My Illustrations From 2018 | Year in Review

In this video I'll be showing you as many paintings from 2018 as possible. As a freelance illustrator, I find I have good, prosperous years...and some not so prosperous years! 2018 was one of the latter, but we roll with the punches and I'm excited to see what this new year has in store for me.
I hope you enjoy having a look at some of the original watercolour paintings and hearing about some of the client projects I worked on!

Absolutely mind blown by the part where you transposed compositions techniques of food photography into your artwork but cutting out elements. That's just brilliant and so in tune with the industry you are targeting as a foodie/plant base illustrator. GENIUS MOVE RIGHT HERE!

Your work is simply amazing Holly.! Good luck to you both this year. I love the Tove piece, because it has a moomintroll in it. I wish the Beatrix Potter poster had one of her little animals in it to, it's what is missing in that one for me. (Personal taste I know) but it's the heartbeat in the piece to me that matters. Your wonderful animal portraits are so well executed. Well done.

Congrats on your wedding! I'm an independent art instructor and also got married last year on September 15th. My work definitely suffered because of the wedding and honeymoon, but we had such a good time, it was worth it. I love your cut outs of the food, very cute idea. :-)

Holly, I'm so happy to see you back on KZbin! Your channel is definitely one of my favorites and I was so eager to watch this traditional video of your year in review! Your illustrations are beautiful, it's such good work! I wish you a very very very lucrative 2019 year!! ;) . For me, 2019 is my second year of freelancing as an illustrator and art teacher. In 2018, I spent a lot of time teaching, and I only illustrated self initiated projets and personal commissions because of serious eyes problems. But now my eyes are in good health and I hope I will have some commercial illustration contracts! Sometimes I feel discouraged and I doubt that I will ever make a living from this, but well, I'm a very persevering person so I continue! And seeing the real life of an illustrator like you, with the ups and downs, is very motivating! Wish you a happy new Year Holly!

I was thinking maybe because it says "Plant" based illustrator can confuse the client. Maybe they think you only illustrate plants. I love your post cards though.

I know it has been a tuff year but hang in there. I love your art very nature based. Keep doing what you’re doing. Maybe do videos painting your own projects more often. I like when you paint vegetables and plants. I like when you paint birds and wildlife. I also like your painting of baked goods and live chickens. Portraits are also very nice. I like when you did board games maybe paint your own cards. Just a few ideas.

hi! i see you have the originals of your freelance work; do clients ever ask if they get to keep the original/if its included in the contract? if so what do you usually tell them? i'm beginning to take on commissions and was approached with this question and wasn't sure what the "standard" is with taking on client work (this specific one was an illustration for an album cover)

ROLYAT SAB hello! I think I’ve only sold original artwork to the commissioning client maybe once or twice?! Not very common for me. Always make sure to charge for ownership of the original artwork and that you have a contract that outlines the usage of the artwork.
