I grew up in the alps, skiing since I was 4 years old. It never came to me that the alps are a very challenging area until I went to Whistler a few years ago. Don´t get me wrong, it was a really cool holiday and a great and satisfying skiing event. But it could not live up to steepness, harshness and difficulty of the alps, not at any moment. If you have ever been to the Arlberg, Alpe d´Huez or Zermatt, you know what I mean. The alps are king, Summer and Winter, if you know what you are doing.

Agree. Whistler have amazing snow conditions though, and I have had the best powder experience there. But compared to the alps, the mountains are pretty tame and the apres ski is so so.

Same here. Born and raised on skis, very close to the Alps. Currently living in Canada, but flying back to Les3Alpes early March. That is an incomparable experience for half the price than anything here. Stubaier gletscher still has a special place in my heart. Have been there like 10 times as a kid. Would love to go back.

My husband also learnt skiing when he was already in his twenties. Except for that one time when he didn't get the corner and went down the snowboard run with half-pipe and multiple jumps, he did pretty well. I will never forget when I looked behind me and he wasn't there anymore, then suddenly he appeared mid-air to the left of me. It was epic.

Laura has a distinct German accent speaking English, the way she pronounces vibes (“wibes”) is the best. It’s funny how Speedy has fluent flawless English with perfect pronunciation, Cody is fluent in the Swabian dialect & their child Nalf speaks Hoch Deutsch with a strong American accent.

Her English shows signs of at least one year in the US. While she audibly is not a native speaker, she speaks great - nothing to worry about or even be ashamed of. Nuff said until Nalf has lost his accent in German 😀
@lexipip85632 жыл бұрын
@@schlollepop You know immediately Laura’s German when she speaks. Her accent is very noticeable but English is very good just a couple of small slight errors, such as with prepositions. With Speedy (& also with Feli the former German Girl in America) it’s very hard to tell where they are from even when listening carefully. In being told they are not native English speakers most would guess that Speedy and Feli were Danish or Swedish.

@@AndreasDelleske haha, not a snowboarder but as a skier I have some sympathy with them getting on & off chairlifts & dealing with T-Bars, struggling with only one foot strapped to the board. They do have more comfortable boots but sitting en masse in big groups on the snow right at the top of the runs/slopes to do up their bindings after getting off the chairlifts is annoying to skiers. If you really want to avoid snowboarders all together then places like Deer Valley in Utah & a couple of other mountains in the US have a complete ban on all snowboarding. Most snowboarders are cool & chilled out despite their garish jackets & pants & I like watching them “fly” in the terrain park. ⛷🎿🏂

I know it's hard with that fresh soft snow on the tracks and the bad visibility, but the better you cope with these conditions, the easier it's going to be on a sunny day with well groomed slopes. Keep doing those trips and you are going to be a professional too very soon!

As an American, lived in Switzerland for 5 years and was almost as bad a skier as this guy. Had a few friends that were unbelievably great skiers. All of us went one weekend to Gstaad and one of the better skiers in the group and his wife said “hey, come ski with us today”. I said hey, I’m not that good. They say ‘no problem, just keep up”. Yes, famous last words, cuz I went around all morning skiing WAY over my head.;..too fast, too reckless and these guys were just flying down the mountain. Suddenly, my skis crisscrossed and I barely avoided a complete head plant, but ended up breaking my scapula in the process. Went to an ortho some days later and they said lets just see if it heals on its own. Never did, and I spent about a week in a very lovely 5 star like hospital in Zurich and now have a souvenir for life from my Swiss days with a titianium plate and screws in my left shoulder!

Aaaargh! Those "T bar" ski lifts! I remember when I was learning to ski near Innsbruck, Austria. I had a pair of ski gloves that you snapped closed around the wrists. Well, after we made it through a long line, my sister and I had to share the same T-bar. She decided to sit on it while I decided to hold it in front of me. It did not go well. Next thing I knew, my sister wasn't there anymore, I wasn't on my skis either but the T-bar had somehow hooked itself underneath the snap on my left ski glove. Thanks to the snap, the glove would not come off. The T-bar dragged me up the slope on my left side with my skis flailing in the snow behind me. Everyone in the line was screaming, "LET GO!!! LET GO!!!" "I'm trying!" I feebly yammered. Finally, the glove came off and my torment was at an end. For an eight year old, it was a humiliating experience. Thanks for dredging up that trauma that I had banished to the furthest reaches of my memory, Nick! 😑

I hope we see a future wedding. I would love to see the beautiful children you two would have.

These were actually good conditions. Sometimes at the end of the day there is only the pure ice left on exactly this slope. :)

Hey Nalf, i know you were just joking but good that you wore a helmet. I know it seems unlikely but people die during skiing all the time even in tourist areas where it is "safe". Father of a friend of mine went skiing during the Christmas holidays with his family and he never came back. It was absolutely devastating. So yeah, wear a helmet guys.
