keel, so in effect you are going to be sailing your boat backwards, as to how it was designed. I'd trim the fin down to a minimum and add a keel at the stern. Otherwise your boat will be difficult to handle and feel very twitchy.
@Jurflip22 жыл бұрын
He needs some keel in front to steer effectively. A flat-bottomed boat like this, with no keel at the front, simply tends to go sideways when attemptiong to steer around a corner. I think he should construct some kind of keel over the bow thruster tunnel. It help with steering and protect the bow thruster when grounding.

Even with both engins wide open he will be way underpowered. Thats about 10% of the power he needs. He simply doesn't have enough propeller or power for that size vessel. I have owned vessel half that size that needed more power and prop. I dont think he will get 2 knots with both motors running wide open. He would be better to get a good used pair of Turbo diesel bus engins and turn one reverse through gearing. You need them to turn into each other or vessel will be impossible to control. I hate to see this young man waste his money and destroy 2 engine he could sell for better engines.

@@w124mercedes7 don’t worry about the speed. Worry about the stopping distance!! Bet there will be plenty enough power to get this rig upwards of 4-6knots. But he needs to think ahead when stopping. I have a loading barge 8x3,5m with 9,9hp. At full throttle I get 4 knots. And it’s almost square in the front! If a was him, I would make the steering separate. That way he can use the outside engine as a “truster” when docking.

@Jurflip22 жыл бұрын
You should probably weld some kind of guard around the bow thruster tunnel you have fitted. If you do ground the boat now, the first thing to hit is the tunnel. One advantage of a flat-bottomed vessel, like your barge, is that you can "take the ground", i.e. you can let the boat lie on the beach when the tide retracts. With the outboard motors, you have no concerns with props or rudders being protected, but the bow thruster tunnel is an issue.

sometimes you just need to remove the top fairing of the engines to do basic maintenance, change spark plugs for example... and a level platform will come in very handy. the way you build it, with a sloping angle and nowhere to rest your feet and toolbox makes maintenance more difficult

@dnomyarnostaw2 жыл бұрын
For long term, those square tube sections need to either 1) Be tested for water tightedness, OR 2) Have some serious weep holes to let water out easily. If you choose to have weepholes, flood the interior to the sections with a liquid anti-rust treatment like FishOil. Rusting out from the inside is a trap that could result in a sudden failure.

That is a low power welder. For the thickness of the material you are welding, you should just turn the wirefeed up all the way, and match it's burn rate with the current. Looking at these welds and welds you've done previously, the current is too low. The wire is feeding too fast and the material is not being penetrated as much as it should. I would grind these welds down and crank up the current and get some penetration into the parts you are welding together.

Scrolled through to find other welding advice - surprisingly little. First welds were dirty - poor prep. It pays to have a stainless or brass bristled brush to hand to work over the welds while they cool. Keep agitating the area during torch breaks to keep contamination to a minimum. Better to spend a bit longer preparing the whole area back to as clean bare steel as possible before you strike the first arc.

That bow thruster encapsulation is also gonna create alot of drag. Consider making it also more 'hydradynamic'. The transom design is now better. I must say I admire your work. Also, you made the right choice when deciding on two outboard motors. As a result of your choice you will have quite a bit better manoeuvrability. Most likely you will not even need the bow thruster. It is nice to have, but in calm conditions you will be able to drive that boat of yours sideways. You could possibly have made it even easier to manoeuvre by looking in to azimuth stern drives. Or by making a contraption that can turn 200 degrees or even 360 degrees. So, even if some of your viewers have commented that you ought to have chosen a single engine I would say that you did the right thing. Manoeuvrability is worth more than speed 8 times out of 10, or that is my opinion. I am a Master Mariner by trade, but I would have said the same thing even if I only had a loose opinion on the subject. I really enjoy your videos, I had a live aboard myself a few years ago, and I find your approach and your enthusiasm for your project very inspiring.

Just for the future, making many small welds on and off makes really pretty looking welds, but with metal that thick, you arent getting the metal hot enough to get good penetration. Holding the trigger down and moving from one little circle right into the next will get the base metal hotter and make the weld stronger. These ones will work fine, since you overengineered them, but keep that in mind.
