Wow, OP #1's ex has to be a sociopath. The way that he was able to play "perfect husband" with her for over a decade while juggling this insane other life, the way he just switched the minute she called him out and was instantly ice cold, even the way he 'justified' his actions. "I cheated because I could. I decided which woman to marry and which one to string along by sizing them up like cattle. I decided to have a second child with my side piece because I can." I really hope OP quickly comes to realize that she was victimized by a master manipulator. This guy could have convinced anyone of anything, she's not stupid for falling for his lies.

I'm always a bit wary of classifying these guys as sociopaths or psychopaths (though admittedly, my dad was a textbook malignant narcissist who ticked pretty much every box on that). The thing is that until very recently, even in the West, guys have had it pretty much all their way, for a long, long time. Their expectations of what they deserve and are entitled to have been skewed far outside of what is fair and normal from an objective perspective. There are still many parts of the world (some of them in the U.S.) where the guy can pretty much have as many sidepieces as he can afford and all the women are supposed to just suck it up and compete for the crumbs. Sociopaths and psychopaths are outside the normal for society and know it. These guys aren't, or at least they weren't a generation ago.

My partner's grandfather had a 2nd family that was a (poorly kept) secret. When his wife died, all the neighbors came by and talked about how perfect their relationship was, how they were high school sweethearts etc. Now in death, both families are making his wife the scapegoat for not wanting anything to do with the AP or their kids, since it's a "tragedy" the kids couldn't meet until adulthood. @@akl2k7 I'm honestly not sure how much she knew or what all the details are. I think she left him (for cheating?) at one point and then took him back? So family 1 was abandoned first and then family 2 was abandoned for family 1? It's really weird because there's this wall of vagueness around the whole thing. My partner doesn't even feel comfortable asking his mom for the whole story. What I do know from being in charge of photos from the funeral is that there's a 10 year gap where there's no family pictures, and on the other side, the wife's formerly confident smile isn't the same. I wish she were still here so I could get her side of things. At least the adult kids and grandkids are being friendly with one another. Like I said, a big ol mess.

Last story: OP said she's afraid and puts her key between her fingers when walking alone now. DO NOT do that, you are far more likely to injure yourself than your opponent because when you actually hit something, the keys are going to fold over. If you hit something hard, you can potentially smash, cut, or even break your fingers. If you are going to use your key for self defense you should hold it more like a knife than putting it between your knuckles.
@gmun2248

It's a common piece of self defense advice for women/ in women's magazines etc. The general idea is to go for the eyes with the key, add a heel of the hand to the nose if also necessary & buy yourself time to run. It's not a prep for getting in a fistfight.

The mugging story where the boyfriend ran away is similar to something that happened to me. My husband and I were walking down a street when 3 very large dogs came out of another connecting street and charged at us. My husband hauled ass and left me there to defend myself luckily I was very pissed off and I started screaming at the dogs and they hauled ass away from me. A lot of people nearby saw what had happened and told my husband that he was such a coward to save himself and leave me behind to be attacked.

Should you find you are being cheated on: Take screenshots of evidence, send to yourself, delete from their history. Start packing up, if you can move back with parents, let them know what is up. Get all your ducks in a row, finances and a lawyer. Get the papers ready. Pick a day leave the papers and move out when he is gone. Then confront the person they are having an affair with. If they are volatile, block them. Get a restraining order even a temporary one if you fear they will get violent.
