Travel Documentary, India 2024. 🇮🇳 Sarees - that is INDIAN NATIONAL PRIDE! And Bollywood has popularized it! We invite you to delve with us into the world of Indian saree fashion, handloom weaving, and the vibrant life in southern India's state of Kerala! A real cultural adventure where I get to wear my first saree and bindis!
Join us as we travel to Kuthampully, a beautiful village in Kerala, India, known for its traditional handloom weaving. Step with us into the private quarters of master weavers, learn about the intricate process of handloom weaving, an age-old Indian tradition that is vital to India's economy - the handloom industry provides employment to millions of artisans, especially in rural areas.
Enter the vibrant world of Indian fashion with us as we make a spontaneous stop at a local saree shop to get a firsthand experience of traditional Indian clothing.
The shop team hatches a secret plan to dress me/drape me in a 6-meter long saree. I'm totally unprepared, but excited to experience this cultural tradition! Watch my transformation into an Indian girl, from choosing the blouse to mastering the 6-meter saree drape. We explore the different types of sarees such as set mundu and set saree, and learn about their cultural significance and more (dhotis, bindis etc).
Finally, we explore a bit of Thrissur, a lively city where we see vibrant markets and enjoy delicious local Indian food (including beef - who would expect that in India?).
Did you know? Sarees are one of the oldest forms of clothes, dating back thousands of years. They can be from 5 to 9 meters long and can be draped in over 100 different styles styles. Different regions in India have unique ways of draping a sari (Nivi style, Bengali, Gujarati, Maharashtrian etc).
Thank you so much for joining us on this cultural adventure.
Please share your thoughts! What do you think of the way Indians dress? We'd love to hear from you!
Thank you for watching & commenting!
With love and gratitude,
Nicole & Roberto

👩🏼🧔🏻 WHO ARE WE?
Hi, we're Nicole from Austria/Germany and Roberto from Switzerland/Italy! We believe that traveling is more than just sightseeing! When we travel, we look for spontaneous and AUTHENTIC ENCOUNTERS with THE LOCAL LIFE (and local people of all backgrounds) in other cultures, the country (nature, villages, cities) and the food. Our travels are about uncovering the REAL & UNSCRIPTED LIFE in each destination, with all its sunny & shady sides! We try to find out what really makes each country unique, beyond the postcard-perfect images.
Thank you for being part of this journey! It means everything to us.
