It’s so nice to hear a man’s opinion on the male characters! Austen had six brothers and her father had a boarding school for boys in their house so she had plenty of opportunities for observation. You make a wonderful couple ❤

Great discussion and some interesting points. Thanks. S & S is my 2nd favourite Austen after P & P.

Thank you both for this discussion. I've been binge-ing on Jane Austen all month, and have no one to talk about it in my circle.

I loved Sense and Sensibility. I really enjoyed this discussion and can see your husbands point on Elinor. I do love Elinor but can see his views.

If your husband had worn a shirt, he would have looked like he'd stepped out of an Austen Novel. You look like a lovely Austen heroine. It's a surprise to me, still when I read popular OLD novel just HOW modern they can feel and read. But as one of my friends is ALWAYS saying, 'why do you think they are still in print? ' Oh YES, they ARE GOOD. THANK you for the video.

"R-vibes." I lol'd but also, that's very insightful. I so agree that one of Jane Austen's gifts is that her side characters are as you point out, fully developed & realized. None are caricatures or cartoonish. It's also good to be reminded that marriage didn't mean the same thing back then, as it does today. Especially for the upper classes--good luck on that marrying for "love" thing! Great to hear your unique perspectives--also, you two are ADORABLE together. Did I say that last year? I can't remember. But it's true. 🙂

I loved this! I want to see the two of you talk about the other novels as well once Andy has read them!

Thanks Meghan! That's the plan. I'm hoping to have Andy read a Jane Austen book each year with me, and discuss them together like this. I think Emma might be next, but we'll see.
